2000 Western Conference Finals Game 3, May 26, 2000 | Following an embarrassing letdown in game 2 where they lost by 29 points to the Blazers on their home court, the Lakers came into Portland knowing they desperately needed to win at least one of the two games. Kobe came out on fire with 14 points on 6-7 shooting in the opening quarter. Shaq, on the other hand, was extremely quiet, ending the first quarter with just a single point at the free throw line. As the game went on, Kobe cooled off a bit as Shaq took it upon himself to score the ball. The teams went back and forth in a close 4th quarter until Ron Harper made the go-ahead baseline jumper to put the Lakers up 2. On the other end, Kobe blocked Arvydas Sabonis' game tying shot attempt to win the Lakers the game and go up 2-1 in the series.

Shaq who got robbed finished second in the MVP award he was by far the anchor offensively/defensively to this 1999-2000 Lakers team. Kobe was good but Shaq was a million times better this season.

Shaq said it best when you need it,I’ll hit them free throws but this notion that Shaq carried Kobe,without Kobe they would’ve got blown out

1999-2000 Shaq absolutely did carry the Lakers Kobe didn’t become a legit superstar till the following season. Shaq got robbed from being the first unanimous MVP and he also got robbed from being the DPOY as he finished 2nd in the voting behind Zo. 30/14/4/3 and a monster defensively it was the greatest season of all time in a legit era of basketball. His numbers only went up in the playoffs. Kobe was absolutely awful in the finals, he honestly should’ve been benched, he was so bad 12 for 47 shooting in both game 5/6. Shaq had to avg almost 40/20 to single handily win it all in the greatest NBA Finals performance of all time. If Kobe wasn’t there give Shaq TMac or Iverson and they win in a better fashion. KoBrick hurt the team almost as much as he helped. This season was all about the Diesel and don’t you ever forget it!

@@jaymule7342 to matter if Kobe wasnt shooting good he still contributed by playing defense n rebounding so stop hating plus shaq only played 1 legit center in the finals n you see how that went 4-0 plus he played a old David Robinson when kobe developed so shaq only faced to big legit centers

Chicago Cubs 2016 WS Champs I don't think he actual dribbled, can't see the ball bouncing otherwise I'd say he probably didn't put the ball on the floor at all.

60's and 70's was better era than you think. Wilt was from the 60's and Kareem from the 70's and NO WAY would Shaq have dominated those 2 if all were at there peak.

Shaq was better during these 3peat but kobe was no Scottie to Shaqs Jordan. Definitely option 1a n 1b. What a great duo they were!

@@jaymule7342 Then why was the ball in Kobe's hands in almost every close late game situation they had in the playoffs that year? I agree Shaq was CLEARLY the #1 option on the team in 00, but Kobe was clearly a phenomenal #2 who wasn't even close to HIS peak, and clearly a #1 in last minute, closing situations.
