That operator is a personal friend of mine. He's been running the big shovels for over 20 years and is a very safe operator. You see how those big rocks fly off the bucket onto the roof of the bed. That's why a safe truck driver will always remain inside the cab when the truck is being. Komatsu states that a PC4000 should be matched up with a 190 ton truck- (ex: 789). These are 150 ton trucks, however I think they are a perfect match.

You'd think that theses videos would be boring as hell, yet I can never stop watching them once I start! Must be something left over from when I was a kid; the same reason most boys like heavy machinery and trains and such. And fast cars and big trucks!

The horn on that unit sounds like a squeeze bulb bike horn, haha!

@PAmining And also use some common sence about the machines speed. The operator was letting me stand outside to film this video. Why would he run the machine at full speed so that I'd get bounced around and the video would turn out all shakey??? Think before you make a comment lol.

I thought so, same as it is on the Hitachi and O&K. The guy sure is a seasoned operator, as they say, "its not his first day". THis machine looks as though it is tuned down, we have O&K Rh400's here that will that will roast the contractors EX5500's,we run high output to the max, probably why there spend more time down than up.

@jetspaul Yeah but see the rock he's digging in is actually one of the hardest in the state. The machine is running at full power. It's not the operator that makes it look slow, it's the machine itself struggling to dig in the abrasive rock. And another reason why the machine is struggling is because the shot itself was not fired correctly.

WOW Justin!! Thats about all I can say. Extremely impressive vid and top notch view! Man, it made me a bit nervous for the truck driver when those rock were booming down on top of the cab shield. Then the Komatsu loaded those boulders on, WOW! The operator wasnt even fased. Thats true skill and experience for sure! At the start you were talking about truck loading regulations. That the 1st truck being loaded was to small for the PC4000. How come? To easy to over load the truck? Thanks!

Good shovel man. The one where I worked needed lessons. He'd rattle your teeth. I've loaded a bunch with a 115 Z-IV when the shovel was down but hauled a pile more when it wasn't. Just turn loose of everything and hang on because you hoped the seat belt would hold if worse came to worse. The truck beds had a rubber liner but that doesn't mean anything when a big one is just dropped. Glad I'm gone from there.

+Lewie McNeely Yes it's a very productive loading unit and the operator makes all the difference as to what you can get out of one of these machines. This is an early 4000 Series machine and I remember when it first came onsite it was plagued with constant electronic issues. Took a while to work the bugs out of her!

Not like the old pilot valve days. Now you've got to be an electrician and computer programmer.

They weren't timed correctly. One thing you should know about blasting is that you can pack the holes with as much AMFO as you want but if the holes aren't timed just right, it won't break the rock correctly.

Outsider here, just a question. When you say the shot was not fired correctly do you mean that the charges were not large enough? Just curious is all. Really cool video, love watching the power of these machines.

Anyone know if a hydraulic front shovel can sustain damage sometimes termed a stage 1 boom jack on cable front shovels? I assume not because I see hydraulic shovels using the boom to move itself around almost like the small backhoe excavators. For example how a mini-excavator gets over its own ditch or a curb without damaging the curb.
