They play one deck that they have to play the first game. The next game or two (depending if a tiebreaker is needed) they can choose from the original or 2 secondary decks. The secondary decks have up to 5 cards different from the primary deck for teching against certain matchups. A good example is having 2 snap freeze in a secondary mage deck for the mirror.

well offcourse he is clever.. this is the most lucky based game ever, so sometimes there is nothing you can do. But he is still on of the best player in the world.. cause he is the one who can actually make decks that everyone copy from internet cause they are dumb to make their own.
