For some reason, even though it's one of the few gags that didn't really lead to anything, Kazuma's interrupting other people to say "Hai hai Kazuma desu." always got me.

Tbh Konosuba pulled the biggest troll I've seen in anime for a long time, when he forced Aqua to come along w/ him. Fucking hell that shit was hilarious. The sheer gravity of his his troll can only be understood if you consider the fact he stripped a god of their divine status.

I once had an English professor who said that good comedy was about subverting the audience's expectations. After watching Konosuba, I fully agree with that sentiment.

Here is a rather curious fact: for a low budget, no expectation show, KONOSUBA has been in the top 5 shows (even top 1 a couple of times) this season, standing toe to toe with the heavyweight of this season, erased. another fact: season 2 has green light already. EXPLOOOOSION!!!

I really enjoyed this show. The comedy was unlike anything I've seen in other anime and the characters were so goofy in a lovable way. Every episode had me laughing.

I too was guilty of thinking the goddess was gonna be another stereotypical tsundere overdrive type of goddess. Thank goodness she wasn't Also, I like how this show makes the MC and goddess pretty good friends actually. They even sleep next to each other without any stupid 3 minutes of wasteful banter constantly reminding the viewer of how awkward it is.

I'm surprised you didn't talk about the main character's awesome voice and lines, he has the most non-cliche dialogue I've heard in any anime and I love it. His delivery alone just makes me laugh. I really hope we get to see a season 2 (heard it was already confirmed, but I don't hold my breath on those news) and a much longer season overall. 10 Episodes is much too short.

Kazuma has a great catchphrase. Any time someone says his name he says "Kazuma desu". "Yes, i'm Kazuma." Like he's talking on the telephone or something.

Watched this, can confirm. Most episodes got me to laugh out loud a minimum of 2-3 times.

I normally don't watch many comedy anime, but this video convinced me to watch Konosuba and I am really glad that I did! Despite being a comedy it actually mentiones problems that are often completely omitted in more "serious" anime/ games like the subject of paying for collateral damage or being left with some shitty low-paying work. Plus the way they handle different quests is completely hilarious. One time they needed to purify a lake with crocodiles - did they let Aqua purify it while protecting her? Nope! They put her in a metal cage, tossed her into the lake and chilled on the shore half a mile away ;)

I completely agree! I thought this would be like Yu Yu Hakusho because of the beginning, but this ended up being a amazing, funny anime xD...

When I first tried the show i immediately dropped it after the protagonist pushed some random girl out of the path of a truck. I assumed that he would be a rediculous wish fulfillment character in the same fashion as Kirito that couldn't possibly have a death that was anything less than super heroic. After watching your video however that couldn't be further from the truth. The main character pissed himself and died in the most pathetic fashion possible only to be laughed at and in the fantasy world all the characters are unlikeable tossers! This actually sounds like a hilarious show to watch, and i will definitely give it another shot! I'm glad i saw this video, thanks DigiBro!

I think you summed it up well: Konosuba is stupid as hell but totally genuine. When describing it to people, I liken it to Monty Python's Flying Circus. It Lampoons everything in the genre and is utterly ridiculous, but plays it with a completely straight face, with just a little bit of self awareness. And yeah, I also love the goofy animation, which when it comes to Aqua's expressions, knocks it out of the park.

This show is just so fucking fun. And from a conceptual level I'm not really sure why. It's about a main cast of awful people who do shitty things to each other and others and are generally met with failure. That's exactly the kind of mean-spirited comedy setting that I hate with rare exceptions like Archer or, to a lesser extent, Rick and Morty. But for some reason it really worked in this show. Maybe because all the characters were just earnest enough that they were still likable. Maybe it's because the main character isn't the standard absolute asshole but is just generally kind of a dick because of the aggravating people he's around. Maybe it's because I never get tired of Megumin shouting EXPLOOOOOOOOOOOOOSHIUN! Whatever. I like it.

My favourite part of the anime is when Kazuma is being called by the girls in Episode 7. The nonchalant responses Kazuma gave made me laugh. "Kazuma, Kazuma!" "Kazuma desu." "Kazuma, Kazuma!" "Kazuma dayo." Can't wait for season 2.

Update, you MADE me watch Konosuba. And I loved it. I went from this, to the anime. And these days I look up 1 hour long Megumin voice remixes while waiting for season two. So thanks.

I get Hard when Aqua cries in agony too. Now this series just needs way more Doujins, NOT ENOUGH!! Side Note - I like Konosuba for similar reasons as Log Horizon, more focus on sidequest type stuff & world building. Though Log Horizon is Waaay more dense on world building, where as Konosuba is much funnier (LH jokes are repetitive).

What I like most about the show is the main protagonist. He is an actual fleshed out character compared to the "nice guy" from the anime is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon. I mean he actually has real moments of fear, anger, love etc... Also the generic fan service episode parody was the best episode I have seen of any anime this year so far.

The description of the characters at 4:08 makes me think of Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Then I thought, man, I would watch the crap out of an over-the-top anime-cliche ridden version of Always Sunny. Regardless of how accurate that description is, I'll definitely check this one out.

People are actually saying that the show won't get a second season because it's doing so well, and the LN sales have been boosted by a lot which was apparently the sole goal of the anime adaption. Does stuff like that actually happen? Would it actually have gotten another season if it only did okay?

KonoSuba was definitely one of the more pleasant surprises of the Winter 2016 season. The combination of Studio DEEN+Light Novel adaptation isn't normally a successful combination, but somehow it worked in this occassion. While not laugh-out-loud all the time, the show was consistently entertaining, and that made it okay in my book. I do understand why the comedy doesn't click for some viewers though (remember, comedy is VERY subjective), as KonoSuba relies on very specific reference pools to lampoon -- the Isekai/Trapped In A Fantasy World Self-Insert Power Fantasy Harem Light Novel (which is already enough to turn people off at first glance). Not only that, but it ALSO relies on Kazuma being a mean-spirited ass to his companions, and a lot of people aren't comfortable at THAT either. Lastly, Konosuba makes it a point to show that Kazuma's (female) party mates are all incompetent nincompoops, and I'm sure that many feminists won't be happy about THAT. In short, much of the laughs will be gained from laughing AT the misfortune of the characters. So if you're looking for wit, or something transcendent, this obviously isn't the show for you. However, if you're looking for a fun show that indulges in quick and very lowbrow (and mean) humor, that parodies many Light Novel power fantasies out there, then KonoSuba is right up your alley.

The number one complaint about this show is that the main characters are vitriolic best buds? Something that is arguably a more accurate representation of actual friendship than anything else. Amazing.

The show is really something. You go into it expecting the typical harem tropes (that bitchy goddess is totally going tsundere for MC) and it turns out to be the best comedy in years. There are not even any typical harem romance developments. You would expect Aqua start to like him but she and Kazuma have a 'real' brother-sister relationship. Unlike all those little sisters who want Onii-chan's D...

About the boobs thing... I really love that for the most part they have realistic boobs. Although the giant, jiggling, balloon boob thing can be funny, it gets old. Boobs aren't balloons. They sag. Even if you're young, they sag. I also like that they don't seem to wear bras. I doubt bras would exist in a world/time period like that. So it's a nice touch. :)

Season 2 Episode 1 is gut-wrenchingly hilarious specifically for the reasons you listed, it's the punchline to a joke that's been building since the very first episode of the show.
