Danzo might have ordered it, Itachi and Obito might have pulled it off, but Konoha killed the Uchiha. You're telling me no one with a Byakugan noticed a wholesale slaughter happening? None of the hundreds of ninja hounds alerted to the murders? No one from the Nara clan thought it was odd that a vast majority of their village's police force wasn't on patrol? I remember when I was a kid and my older sister and I were sharing fandoms to try to get to know one another a bit better. I was trying to explain to her the plot to Naruto and how he grew up and the at the time: Chunin exams. She looked at me like "You do realize that is sooo effed up, gladiator arena for children, adults cheering on?" At the time I was young and thought she was just knocking down something I liked... As I grew up I realized that she was right. She said that they were probably raising Naruto to be so desperate for attention and recognition that he would be a perfect mindless soldier. Now I think she was right, although if her theory is correct.... Konoha failed. But I know now she was not being mean, just objective.

Just realised something. Obito dies on a mission to destroy a bridge to interrupt supplies. Ninja can seal supplies into scrolls and carry a massive amount. Ninja can jump whatever the bridge is over/walk down, cross and walk back up. What was the point?

You forgot one concept of the Chunin Exams....That I believe this was the FIRST time that the other villages agreed to send their Genin to another village. It was supposed to be a promising aspect and bridge the countries. They did have their own Chunin Exams...and Admittedly by the other Nations - THEIR CHUNIN EXAMS WERE ON THE SCALE OF GENOCIDE! The Valley Hidden in the Mists I believe had their Genin OUT RIGHT FIGHT TO THE DEATH in one large Battle Arena - and only the ONE SURVIVING GENIN would become a Chunin. That was their exam. Cause only the ABSOLUTE BEST could proceed. Survival of the Fittest. And that is just ONE example. Just imagine that for a hot moment: you train - live your life - and out right grow with like 100 other students, and when the time comes you are to be thrown into effectively a corpse pit and told "Only ONE of you may leave here alive. How that happens? You fight till you are the last one standing. This is NOT optional. You WILL do this. And the only way out is through death." and then left to kill or be killed by your companions whom you may have grown bonds with.

When you think about it, What Danzo did in the hidden rain to Hanzo indirectly resulted in Konoha being destroyed. Which is ironic because Danzo did everything he felt was necessary to protect Konoha.

This is why I like the Land of Iron so much, since for some reason, they found successful peace through a system of honorable warriors, restricting their power to the use of only weaponry and have them widespread over the land instead of concentrating power in a single village. Sure there might be less samurai than shinobi, but consider where the samurai live, a land covered in an eternal winter, to survive there you would need to be extra tough to live as a normal person. A military force must be strong enough not only to defend their country, but also to survive in it's harsh conditions. This might be biased but I think they kept the more important part of Ninshu as their core belief, understanding one self. The better you understand yourself, the better you are capable of knowing your limit. There is a reason why the five great nations uses the Land of Iron for the Kage Summit. And Mifune is kage level, at least as strong as Hanzo, who is a Kage level threat. Even the stubborn Ohnoki is wary of the samurai, saying along the line of a shinobi cannot defeat a samurai on a one on one fight. Tldr; I want a samurai video.

No wonder so many people wanted to destroy Konoha, the village has a long history of unprovoked aggression against other smaller or bigger nations, it has probably the biggest history of crimes than any other village, hell it even has it's own history of exterminating their own clans. I kind of understand the intentions of Obito, Madara, Danzo and Nagato much better, they were people who were one way or another subjects to a massive amount of trauma that Konoha has produced upon them which is why they started to search for peace and creating their own definition on how peace should look like. Also to add another thing that i found it weird which is related or not, when Naruto came back in Konoha after the training with Jiraiya, Tsunade immediately sent Kakashi and his team to pursue Akatsuki, the same guys who wanted to capture all jinchuuriki, so she sent Naruto, a jinchuuriki and the most important one to fight them literally puttiing him at risk not once, but many times knowing very well how important his well being is, add that Team 7 still lacked a member so it was incomplete and she still decided to sent them fight off Akatsuki.... Hell they even counted on Naruto to fight and win against Pain, the most powerful Akatsuki member and basically it's leader who killed Jiraiya, a Legendary Sannin and one of the most powerful ninjas from the village. What i want to point out is the lack of common sense Konoha had shown when came to Naruto, he was pretty much alone every time when a crisis came up and everyone came up to him to solve the problem putting on his shoulders a big responsibility and he wasn't even a genius or a strong ninja at the time like Lee, Neji or Shikamaru

You know what is so funny about the Uchiha slaughter. They did it to prevent another Madara, while not killing literally the incarnation of Madara. Like the fire lord killing all the Air Nomads but the Avatar...kinda missed the mark there.

Danzo also ordered the assassination of Hiruzen and got caught. But instead of executing him, Hiruzen pardoned Danzo and swept the matter under the rug. Allowing Danzo to continue abusing the citizens of Konoha.

