I remember my uncle taking me to see this film, in Sri Lanka, Maharagama. I was a small girl about 10 years. That was my beginning to love Hindi films and music, what a tremendous change has done!!! Greatest ever Hindi songs of yesteryear.

What a great poet Majrooh Sultanpuriji was ! The same poet, who for gazals used heavy urdu words, for bhajans used words from Hindu philosophy, uses for the songs of Dosti the simplest words from daily parlance, conscious of the fact that the singing is done by a blind street-singer to make his living. But in spite of that the poetry does not fail in poignantly bringing out philosophy of life and undaunted spirit to live in spite of all odds.

dosti won the filmfare awards in the music category for laxmikant and pyarelal in 1965. the two films which lost were sangam and woh kaun thi by shankar jakishan and madan mohan respectively. the one difference between all 3 movies was the singing by rafi sahib which made all songs of dosti superhits
