I have absolutely fallen in love with this bird. Easy for me to say, I've never lived within a thousand miles of one.

I'm a a Australian and I hear our kookaburras down the oval and out on our telegraph poles they will let us know when it's going to rain, we have the most amazing birds and wild life here in Australia we have been very lucky to have grown up in this wild country they are even more magnificent when you hear them live outside your door in a tree God bless all of our wild life in our world.

When i first visited australia for the weekend in 2008 i heard strange sounds coming from the trees in surfers, sounded like monkeys which i thought was strange as Australia has no monkeys outside zoos but after asking a local shopkeeper what the sound was was he explained to me the kookaburra which is endemic in surfers. Now each time i visit aussie and hear the sound it comes to heart of an aussie icon. When you Aussies visit New Zealand you will hear at night the sound of "Pwarrporh" - thats the cry of the Morepork endemic to many areas of New Zealand especially around The Wellington Area.

Such a cute, dainty looking little bird that has such a loud voice. I love animals, but I'm glad they don't live in Florida. Imagine hearing this cackling outside my window first thing in the morning. Man, oh, man. 😅😅

Lately there have been kookaburras making a racket & swooping down on my cat when he's been minding his own business in his yard & scaring him so much that he's afraid to go outside now.

These wonderful birds often wake me with their morning chorus, settled in the gum trees along our road. Not much to laugh about, stuck in a gloomy cage.

I love those birds. Giant Kingfishers are great. Their calls were used as sound effects in old Dark Continent movies.
