I have the 1971 Konica C35 Automatic version, I haven't used it in 20 + years 😁 My favourite camera just to hold in your hands, is the Durst Automatica, it has a pneumatic shutter release, instead of a clicking when the shutter is fired, it goes "phut" 😂Thanks for the video, greetings from Wales.

Ur welcome comments are well appreciated since everyone has some kind of great memories associated with film cameras. Although I tried various cameras so far the Konica C35 is like a small buddy that I don't want to give up on since it's really asthetically refined. Great to hear you own an automatic version :) Durst Automatica I never heard the shutter that goes phut. The Zenza Bronica rangefinder RF was it had this dying sound which I thought it could go to heaven any moment 😂 Thanks for reaching out from all the way from Wales :)

Hey man, I discovered your channel through your Ektar H35 video; your videos are really cool to watch! It's cool to see you discover and describe these trips you do. I'm a complete beginner to cameras. Pretty much that video motivated me to look into your other camera reviews, and then led me to research into mechanical SLR's and I am so amazed haha x) what crazy, engineering marvels of machines cameras are. I ended up ordering a Konica Autoreflex T2now second hand and I can't wait, I'm only a hobbyist and still learning the basics about the photography world but it's fun... Thanks again for your content, can't wait to watch more of what you release

Thank you for the video! Explains everything nicely. Just wondering at 8’47 you mentioned using Fuji color 100 but overexposing one stop by setting the ISO at 50, why is it overexposing? Shouldn’t it be underexpose? Just a beginner trying to make sense the languages and mechanics here. Thanks!
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer Год назад
Hello Hanni San thanks for questioning me happy to reply... Under expose is when the final output of the image will become darker....and overexposure is when the image ends up being bright. Fujicolor box speed is iso 100 which means if you shoot at iso 100 and let's say 1/125 shutterspeed and F8 was the right exposure (not to dark not too bright) If I set the light meter to iso 50 (which is one stop darker)..the light meter will think the base iso of 50 as the correct exposure but in Reality if I shoot the exact same setting this camera will think the environment is darker and will try to adjust/compensate for the one stop of less light thus, this camera will shoot at a slower shutter speed or open the aputure a little bit to let more light reach the film negative.... *Keep in mind that if you go below the base box speed iso 100 and shoot below that it would be overexposing the image while the opposite is true. If the box speed is 100 but shooting at 200 the light meter would think the environment is too bright and will try to cut the lights in end get a darker inage Unlike a manual camera where you have to adjust the setting, this camera in particular is fully program auto where the camera decides the light coming into the camera thus adjusting accordingly...but because there is an Iso dial I can make the camera think it's shooting a slower film (iso 50 film) although the film is 100... As an end result I will get a overexposed image... hopefully I didn't confuse you :)

Enjoyed watching your video, I just picked up one of these caneras, I fitted an LR44 battery and the light meter seems to sit just over mid way and reacts to more light by going up but when I cover the sensor it doesn't drop below halfway! I tried another battery a 675 hearing aid battery which is 1.4v so closer to the 1.35v battery specified, the meter reads slightly lower but it won't go below halfway! The needle isn't sticking because it drops to the bottom.of the scale when I remove the battery. Any ideas?

Hey man, great video! I have my own Konica C35 but I believe the light meter is toast. When I found it at a local antique shop, I picked it up, but I failed to check the battery compartment ahead of time and found a corroded battery within. I picked up some replacement batteries and am still getting nothing out of it. But I'm still gonna load some HP5 and see how it goes. Cheers!

If you haven't done this already (maybe you have) -- if you open the back and shoot towards a strong light, you can confirm that the shutter actually fires. If you're getting SOME flash of light, it means that without the battery you're getting SOME exposure -- just at a consistent shutter speed and aperture. (The local camera shop might be able to tell you what the default (battery-less) shutter speed is. And you can probably eyeball whether the aperture defaults to "fully open" or "fully closed" (f/22?). So it'll be like a quirky Ilford Sprite II (or one of those other modern plastic "point and shoot" cameras). But if you do this, you'll have a sense of whether you should shoot only on sunny days, or only in overcast conditions, or what: you can't change the exposure settings -- so you'll have to be selective on the available light. (Apologies if you'd already figured this out yourself.)
@garrettlison4992
@garrettlison4992 Год назад
@@GyeGreene so I just messed with it a bit and the shutter is firing at about the same speed with and without the battery. I can see the needle on the light meter jump ever so slightly when pressing the shutter whether the battery is in or not. I have a feeling the battery terminal connections are shot.

