is this board powerful enough to run a ZFS? Is it possible to upgrade the RAM?

Yes! I'm running a ZFS array and it's working great. My array is 12TB usable. To my knowledge, it is not possible to upgrade the RAM.

Has the battery backup had to kick in for you yet? Curious if it can handle powering all those drives and how long it can stay on.

Not yet. I have very stable power here. But I might just pull the plug one day and see what happens.

Is the raid a software raid or hardware? Does it use ZFS? How does it compare to say truenas?

It is a software raid using ZFS. I haven’t used TrueNAS in a while so I can’t say. But with OMV the basics are there.

What additional packages have you added to armbian or open media vault, if any? Would it be possible to add plex, I’m guessing that would be on the base OS and not through OMV. Also, how is the speed/performance in general?

Mine should be in in a week or so, but I can tell you Plex would be very slow on this for transcoding video. Audio would probably be fine, though.

I have added OMV mostly. I run Plex on a different server.

Can I buy this from you? They’re sold out :( Also, can I use the board by itself? I don’t care about NAS or HDDs. I want to build my own router and need an ARM board with 2x gigabit Ethernet.

Nope. Sorry. Happy user here :). You could try to reach out to kobol. Using it as a router is an interesting use case for sure. I'm currently using a apu board from pcengines for my routing needs at home.
