SPECIAL THANKS TO ICESCO415, for letting me be a part of his huge project here!
(icesco415's version which has 30 secs of more additional highlights • Tracy McGrady VS Kobe ... )
Kobe Bryant recently said how bad he beat McGrady back when they were 20 years old and in Germany to shoot some sneakers commercial. T-Mac had nothing to do with it, saying over twitter that he never been to Germany with Kobe or they played 1on1. Here how it goes:
Chris Palmer(ESPN):
"I always wanted to see you play Tracy McGrady."
Kobe:
"I played T-Mac. I cooked him. Roasted him. Wasn't even close. Ask him, he'll tell you. When I was about 20, we were in Germany doing some promotional stuff for that other sneaker company and we played basketball every day. We were in the gym all the time. We played three games of one-on-one to 11. I won all three games. One game I won 11-2. After the third game he said he had back spasms and couldn't play anymore."
T-Mac (over twitter):
"LOL Hell no! That's far from the truth. No one in the NBA is playing 1 on 1. Me and KB never went to Germany together either.."
(Source to that interview: espn.go.com/blo...)
As we can not decide who is speaking the truth here, here is the videotape both going at it 1 on 1 through their Nba careers. Tapes doesn't lie!
So who wins in your opinion?

Makes me sick what happened to Tmacs body. I've never seen kobe play anyone harder than mcgrady, because it's obvious he respected his game.

@@LegitPlays777 also the teama back then didnt take care of their players medically like they do now. Im certain if tmac pkayed today, his back and knee issues wouldve been heavily focused on, rather then letting him go out and play with knee pain from 2003 to 2006 when he blew out his knee at age 26 and was never the same

@@cognitivedisability9864 At 26 he was still a beast in 2005 to 2006 at age 26. In 09 season when he suffered that major injury. He was 28 to 29 years old which is still young and prime & peak age but he was solidified as a HOF at that point but yes his accolades and resume could have definitely became larger if he didn't get injured that season with Ron Artest added to the team. 09 was Rockets chance for sure. So great to see the players get after each other. They took it personal, they played physical they were willing to die on the court for their teams. You don't see that level of competition anymore. @SuperWubDub
@SuperWubDub 8 лет назад
+diaz Diaz Kobe vs TMac was still more competitive then all of those
@RRRRRRRRR33
@RRRRRRRRR33 8 лет назад
+diaz Diaz Talent wise and also position wise, the only fair example you give was Shaq vs Hakeem. Bird is far ahead of Wilkins, his level of talent was something unbelievable, Dominique is a lesser player in comparison. Also, Iverson and Vince had a little rivalry, ok, but overall Iverson was the most talented player by far. Wade had one MVP stoled by LeBron, but they don't have signature games playing against each other, neither their positions are the same. So, talent wise and position wise, Tracy vs Kobe is one of the most equally grounded and evenly matchups in the history of the game. Even if Shaq ended up achieving a great level of success, in his time against Olajuwon he couldn't be compared with the Dream. The guy was a MONSTER, maybe the most skilled player in history considering the size (and also the greatest Center of alltims imo). Shaq was murdered by Hakeem in the finals, in the regular season Hakeem had the advantage as well. You don't see this level of disparity between Tracy and Kobe.
@XRW239
@XRW239 10 лет назад
Kobe had no solution for T-mac in his early career. T-mac was clearly on a higher talent level. However, Kobe's game evolved so much over the years while T-mac's bag of tricks (which was quite comprehensive from the start) remained relatively stagnant. Even without T mac's back injury the gap between those two players would be closing up fast. It would've been interesting to see how those two players match up in their late 20s~early 30s had T-mac remained 100% healthy. Nevertheless, T mac's games in his Orlando years were a total joy to watch.

.. won finals MVP three times in a row. However, everyone that knows basketball knows just how amazingly important Kobe was to those 3 titles. Kobe had playoff series against elite teams like the Spurs or the Kings where he averaged like 32, 7 & 7, he had monster back to back games (on the road) of 45 & 10 and 48 & 16. He was the closer of the team, he was their best perimeter defender. He was a scorer and a facilitator. He did A LOT, and Shaq doesn't win without him. Tmac was an amazing ..

