Certainly don't just take their word for it, but there is surprisingly little scientific literature on the actual health benefits of it. You'll also find that there are a handful of instances of neurological damage, coma, and even death linked directly to it. Do with that what you will, but I really doubt coca cola has anything to do with it. Health concious people are just going to drink water anyway.
I’ve heard there are dangers to drinking kombucha, but I used to have gastritis. And having sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt, and kombucha always makes my stomach feel really good. If I have nausea in particular, kombucha usually fixes it most of the time. I’m gonna keep drinking it.
They never got anywhere with this. Also, NyQuil has 10% alcohol in it and this drink has far far less alcohol in it. NyQuil is a medicine that is sold over the counter. Do you think they will go after it next? No. This was just a scare tactic. That is all!!
Think about it, young adults under 21 gets caught while driving after drinking this?! Anything over 0.01% gets them put in jail, screws up their day for years. Especially for young adults, a DUI charge can cause them more than $20,00 in fines, loss of wages, a mark on the criminal record for all potential employers to see and added cost of insurance.
Where are your videos about corn syrup and how much damage that has done to the American populace? Don't You Love how they say kombucha MIGHT have the certain problems yet we knowingly serve people thousands of products with factual evidence for its destruction behind it? Honestly I don't know if kombucha really does have some negative drawback, but I can say that I would drink that any day over shit soda
because its a free country and people willingly drink what they want knowing it is bad for them. Soda companies dont claim to be healthy and isnt marketed as good for you, unlike kombucha....
U missed the point. Kabocha is being sold a nonalchohol immune booster drink. Not all humans have the same alcohol tolerance and a lot of states have Zero Tolerance when it comes to drinking and driving. Here in Texas is a felony if you get caught drinking and driving dont matter the amount. There's even "dry counties" around where I live where alchohol sells is prohibited. All I'm saying is that if can of SODA HAS to show the amount of CALORIES it contains per serving, then a Kabocha should at least do the same for its alcohol content that way people make a conscious decision of what they are actually putting in their mouth.
@@wtxs.o.gs.o.g9768 usually they tell you the alcohol volume on the side of the bottle. It's so minuscule that you'd have to drink a bunch of kombucha bottles to even feel some form of an affect. I'm 16 and I drink kombucha and dude if it was anything like alcohol 1. My mom wouldnt let me drink it 2. I'd have to be 21 to buy it.
@@strawberrytiramisu Have you had GT's "Classic" line of kombucha? It has more alcohol and you have to be 21. I was drinking GT's before they pulled it from the shelves in stores and split it into 2 different products, Classic and Enlightened. Enlightened is what you see in stores everywhere now, and comes in a clear bottle. It has hardly any alcohol. Classic comes in a dark bottle and you can feel the alcohol and it's a little harder to find. It used to come in a clear bottle like Enlightened does now. Before the reformulation, you could just go into a store and buy GT's and get a buzz, no joke. Of course, they didn't call it Classic then because there was only one line of kombucha product.
dar I’m sad I opened mine and it exploded and the kombucha went everywhere and it was $7:99 I’m sad I wanted to drink it I’m going to Whole Foods tomorrow to get it a new one it’s really heathy
The greedy American medical community wants you to keep drinking your high fructose corn syrup instead. That physician knows good and well that the alcohol content levels of kombucha aren't even close enough to cause any form on intoxication.
not the stuff they are attacking in this video... But there is some HARD KOMBUCHA out there and is very healthy for you! check out FLYING EMBERS HARD KOMBUCHA.
I get tipsy VERY easily, and I've drank kombucha plenty of times before and never felt anything at all. This is complete bull. The alcohol content in kombucha won't do anything to you. You would have to drink like 10 in one sitting within 15 minutes in order to feel something.
@@Elliothyunh ehh. it’s not like it’s hurt you. you’ll just have to poop a lot lol. but yeah there’s kinda a cap off when it comes to how much probiotic is in your body. more doesn’t necessarily mean it works faster or is better.