I don't know why people hunting for electronic compacts like olympus mju / xa, while there is great rangefinders options that is fun to use, with better lenses and for cheap. I've got c35 fd, it's just incredible little camera, weights and feels as half-frame cameras while being FF and with fast lens.
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 6 месяцев назад
I like the Konica more than point and shoots since you physically have to focus while point and shoots kinda I don't like the camera does it all automatic. If it's a quick Snap would be better but I like taking my time and patience:)

There are voltage reducers/ adaptors for LR44 batteries which will reduce the voltage to 1.35 V They exist but go for about $30.
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for commenting :) It's not worth it it's better to just use the LR44 and take into account the voltage difference by exposing differently

Thanks for commenting 😁 I actually don't use chemicals to process it at home due to space restrictions and have a lab process them for me and scan most of the time in house 35mm I use Plustek Opticfilm 8200Ai Medium Format Epson GTX830/V550 And post process the initial scan in Silverfast software that comes bundled together with the scanner (overall brightness and color cast) . After that I use Photoshop to remove the excess dust particles and crop into final form. I should really make a video on that topic :)

Question would the PX675 battery work any better if it has 1.45v?
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 8 месяцев назад
I never tried it so can't vounch but if it's the same dimension as LR44 it should work But I would highly advise LR44 since it's the cheapest battery sold worldwide but since the voltage is stronger, the light meter becomes over sensitive by one stop so take that into account but if you have the battery with the optimal voltage it's the best however the PX675 looks expensive imho

Hi ryoさん! I purchased a konica c35 e&l and been using it in my travels in 日本。Do you have tips in predicting which mode to choose when shooting? I am still in the process of learning and experimenting but i still get a lot of out of focus shots especially if i use the 1meter and 3meter range. Thank you so much for your video! And i love this camera as well!
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer 11 месяцев назад
Ur welcome thanks for asking. The Konica C35 series should have a viewfinder than has two frames and if the outer and inner frame called paralax coincide/matches the frame photo should be in focus but keep in mind there should be a light meter in the viewfinder which the needle should point to the aputure that it is shooting at. If it goes below F4/F2.8 the point of focus becomes too shallow and harder to get in focus. To get in focus you only have two options which is using faster speed film iso 400/800 or shooting in really bright environment. The EL never tried it so I can't say much should have a flash built in that could make the light situation better. And I try not to use the focus dial that says the 1m 3m distance as reference when shooting shooting since I personally think the viewfinder does a better job in terms of better hit rate. And it's going to be more like trial and error beyond that hope it helps. :)

Nice video May I ask you is any difference from the V version?
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer Год назад
If I'm right the V is the stripped down version of the C35 I'm not sure it has the rangefinder removed and it's more only for zone focusing. You have to guess if the point of focus depending how far you are from the subject....if I'm right there's only 4 distance u can choose from and they also removed the self timer function of the original C35 hope it helps cheers :)

hey, thanks for such a helpful video! just have one concern with my konica c35 - i used lr44 batt and kodak film 200, set my ISO at first at 100 then 50 since as you mentioned to do when using lr44 batt; but unsure why my the needlepoint(?) in the rangefinder is still at the bottom red even tho i try to point at both dark and bright environments. i’m kinda worried it’s broken, i was excited to use it. :
@RM.TokyoPhotographer
@RM.TokyoPhotographer Год назад
Hello thanks for commenting I can't vouch since my unit isnt broken and never seen that happen to my camera but if I have the chance I would just test one roll of film to see if all the photos would be dark/too bright just to make sure if the light meter is working. There might be a small chance the light meter within the camera that pointer is broken however in reality when it relays that info to the camera to autocorrect there might be a small chance it might tell the correct exposure.
