Kodiak Island may be the best place in the world to hunt ducks. Come along as we take you on our bucket list journey to the waterfowling mecca in Alaska.
In December 2022, Bret and Dan Amundson made a bucket-list trip with Mark Smith from the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. The goal was to hunt trophy sea ducks like harlequins, long tails and Barrow's goldeneyes, but we hoped to find scoters too. But that wasn't all.
We wanted to learn about sea ducks. Why isn't there more research done to learn about their migration patterns, nesting success rates and more? We'll track down a biologist while we're there.
We're not using a guide service, instead we're hunting with a couple of brothers who grew up on Kodiak Island and love to live off the land.
This isn't just a duck hunt. It's a Kodiak Island experience. Come along for the ride.