My daughter has drank kombucha since the age of 2 and is now almost 7. She is excelling at school, socially (more than I could say for myself at that age) and has a quick wit and sense of humour. She must have drank hundreds of these drinks over the years and we have even made it ourselves (yes we did actually test the alcohol content using the same system as when you home brew cider and it was always below store numbers for alcohol) Kids fine, I'm fine and everyone I have met or read about is fine.....
@@theclubgaming5346 no, you aren't understanding. Your liver metabolizes alcohol and there is so little in kambucha that it doesn't even make it to your blood stream. It's like when you eat carbs but in such a small amount that it is used before being stored as fat.
5 years later, I'm watching this. My son told me 2 days ago that if I wanted to drink beer I should drink beer instead of sneaking and drinking kombucha. I told him that cough syrup has more alcohol than kombucha. His Google search showed cough syrup at 25%. Kombucha had .5%. I wouldn't drive after taking the recommended dose of cough syrup. The person that said their alcohol level was high because of kombucha can also say their alcohol level was high because of the vanilla flavoring in cake.
@@audiemulhern926 omg huhuhuh XDD outsmarted him lmaoooo But for real. This happens where i live. When i tell the people at the grocery store that can carry 2 items back to the car without a bag, the roll their eyes at me.
Back in the Caribbean we have something called Malta. Its a sugar cane brew that contains about 0.5% alcohol. I drank it almost every day as a kid - never got drunk. This is total BS.
Howard King additives are put in mouthwash so people don't consume it. And she's right. It contains 1/8 the content of 1 beer and, No one drinks that much. You can't get drunk off kombucha unless you drink it by the gallon. The truth is....Money. Gov't wants it to be taxed so they can get more of your hard earned dollars. Why do you think 60g sugar sodas by the gallon are $1? they're more of a risk to drink than kombucha while not taking away precious money from the govt.
Not necessarily. I have no tolerance for alcohol and kombucha was the first beverage with alcohol that I've ever had. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd known it was fermented, but the labeling and placement made it seem like it was just a fancy fruit drink. Before I'd finished half the bottle I was feeling weird and light headed while I was driving. When I got home I realized what I was drinking by looking at the smaller print on the back of the bottle. I don't think it necessarily has to be placed in the alcohol section. But clearer labeling would be nice for those not familiar with what konbucha is.
bluedreams517 this is a point i can respect. I thought the same when i first saw kombucha. I had heard about it but didn't knew it contained alcohol. And i can really respect it when you say that it needs clearer labeling, cause it should. And finally, right, it does not need to be in the alcohol section. It's safe for most people with the exception of those in your condition
@@spike_-pw9iz you also don't drink down an entire bottle like soda lol, but if you did most Kombucha are .2%, it's not labeled because it's under 2%. The ABV is less than .5% in most stores, when making it yourself you get about .8-.5% because it's dependent on the amount of sugar added which would be less than .0005grams of alcohol, you'd metabolize that in .015grams a hour.
Home-brewed Kombucha's usually between 2 and 3.xx% Alcohol. It can be higher, but you need to brew it as beer for that; it'll never come out as beer unless you do it on purpose.
A cashier carded me at Whole Foods for kombucha. I had good laugh but she kept pointing at the .5% alcohol by volume. The whole idea of regulating it to liquor stores is absurd and he’s right... the industry would tank
@@ShawnMenchaca because no other store cards for such a low precentage of alcohol, plus Any alcohol under 1.2% is non alcoholic wile a drink that is 1.2% or more is Alcoholic. So she shouldn't have been carded for that drink. Most bottles also say NON-ALCOHOLIC on the bottle.
My grandfather drinks 1 glass Kombucha almost everyday since he is still very young. He makes his own Kombucha at home. Now he is 72 y.o, healthy and never been hospitalized for any serious illness.
