F-35 has agility like F-16 and much more thrust. Adds stealth and 360 degree spherical targeting and detection, without using radar. . The sensors called DAS. can see at night in all directions without night vision googles using its DAS system, also allows pilot to see through his aircraft. DAS allows pilot to see in full color or regular HUD mode. The HMD allows the pilot to target his enemy using AIM9X close range extreme angle missile just by looking at it even thought the F-35 DAS system would have already been tracking the aircraft. The F-35 enemy detection range using DAS is greater than AESA radar that is going into the PAK FA T-50 Russian stealth fighter. DAS capable detection range is currently classified. Marine LT Robert Shmital said detection of enemy for F-35 will be 10 times the ranges of current radars vastly improving how the fighter can engage its target.
NOK is the norwegian currency. like SEK would be the swedish one. I computed a single missile is supposed to cost 20 million USD... This is probably at a very small order and initial price...
To the doubters, I'll say this: You get what you pay for. This aircraft is a product of American engineering, expertise, and know-how. The aircraft that came before it all share one basic common trait: Combat-proven excellence. The A-6, A-7, A-10. The F-4, F-5, F-111, F-14, F-15, F-16, F-117, F/A-18. ALL are COMBAT PROVEN. ALL have been dominant, world-beating aircraft. Given the track record of American aircraft, versus all comers, I'll choose the manufacturer that has proven itstelf the winner, every time. When I buy electronics, I buy from companies that I know have produced best-selling, best-reviewed products in the past. I buy QUALITY, because I expect QUALITY. Samsung, Sony, Asus- these are manufacturers I trust. I have bought from them before, based on reputation, and every time I buy something new, I am ALWAYS happy with the result. When problems have arisen, I have received excellent customer service. When upgrades became available, I had excellent results, and expanded capability. The same process applies to kitchen appliances, cars, lawn mowers and... military hardware. As to the JSM ( Also being bought by the United States) it's definitely a worthwhile purchase. As to it's cost? Who cares, it's nothing compared to a ship, and it wouldn't take many JSM's to send almost any ship to the bottom. You get what you pay for. Buy the best, fight with the best, win with the best.
You Americans. You always speak from the standpoint of an American. The rest of the world is something different. That said you may be right in this case.
Sweden doesn`t exist anylonger. Now it is transformed into a Banana Republic. Swedistan makes plane for the Third world, mainly islamic countries which their terror supportive government support openly. Swedistan deserve to be nuked and it must be completely destoyed!
Guess what? A F-86 can shoot down a Su-27, I mean a good pilot is a lot. That video just tells people that the F-35 is a good plane, but a pilot is needed. Second, You should see the F-35's Stall maneuvers, It is doing what the F-22,Su-35 can do..WITH OUTR VECTOR thrust and holds a 50 degree Angle of Attack
IBT98 It has a readiness rate of I believe lower than 50%, sustained G turning is very poor, transonic acceleration is poor (the plane is made for subsonic operation), it can't supercruise, it can't climb, it can't turn and a it cant run. It also can't hide, detection range does not scale linearly with RCS reduction, and unless technology stands still, radar improvements will mitigate such improvements. Not to mention that AWACS radars are much, much, much more powerfull than fighter radars and will have no trouble providing target locks. What is probably more important is EW.
Jacobite The sustained G for the F-35A direct air force model, It has 9G's force, Though not sure for turn rate or radius, I can tell you..They will not have excepted it unless it is with in the F-16's high maneuverability terms. The Corner Velocity might be good, Thus a It's turn rate could be with in the F-15s/Su-27's turn rate of 26.5 to 28.8 degrees/second, The F-35 uses the F-135 Engines, with 24,000LBF I know that The F-35 AWACS are more powerful then the APG-81 radar detection, but the APG-81 can detect over 100 plus targets, IT has received over 5 awards for withstanding intensive ECM jamming and abuse. The APG-81 range is way below the F-22's and F-15's APG-88 and APG-63 radar range, but it will be more advanced then hte APG-63(v)1 and 2 on par with model 3 with the same antenna for the F-18's radar. I think for the most part, the F-35 won't succeed the F-22, but give it a chance. In fact IT this whole Media eat 'em up for the F-35 may be a publicity stunt It might turn out to be a damn good fighter jet, probably the best. People doubted the F-16 because it wasn't a F-15, IT turned out to be the most effective light weight multi-role fighter ever built. The Damn Polish Use it, They love it because their MiG-29's were less maneuverable and the MiG-29's cock pits are a cluster fuck of Avionics. I mean, THe F-35 can't carry this, which has 290km range and I think hte SLRM which has like 370km range, Like one of the farthest in the world I think, Not a whole lot from Russia compares
IBT98 The F35 from memory has a sustained G Force of about 4, which is different and lower than the maximum, which makes it less manuverable than a F16, which FYI it was not designed to replace as the F16 is a multirole air superiority plane, the F35 is a bomber which they claim is to be multirole despite the fact that the internal weapons bays can not be reconfigured to carry more than 2 Air-to-Air Missiles, and in reality is stuck in a bomber configuration! Therefore its a direct replacement for the F15 which replaced the F111 which also had internal weapon bays. Ironically the F15, especially newer versions with conformal weapon bays would make much better multirole fighter planes, especially if the F22/35 stealth coatings, engine/radar technology was applied, making it a stealthy supercruising plane somewhere in between the F15 and F22 in terms of performance. Actually there are many people like me who think the F35 will never enter service because of its serious problems with airframe cracking, which has lead to weight growth, which has meant much of the plane has needed to be redesigned to try and reduce weight. Apparently it is reaching its weight ceiling which is a problem, especially for future upgrades. And even if it does according to the netherlands budget an F35 costs at the moment about 180M ea, but since their readiness is well below 50% for every F16 they replace they will need two F35s to get the same number into the air. This is a problem because each F35 costs twice as much to maintain according to them, so this means it costs about 400M procurement, and 4x operating cost to replace a single F16 with an F35, a plane which isn't flightworthy! This raises serious questions about the financial viability of operating an F35 fleet and even more so about the operational viability of operating such expensive and unreliable planes from very expensive carrier battle groups and amphibious assault ships, if you wont even be able to get half of them in the air! This means you need double the number of carriers as well as planes to replace each F18.
Jacobite well i guess you don't know about tech...you think that R2-D2 computer that think and fly the plane on its own costs cheap? you think that today's air to air combat is about maneuverability and shooting guns? i think no! 'coz today is about tech combat! with sophisticated missile..any super maneuverable aircraft is useless! name all of your Russian made aircrafts, coz your Russian Airforce had a hard time taking air superiority above Georgia! unlike US airforce that can take the skies with just 1 day/night... for now..i'm waiting for the News about the Ukraine Crisis..let's see how your Russian Airforce work! the only thing that this F-35 needs is a Long Range Air to Air missiles when it comes to 1 on 1 combat... but in battlefield..i guess not..coz F-22,F-16, F-15 and F-18 can do the job of air to air combat!
