I love this dry suit!! The #kokatat Idol is both a dry suit and a dry top in one! This drysuit uses Goretex Pro material, which is a fantastic upgrade from the material Kokatat used in earlier models of their dry suits. It’s a slightly thicker material, feels more durable, and should last longer. When I purchased this dry suit, I was stoked it felt more bombproof, and higher quality. Not to mention, it dries quickly too!
As you’d expect from a dry suit, it is completely waterproof with sealed seams and also highly breathable. The Idol is easier to get in and out of than a front-zippered dry suit. The zipper system is no problem once you’ve used it a couple of times.
Try not to be rough with the latex gaskets (neck and wrists). They might be tight at first, but they will stretch a bit over time which will make them easier to use. It’s best to keep sunscreen and lotions away from direct contact with the latex gaskets as the chemicals will degrade the rubber more quickly. I use socks before donning the dry suit pants and then a neoprene sock over the goretex socks before adding my kayak shoes. Whatever it takes to avoid abrasion of the Goretex socks from your feet, sand, etc.
Kokatat backs this dry suit with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. If you’ve never tried a dry suit before, it’s a game changer for cold water sports such as kayaking. You want to make sure the size you choose allows for ample layers to be worn underneath.
