Can't thank ye enough lads, brand new to Koi keeping. The wealth of knowledge that ye have given out over this series is gold to a novice Koi keeper. Just when you think you have the best way to set up the pond for best results ye dismiss a myth that is common place across a lot of platforms. I would much rather take the advice from people that have years of knowledge and experience ,so thanks again and keep it coming.

Pretty much find myself in agreement with all that you guys have said, 👍 especially saki vs the next level down brands, they are often similar or even more £ per kg, just smaller 10kg vs 15/20kg bag size. But without a massive veg filter, running recycle RO, and/or trickle in/out, how do you control nitrate?

Great chat guys. Two things regarding your discussion food and trickle in. After watching your videos when your first started doing them, I decided to give saki hikari a go and stop the trickle in, Ricky asked me to let him know what the results was. Well we’re only into June and my koi behaviours are better than I’ve ever had, fish very active looking for food and just generally look very healthy, also the constant problem I had with flashing and all scrapes were showing nothing have literally disappeared. It’s either a big coincidence or changes have been for the greater good. So thanks a lot it’s been a bit of a game changer for me. Cheers 👍

Great to see you Guy's on top form glad you put this trickle in theory into context I don't use anything other than sodium thiosulphate it's the only way to 100% know where you are with your clorine water change 10-15% every week and my pond is thriving along with the Koi and as you say treat the whole pond volume with declorinator great episode guys we are all so lucky to be koi keeping at the same time as your journey's with koi keeping and of course KOI TALK thank you keep right on.🍺

Another great show guys. I will listen again during my travel times so I can digest the information. To bring you back to the running cost of a pond people are very tunnel visioned. You are rightly looking at the hobby but if folk could think outside the box they can also save money elsewhere to allow zero changes to their pond. Ponds do cost to run, but there are so many more simple measures we can take to reduce our energy bill. Working in this sector and energy firms have to provide information to allow you to save money. All folk need to do is search energy saving tips and there are untold measures that can save a couple of hundred pounds per year. It’s a shame people don’t know about this as they naturally focus on the largest running cost to save money. Just switching all electrics off at the mains when they’re not in use will save in access of £60 per year in the current market and that’s just one measure we could all take.

great talk guys. Totally agree with you, the shows in the UK are at the wrong time of the year. Doesnt make sense to stop feeding for weeks, travel with the fish at the pick of the summer when we've all been waiting for the good temps to 'replenish' the koi. Doesnt make sense.

Hi guys great to have you back! Any news about shipping the magazine abroad? I understand it must be a real pain in the backside to arrange, given the hoops in place after Brexit, just to mention last November I ordered some merch from Nowzad charity, they posted it 30th November and the postie delivered it a fortnight ago! Ciao and keep up the good work

Talking about food good and not so good, I'm currently feeling a food that the main protein comes from Soya, also horse beans and spirulina , my 6 koi look healthy, i don't get much in the way of fish waste, but i could change it up to a slightly more expensive food as a novice koi keeper your view on this would be greatly appreciated.

Great video as always. Do you guys not rate the Cuttlebrook food? I'm new to koi keeping so don't have a good benchmark but have a few fish from them and really like their story so bought their food. It's poultry based protein though
@KoiTalkMagazine
@KoiTalkMagazine 2 года назад
There was a study carried out with Talapia whereby they felt poultry meal could be a genuine alternative to fish meal as the amino acid values are similar. They netted a similar weight gain but this was for the food industry. I have not seen a detailed study on the impact of poultry meal with koi. It’s an ethical & more sustainable alternative & we have a lot of time for the guys at cuttlebrook. I’m not familiar with the food so hard to pass comment, I’m sure Mark or Sam would be happy to give you more information I can only comment from our experiences & what we know develops strong, muscle based frames in koi

As you invest so much time, money and effort in your procedures, would it be useful for you to give your dealers some leaflets (or you could do what seems to be the trend, a QRcode to a site that explains it al...) to hand out with every fish coming from you that they sell explaining that, although nothing is guaranteed 100%, these are the steps you take to reduce as much as possible the risks of the fish-poop hitting the impeller? You do provide great additional value so why not clearly advertise it

Great vid again guys, 95% of the so called KoiTubers should be shut down, I see so called new dealers banging out fish like there sweeties and most of its rubbish being sold to other youtubers who then post videos of them dumping them straight into their ponds 2 weeks later complaing of parasites and fish loss, and to be honest I reckon 90% of koi hobbyists have no idea what their doing and base all their knowledge on some bloody idiot who also doesn't know what he's doing.