Can we consider the fact that Danzo also managed to convince the Sand Daimyo to filter/assign missions to Konoha instead of Suna? Because that shit was one of the main reasons why Orochimaru managed to pull the Kazekage into his plan to crush Konoha and kill Hiruzen. They where literally impoverishing Suna actively to the point where the Kazekage had to work his ass off 'farming' gold dust to sell. Mind you, they were 'allies' at the time.

Boruto (anime) actually is good in touching on this. Specifically around the introduction if kara arc. Speaking on how smaller villages were/are always the ones that suffer most when something big happens in one of the major villages. Many of Konahas actions can easily be viewed as reckless, evil or simply destructive when viewed from any perspective from outside konoha.

The chunin exam thing is self explanatory. They send children to the chunin exam to show daimyos and businessmen the future potential of their country so that they can get more missions. It's also a way to weaken the potential of other villages in an official way. It's also a way to make money as different villages host the exams so they all get some economical growth too. It's a lot of compromise but hey .. in a world that's been warring for 2000+ years , compromise is the best you can get unless you go for world domination.

He accepted a one on one dual and had his clan jump other guy from behind, truly the MOST underhanded do anything to win type of person. the 3rd had an outside ninja come in and erase all the memories of him and the 3rd destroyed all the paperwork that's the only reason why people don't know about him.

If I remember right, the Uzushiogakures protection was the actual whirlpools around the village and the only way to enter was to know a specific path in the water through/around the whirlpools and the only people who had access to the path besides their own people was Konoha so its entirely possible that Konoha (Danzo) actually sold the information on the path to the other great villages.

Hero and villain are relative terms. These acts are indeed atrocious by Konoha, but are commonplace in the shinobi world, which is why Madara just wanted to do away with everything altogether.

I wrote a fanfic called; What if Minato arrived sooner. Basically Kakashi put chakra into the Kuni that Minato gave him and this summoned Minato and he was able to get them out before Obito got crushed so basically everything that would have happened afterwards didn't. The Uchiha massacre didn't happen, Madera died without anyone to take over for him, Minato and Kushina didn't die

Yeah, konoha is an autocratic dictatorship that uses ANY means to dispose of anything or anyone outside or inside it's borders in order to maintain stability and power. And by doing so produces its villains like Sasuke, Nagato, Obito and Madara. The worst part is it still acomplished to maintain it's moral superiority over them. Wich is RIDICULOUS! The problem I have with that is that a great deal of the fandom buys this moral narrative. Objectively, there is no "good guys" here. And Konoha as a city-state is just the worst.

Minato had a run on sight order. No one would fight him. They were told to retreat if they saw him. Then he would hunt them down and kill all of them. He has killed thousands of shinobi who were all told not to fight him.

Another thing to note about all villages is that the leders all have unlimited power and can just tell children to go fight there wars. And for the leaf hashirama kept saying not to send children to war and conflict but yet children still go to war!

Ok, I’m really surprised that you don’t remember/know this. Konoha is not the only village which holds the Chunin Exams. Every village holds the Chunin exams with them taking turns hosting them every six months. We just see the exams repeatedly happening in Konoha’s Forest of death because of bad writing and laziness from writers, since the writers didn’t want to design/draw an exam arena that belongs to a different village. The Konoha exams should only happen once every 3 years.

I definitely believe the leaf was far more corrupt and Evil then the other Villages aside from the hidden rain. Under the rule of the third Hokage and really danzo, there was war and eventually genocide which was essentially state-sponsored. You also had the most evil person in the entire series coming from the leaf. We can talk about Orochimaru and his body is hanging off the wall in the experiments with children which is horrible. We can talk about Obito and his role with the Akatsuki. We can also talk about danzo and his various Shadow armies. But all of that pales in comparison to what Itachi did to his family and his people which ultimately, weaken the leaf. I know there's a large group of fans that somehow believe Itachi did the right thing in killing everyone he knew and siding the oppressors instead of the oppressed. Just think about representation and what it means to not have a say or a vote in the land that you live and all because you are different. I cannot blame fugaku for wanting to free his clan from what's basically tyranny. After Minato died, there is no reason why fugaku shouldn't have been the next Hokage but instead they go with the third who is arguably the worst in history of any Village. Maybe not through sheer malice but neglect. There's obviously something broken in the hidden leaf that produces so many monsters. Itachi was willing to let Kisame cut off Naruto's legs and abduct Kakashi. I've never once heard of this so-called entail that he was passing back to the hidden leaf but it seems like Jiraiya would probably be alive if he did a better job of that. He also aided in the infinite tsukuyomi by capturing tailed beasts which also makes him a monster. What kind of a man will cut down their own mother? He could have easily taken their eyes or pacify them some other way but he chose to kill them and there is nothing worse than a man that would murder his family and commit genocide.

Those are very good points I never really thought deeper into it. However I'm curious, how bad was Konoha in the context of the other villages? Because I remember back then feeling that actions and stories from other villages are far more brutal than konoha. Like the battle royale exams in the swordman village, Gaara being a raving pychopath, all other villages going for the kill in the exams, using the exams as an all out attack to destroy an entire village, the salamander being a shady tyrant. Wasn't Konoha at least more humane than them?

