The plastic is an abs. It is incredibly stable and strong. I know plastic is stigmatized as cheap but abs, pvc, pba, etc. All have different properties. If you feel it is a poor design choice, which of course I respect your opinion (I am just trying to point out some facts), you already make great content why not test it for yourself. See how it acts in extreme hot and cold conditions.

Don't let ABS touch acetone, citric acid based cleaners, isopropylalcohol, silicone fluids, vegetable oil, and many other solvents. Why use ABS in this application vs a simple spring steel coil? Is it really that much cheaper? ABS is corrosion resistant which is one benefit, but overall it does not seem like the best material choice for this application.

I have both koken and wera also. I use my kokens on dirty cars and i use wera on clean applications. One negative about wera sockets are they are made in taiwan. Ill take Japanese quality over taiwan anyday. I have quite a few koken tools and love all of them. That said the wera all in set is a beautiful set also. I have that set and the imperial tool check plus and u pretty much can fix anything. I filled in the sockets it was missing buying singles off amazon. Have a complete metric and sae set.

Well, said. I agree with your use of each as well, the Koken for greasy jobs and the Wera for the clean jobs.

Cool. I just ordered the 8pcs metric 3/8 drive koken nut grip socket set. Can't wait to try them.

It looks like the Tone and Ko-ken have a short should for the nut which I like. There probably is not going to be a perfect socket for every situation. However, the BB location on the Wera probably makes it superior. But the plastic collar will not last. So its a temporary superiority.

In the extreme cold i could see the plastic getting brittle, but in the heat, given what it's designed to do id be willing to bet its made of a plastic with a very high melting and glass temperature

Disappointed with the Wera HF sockets. The Wera HF sockets don't hold some JIS fasteners well for some reason. Wera changed the design of the HF sockets. They used to have one ball bearing on each side, opposite. Now they're two on one side. Koken solves the problem by using wire to tension the ball. Much better. Koken wins hands down. Yes, problems with flanged nuts. Try different fasteners, JIS, DIN, SAE and metric. This is why I have so many different brands of tools.

I been begging Ko-Ken to make the 11mm 1/4" nut gripper... As BMW intakes use 11mm,,, And you drop that nut.. It finds it's way down to the starter. Along with them injector hold down clips...When I remove the intakes. I find them all the time sitting on the engine...

I have both and prefer koken. I especially like the 1/4 drive universal nut grip sockets paired with my 1/4 drive flex head ratchet.

Why do you say Wera is German when most of their tools are made in the Czech Republic? Maybe you have them confused with Wiha?

The outer diameters of the sockets seem thinner on the Japanese variants. Better for tight areas. Weaker maybe? Thanks for the useful vid.

I have the wera hf size 7 and 10. The problem is, the wera have thicker wall than normal socket. In some case, I cant use it due to not enough space.

While I do have that exact wera set, the sockets have quite wide walls compared to the Koken
