The cathedral organ is capable of truly filling one of the world’s most beautiful church interiors with its sounds. Coupling the giant organ with the choir organ has created multiple ways of filling the Cathedral with sound from various directions. In order to ensure that the present album does full justice to the sound quality of the new organ, it is being released not only as a CD but also as Blu-ray Audio in Stereo 96/24 as well as 5.1 Surround Sound and, ultimately, Dolby Atmos. On 4 October 2020 the sounds of a mighty organ on the west gallery of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna will once again fill the interior of one of the world’s most beautiful churches. The giant organ had been unplayable for a quarter of a century but has now been restored by the Vorarlberg firm of Rieger and linked to the choir organ at the front of the Cathedral, an instrument that Rieger had likewise built in 1991. Both instruments can now be played not only from a mobile central console in the nave but also from a second central console in the gallery. These developments have not only resulted in a cathedral organ on the west gallery that is finally capable of filling the building with the sound that it produces, but changes to the Rieger organ in the southern side aisle mean that both instruments, with their combined total of 180 stops, can be played together from two central consoles. Hitherto unsuspected worlds of sound can now be opened up on the new organ, allowing the whole of the interior, with its volume of 100,000 cubic metres (3½ million cubic feet - larger than London’s Royal Albert Hall), to resonate from both its western and its eastern ends.

Am 4. Oktober 2020 ist es endlich so weit: nach langer Zeit werden von der Westempore des Wiener Stephansdoms wieder mächtige Orgelklänge einen der schönsten Kirchenräume der Welt erfüllen. Es entstand nicht nur eine nun endlich den Raum ausfüllende Kathedralorgel auf der Westempore, sondern durch Adaptionen an der Rieger-Orgel im südlichen Seitenschiff können dann von zwei Zentralspieltischen beide Orgeln mit insgesamt 180 Registern gemeinsam gespielt werden. Bislang ungeahnte Klangwelten können dann auf der neuen Orgel-Anlage erzeugt werden.