Hiruzen is the main one at fault gor Danzo. He let his own personal connection to Danzo cloud his vision on the right things. i think rather then konoha being "evil" its more like its "no better than the other nations" and this is pretty apparent once you enter shippuden, and its one of the big reasons naruto convinces nagato to stop killing, because naruto wants to end the "cycle of hatred" which INCLUDED konoha. konoha was never treated as the "heroic city" just...classic naruto was too naive to see the corruption so it never really popped up until he matured.

Point of order: All the nations agreed on the Chunin exams but in Naruto, it was the selected location. Konoha was only the location because it added to a new story, developed power levels and diversity, and in the meta universe it was merely coincidence we spectate the exams at Konoha. In Shippuden, the Chunin exams are in the Hidden Sand. In these terms we need to step back from ethics and understand that while every nation had a mutual peace for the exams, they were all technically strategic allies and enemies with every nation. It was understood by every nation that despite having open borders and trade, there was a very good chance two Shinobi but what seems to be two allied nations, would be set against each other during a mission. The Chunin exams weren’t just testing kids for war. The children get observed for their prowess in future non war related missions. It was kakashi’s prerogative to upgrade the first Team 7 mission from Genin to Chunin after he realized they were up against Kisame. It was expected to be a simply watch and observe mission, and perhaps a small fight if there was any resistance. Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke were not expected to fight someone of Kisame’s level, nor were they considered skilled enough to contend with him. When it comes to the Ninia World you must realize that the leadership technically is a quasi-fascist state, where the ninja are considered the standing military, and each Kage is essentially the general of that standing army Every resident of that Mation has the potential to join as a standing army and bolster the standing forces. We know Tenten is a skilled fighter, but in Boruto she is a simple shopkeep. Are we to suggest she is no longer capable of holding her own in a fight? I’m pretty confident that if it came down to protecting the village, she’d join the fight. You’d think twice as a single ninja to start shit in a city where the Flower Lady (Ino) can Possess your mind. This is why strength and chakra are considered to hold prestige while having no Chakra or very little chakra would open you up to ridicule and disrespect. The more skilled you are and the more chakra you have makes you a better soldier for the nation’s army. The Chunin exams were a declaration of the Strength of a Nation’s army, and an assessment of personal aptitude for future missions. Konoha was not exclusive in this. All nations participated to say “This is how strong we are and this is what you will come up against if you try to harm us.”

Sakumo killing Sasori's parents is worse than you could possibly imagine. Here's what happened because of it (in no particular order): Granny Chiyo died from the technoque that she created to bring puppets to life. A technique she intended to use on Sasori to make him human at the cost of her life. 298 people got turned into human puppets, because Sasori was raised by Granny Chiyo and was guided onto the path of puppetry and given all of the resources he'd need for his refinement of technique. Sasori turned the Kazekage that was deemed the strongest into a puppet and got away from Suna uncaught. This crippled Suna's economy as they tried to find and recover their Kazekage's body. Also, because of this, the Wind daimyo started funneling missions that could've benefitted Suna to other villages, leading Suna to be so desperate as to combine forces with Sound to form the alliance that nearly destroyed Konoha, which lead to the death of Hiruzen. Also, Sasori was able to put seals on various ninja, Kabuto and Yuura being the most prominent members, forming his spy network. Also, Sasori joined the Akatsuki and joined in on their atrocities, even helping to kill Gaara via Gedo Mazo. And of couse, the crowning jewel of Sasori's achievements, he turned his own body into a human puppet, hence Chiyo making her technique. Also, Sakumo killing Chiyo's son and daughter-in-law caused Chiyo to attempt to kick Kakashi's ass for his resemblance to Sakumo. [Insert sarcastic 👏👏👏 here] And we saw what Sasori's parents were like. For all of being related to Chiyo, they were surprisingly normal and if Sakumo just kept his sword sheathed and his techniques to himself, Sasori could've been an average joe ninja. Or, at least, wouldn't be morally bankrupt enough to create human puppetry.

The only real problems were Tobirama, Hiruzen, and Danzo. Essentially the people who inherited Tobirama’s way of thinking. They’re the ones who fucked up the village and the ninja world to the point that heroes like Naruto needed to save it

Hashirama handed out the Tailed beasts like they’re candy, Tobirama ostracized the Uchiha clan & invented the Edo Tensei, Hiruzen let Orochimaru & Danzo run wild, the village drove Sakumo to suicide, Danzo & Hiruzen made Itachi kill of his clan, Minato made it a bright idea in trusting the village with his son…

It's a big part of the story that konoha is bad. I mean all the villages do evil stuff and a big part of the story is about Naurto rising up to fix a lot of the messed up stuff done by past people and still living people. It's made pretty clear konoha does plenty immoral things.

Well, the whole point was about how the shinobi world has too violent and we follow the people who try to be good in this bad world. The shinobi rule is to let the friend die and finish tge mission, but in the very start kakashi tells us it should be the reverse

I’ve been thinking about this on a basic level as in every war, all Participants are guilty of crimes and someone essentially end up ruling over someone else. That usually leads to suffering and resentment towards the in in charge.
