9 centuries ago, in Kolhapur - a small town in Maharashtra, King Bijjala asked his cobblers to design him a shoe. The craftsmen produced a masterpiece which could survive a 1000 years. A slipper that never brought its wearer any aches. A work of art that took from the name of the town…the Kolhapuri chappal.
And till today, the Kolhapuri chappal makers keep their craft alive. A lineage that has passed on for 850 years. Mother, wife, husband and child…an entire family comes together to make a single slipper. The chappals are not only the legacy of Kolhapur, but her pride and identity. A gift that takes her story from Maharashtra to all of India, and the world.

First of all, i would like to say that i m proud to be born and brought up in such a beautiful country (my india)... Where there are number of religions, castes traditions and much more. Likewise, we also have number of artisans specialized in hand made products. Like : banarasi sarees from banaras. Paithani sarees from paithan. Brass utensils from moradabad. Kolhapuri chappals from kolhapur. Bandhani from gujarat & rajasthan. And much more.... Everything worldwide famous. Hat's off to all these artisans. And before i end, i appeal to the government of our country & concerned ministries to please promote and support all our artisans in their respective field.. Proud to be an indian muslim.... 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳

To appreciate the art everyone should know the process of it as well. It should be our duty to teach and make our children familier with these gems. There should be mendatory heritage skill development classes in school in which they bring artisians from different part or the nation to teach students about different crafts every month if not every week. In this way when children know how much hardwork goes into making ONE article, they will value it more and in place or bargining will take pride in paying the deserved price!

I like this film because it beautifully shows the making of these Kolhapuri Chappals. We can see each step and how it works. It is properly shown how the entire household plays a role in the making of a single chappal. It takes around 6 weeks for a single chappal to be made,it shows the amount of hard work needed for this one chappal. It is well said that if foreign countries can recognise this skill then why can't out own Indians.

I am very sorry to inform you that, Kolhapur chappals are mainly from Athani(pin:591304) Belgaum district in Karnataka State. You will find more people weaving Kolhapuri Chappal in Athani. Since Athani is just 90 mins away from Kolhapur, these chappals from Athani got famous there. Later they got famous there as Kolhapuri Chappal. Its been so many years people in Athani are struggling to get this fact out but are failing constantly. Even today anyone can come to Athani and have research over it.
