The town of Ataka in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture is a historically important point and is particularly famous as a port of call for the Ataka no Seki and Kitamae ships. Ataka no Seki is a legendary place through which Minamoto Yoshitsune is said to have passed on his way to be pursued by his brother Minamoto Yoritomo, and its story is widely known as the setting for the Noh play "Ataka" and the Kabuki play "Kanjinchou". Statues of Minamoto Yoshitsune, Benkei and Sekimori Togashi Zaemon stand here, telling the story of the book to the present day.
In addition, Ataka Town flourished as a port of call for Kitamae ships and became a key point of maritime traffic on the Sea of Japan side. The Kitamae ship was an important vessel that carried goods throughout the country during the Edo period, and Adaku Minato flourished in that trade. Even today, Ataka Town is a place where many tourists visit because you can see the old townscape with a strong history of it.