So stop making a shit son. T-Mac is very good and to be honest LBJ is beast, athletic monster and he dominate with his athleticism against oponent. but athletisim have one bad feaure - in late 30's lbj wasn't able to dominate using ahtleticism as main weapon. So that's way kobe in his 30+ still could made his perfomance in playoffs against boston big 3. Kobe mainly uses oponent mistakes and then his skills to score. P.S. I'm not lbj or kobe hater I respect them because they get all whay they have by themselfs - through hardworking. ***** Like MVPs really matter anymore. Kobe should have at least 4, no discussion whatsoever. He got robbed by Nash and Nowitzki. I mean Steve Nash won back to back MVPs at a time when Kobe was so far ahead of anyone and taking essentially a d league roster team to the playoffs in the West and actually competing. LeBron had the benefit of playing in one of the worst conferences EVER and he still had to run away to team up with 2 all stars to make sure he gets a ring. Regardless of how talented LeBron os. he's a coward

I agree, just look at that defense they were giving each other in the early 00's. You don't see players going at each other like that today. If Tmac stayed completely healthy in the east with a great team around him. Him and Kobe would be seen as Bird and Magic.

I don't really like to count rings to measure a player's greatness. You're right that Kobe was the closer because he could hit FTs and also because he was younger. I think that Kobe benefited the most out of he and Shaq's relationship because Shaq was already in his prime when they won championships. While Shaq may have 1 less ring than Kobe, you also have to remember that he has 1 more Finals MVP. Mcgrady's squad was always the underdog except the 2007 team.

gerizzyYMcrew tracy dogged durant when t-mac was already out of prime. and this is when durant was averaging a high scoring season.lol. imagine prime tmac.lol. dont forget durant is not a isolation player like t-mac. t-mac playss iso 90% of the time. so you think about that. durant who rarely plays the iso vs someone who is a more versatile scorer on the iso.lol. not saying durant isn't good on iso. but i would rather choose someone who lived his game on iso for 15 years than someone who mostly runs his game on plays

Having watched this video and the lbj vs durant highlights from the game a few days ago, there`s so much more to it with Kobe vs Tmac. With this one, there`s so much more maneuvering and playing against hard defence. As for Lebron vs Durant, it`s was more walking the ball up the court, banging a few bodies, sloppy plays and shooting the ball. The 2000s will be missed. On the now

Anybody could win? We just a player in lbj with a loaded heat team in his prime win 2/4 finals so how can yu say kidd would've won 5 or more?? Tmac had injuries but also failed to evolve his game that's work ethic. Iverson the same thing. Carter as well.

Obsidian Green wtf. You sure you watch basketball?? Dwade was playing great the first two years and allstar level these last two. Bosh is a stretch 4 but in todays nba could play at the 5 in some line ups which create huge miss match problems. Oh and yea dey didn't rebound or block shots but they had great perimeter defenders wade and lbj were like a scottie and mj for this generation. Ray allen mike miller Shane battier Norris Cole were playing good in there rolls coach is underrated because they were lost that first season and he kept talking defense which is what wins

Back in the early 2000's Tmac WAS better than Kobe and so WAS Allen Iverson. However, 03-04 season was a turning point and I feel like the improvement of Kobe Bryant is what ultimately puts him in the top 10 all time discussions. He went from already a league superstar to being the best player in the league for a solid 7 years til about 2011. People can say Tracy could have done this and could have done that but at the end of the day, he plateaued. He didn't dedicate himself to training similar to Allen Iverson and that's what separated Kobe from those two. Iverson and McGrady were more naturally gifted but were out worked by the industriousness of Kobe Bryant. People can argue injuries played a part but at the end of the day, Kobe became better and lasted in the league longer because he took care of his body and worked harder.
