➠ HOW DOES KOH PHANGAN SCORE FOR WORKING REMOTELY?
Koh Phangan is transforming from being most known for its monthly full moon party - to a popular digital nomad hub. A recent report named it the world’s top spot for a “workcation”.

➠ Location - Getting There - travel to Koh Phangan
All routes to Koh Phangan go through Koh Samui, Suratthani, or Koh Tao.
When planning a trip, important considerations:
The Suratthani pier is about one hour from the Suratthani airport and town center.
When seas are rough avoid speedboats; sea sickness is almost guaranteed.
The ferry from Suratthani is comfortable and takes about 2.5 hours.
Maybe easiest to travel by ferry from Suratthani with your car or scooter.
Some scooter rentals on Koh Phangan are unsafe or poorly maintained.
Scooters are dangerous on Koh Phangan due to sandy, slippery roads.
Flying to/from Phuket takes as long as driving/ferry in total travel time.

➠ Why does T.B.O not score Koh Phangan higher as a remote work destination?
On July 3, 2022 Koh Pangan was ranked the No 1 destination for people seeking a workcation (work + vacation) in a recent survey by William Russell - a website that offers health insurance, life insurance, and income protection plans for people living and working abroad. The website states Koh Phangan is the best location for working remotely.
The Borderless Office scores Koh Phangan 7 as a destination for working remotely - with a score of 10 being the highest.
While Koh Phangan could be ideal for those on a $500 monthly budget, it lacks modern amenities desired for some online businesses to thrive - dependable electricity, quality healthcare, and ease of day-to-day living that is not disrupted when riding scooters on sandy, slippery, and dangerous roads.

Great video! I’m moving to Thailand in a couple weeks and this has been more informative and useful than most of the the other videos and resources I’ve seen. I think a lot of that is down to this being a much less self centred / biased perspective - and by that I mean that most other videos seem to be focused heavily around personal experience rather than research. Thanks man 🙌🏽

Thank you MX TW I am happy this was helpful. Tried to consider perspectives from others for this one. Some people love Koh Phangan for working remotely. For me, it was okay but lacked convenience and comfort to be most productive in regard to business. For Koh Phangan, I enjoy it for a 5-day visit but not my top pick for long-term working remotely.

What location would you stay on the island to work? I'm looking for somewhere with nice beaches that's got remote working cafes/areas. So really looking for somewhere with a bit of a vibe.

Luke, I enjoyed the northwest section of Koh Phangan the most - for places to work from, food spots, and convenience. With a scooter it was convenient to stay near Salad Beach and ride south on the interior road which is in better condition compared to the coastal one.

What's the average wifi speed in mbps? I watched this video just for the wifi and they breezed over it 2 seconds with no real info....

Matt, thanks for your comment. While working from Koh Phangan my WiFi was mostly my phone's hotspot and Thailand's 4G network. This was more dependable compared to my condo. And, it is only $30 US monthly, unlimited. There are good co-work spots, but not sure about their speeds as I worked mostly from coffee spots and where I stayed. An issue can be, the rolling electricity blackouts.

still... 500 bht for 1 hour .. when the daily wage is 500 bht for 8 hours work. not so cheap. I wonder if that is a farang price!? because I would be hard pressed to believe if local thais pay 500 bht an hour to learn Muay thai what I find in thailand is there are two prices.. foreigners price and thai prices.. which is fine.. yes, 500 bht an hour is cheap for US.... but slowly what happens is expat hangouts become similar to home prices and can start to get expensive.

Can’t hear people talk, stupid loud music😂 not sure why people put music on. It’s not a night club. It’s a RU-vid channel.people want to know and learn not listening to music. I’m talking about 99% of RU-vid channels.