@@avamiller1245 *Scoby. Also, it needs to be temperature controlled at 79 - 80 F (or a bit more if your thermostat's off,) and it must be sealed away from bugs. Also ferment it only in clean glass. Never add Apple Cider Vinegar to it, or you'll introduce vinegar eels, and then you'll need to throw it all away and sanitize the whole brewing container through boiling and bleaching and maybe boiling _again._
OMG this is why I don't watch the news, this video right here.... Exaggerated for nothing. Kombucha has done nothing but help my digestion, and the potential of getting even a buzz is slim to none because there is barely any alcohol, and you would probably have to drink a couple of *boxes* (not even bottles) which I have yet to see someone do... Please CNN do yourselves the favor of annihilating yourselves your no longer credible or unbiased... Its part of the fermentation process, maybe the law needs to change since it so old, and unscientific.
This drink practically saved my life! Don't try to complicate how I am able to purchase this product why not attack sewer water suger drinks I mean (so-duh)
I have some stomach issues that tend to show up every month/two months. I even went to see a gastroenterologist about it about 5 months ago. They put me on a prescription dose of omeprazole. I decided to do my own research into natural, organic things I could add to my regimen of medication and stumbled across kombucha. My ex girlfriend would drink it every now and then, and I remember taking a sip of her Synergy Trilogy one time and remember it tasted good. I decided to add kombucha into the mix because… well, why not, right? I went with synergy trilogy as I already knew I liked it and some of the other flavors are a bit more adventurous. All I have to say is WOW! Not only has my stomach been back to 95% normal but I have also stopped taking the medication I was prescribed. I haven’t had one of my flair ups in over 4 months and that’s honestly a big deal for me. I also just feel better all around. I would’ve called you crazy a year ago if you told me I’d be drinking kombucha but here we are! I don’t drink it every day but I have it about 4-5 times a week. I’m going to start ordering it by the case as the savings will definitely help. I should also note that I’m an alcoholic/addict in long term recovery. If I thought for a second that kombucha would trigger my addiction I would never drink it. I don’t even drink NA beer and wine. As an actual alcoholic, I can promise you that the alcohol content in kombucha is basically non-existent and I see no problem with children drinking it.
Kombucha could help people stop drinking alcohol because the best way to stop an addiction is to replace it with something else to get addicted" to but easy to wean off of. Like Kombucha it convinces your mind that your getting alcohol because its right on the bottle but you're hardly getting a smidge of it. Same with methadone and heroin addiction. Methadone is a much cleaner version. They both have opiates in them, but methadone is more safe because its made by chemicals approved by the FDA but heroin is made in someone's dirtg trap house you don't know whats in it and injecting risking disease. For smoking, the patches and gum are a good replacement. Both have nicotine but one, a cigarette or vape has more cancer causing chemicals whereas patches only have 1 chemical.
YEAH KOMBUCHA HEALED MY STOMACH I WOULD HAVE NO APPETITE AND BE BLOATED ONE BOTTLE AND I WAS FIXED, I TRIED EVERYTHING PREVIOUSLY TOO, TO NO AVAIL, SO KOMBUCHA IS A GOD SEND
Good for you, I was on nexium for 20 yrs. Way to long. And the side effects from it kept concerning me. When I saw what big pharma pulled in 2020-2021 and it is owned by same company, I said no more. I went cold turkey worst 2 months of my life. Thought I would never be able to eat or drink again, the acid reflux was horrendous whether I ate or not. Then I found kombucha. 🎉🎉
You’ll be fine, I’ve been addicted to all kinds of things, like anything else you have to recognize it and work your mind constantly ie self reflection. Sure the cravings come but subside after time. Good luck
Raw BeautyBee hey nothing wrong with msg in proper amount. Msg is actually a naturally occurring compound in allot of Asian ingredients like seaweed and bonito.
So what!!!!! Leave my favorite drink alone! I Drink one per day and makes me feel amazing along with regulating my gut health. How about getting people off drugs ?! Let’s look into that instead
Almost all the bacteria in kombucha are from the acectobacteraeae family - they metabolize alcohol (ethanol) into acetic acid. Kombucha does have alcohol, but the amount is so low it makes no sense calling it booze
Get the kids drinking more coke and pepsi!!!! Get them to drink more fluoridated water!!! More M&Ms -- the ones with the pink bows to prevent breast cancer!!!
This is clearly about the money and taxes wanting to be placed on a product it obviously many love to enjoy and has health benefits but if you can't put a price tag on it in America nowadays they'll find a way to do so. Better be careful because if it actually does provide cures pharmaceutical companies aren't going to be too happy about that either....
Also, according to their “research,” you’d have to drink about 30 bottles of kombucha (with the highest alcohol content they have measured) to get a slight buzz, at that point, I feel like you have earned it.
I am Mexican and as I love Tejuino (Mexican fermented drink) I love Kombucha as well. And Nope I wouldn’t go to a liquor store to buy Kombucha. Kombucha doesn’t have that much alcohol come on! I bet a fermented pineapple has way more than thie Kombucha.

When I first tried this drink I had a headache that wouldn't go away I drunk this in literally my headache went away I don't feel this drink is dangerous
wait....they are arguing about the negative effects of 0.5% alcohol.....when a little alcohol if anything can actually be good in tiny amounts by keeping the liver exercised and if anything MAYBE making some people's livers be able to work better in the event that they do drink more.....uhuh....coca cola must have signed a big fat check for CNN
+TSX_Adonis right - liquor is sold in supermarkets like wal-mart what is the big difference. It is a trace amount. Not like you are going to get drunk off the stuff.
Bull! I’ve been drinking it for a three years and this is totally ridicules! You can’t get drunk on Kombucha! It’s very expensive and I never felt anything like getting drunk on it !
He should have fired back with, ”how many light beers does it take to get drunk? Now multiply that times 8, then tell me you could drink that much kombucha in one sitting."
Wow, a whole .5% of alcohol... i am sure when the kids find out they will drink up 8 kambuchas, just to have the alcohol content of one lite beer. Such a danger... Everyone think about the children!!!
So you wanna go back to the good ol' victorian days when your glass of milk was mostly paint, lead made the mustard bright yellow, bread was loaded with plaster of paris, and every skincare/makeup product was formulated with arsenic, mercury, etc? However subpar today's consumer goods may be, the damage they currently cause to people's health is **NOTHING** compared to the illnesses people suffered & the rates at which they were killed by consumer goods BEFORE those industries were regulated.
Keep your hands off my 'bucha, Uncle Sam! What an idiotic premise for scrutinizing this drink. I have NEVER gotten a buzz from kombucha, even the GT's in the dark glass bottles.
oh no an 1/8 of a light beer! so you'd have to drink 8 bottles of kombucha to equal one light beer.... omg how horrible! this has to be the dumbest video about kombucha I've ever seen.
It has trace achohol because of fermentation. And it says specifically on the package that it does and advises pregnant and people who are breast feeding not to drink it.and it only has a little bit of achohol you would have to drink a lot to get drunk.
@Michelle Cabral Read "The Big Book of Kombucha." It tells you the best brewing temperatures, how to identify what is and isn't mold and it has recipe suggestions. Very good read.
I've started drinking these trying to replace my beer habit. It has fd my stomach health this has helped and makes me feel like I'm kinda drinking. Better than the alternative
I was carded at Whole Foods for buying kombucha, I couldn't believe it! You'd have to guzzle 12 of these in a row to catch a buzz and no human stomach could hold that.
Yes but many people like myself drink it as an alcohol replacement, where we were regularly consuming large amounts of alcohol previously. So in that context it surely is a massive health plus !
if you tried to get drunk from kombucha, you would have to buy many cases for a one nighter. i dont have several hundreds of dollars to spend on a one night buzz. stupid feds trying to get more tax dollars. a comment that was made in the video "health food people dont go to liquor stores." even health nuts need a buzz :) Canadian Club for relaxing, kombucha in the morning to get me up and going. i love kombucha, started brewing it at home this week. i hope it turns out great. 3 days in, already seeing a new SCOBY baby forming at the top of jar, very thin - but may be able to use baby SCOBY along with mother SCOBY to produce 2 separate gallons :) hoping the feds dont raid my house for tax money, lol!
Probiotics combined with prebiotics like fiber food help in protecting our intestinal lining with spillage of undigested food into bloodstream and boosts our immunity. Sure the soft drink companies don't want their customers to ruin their fellow hospital business and pharmaceuticals!
