ikr he talks too much and constantly interrupts. you know it's bad when kool keith himself has to stop you from cutting him off lol let kool keith talk ffs! plus he didn't do his homework, didn't know dates, records, etc. didn't even mention ultramagnetic's first single make you shake/to give you love or the 1985 space groove track.
He kept more respect for the art rather than going making money. He made money and that was enough for him. He stayed how he was because that’s all he ever knew. He’s one of few rap artists that never changed. That’s why he kept getting better.
Too bad the interviewer was more concerned with hearing himself talk then actually letting Kieth finish his sentences, like damn dude we don't care about what your favorite song was in high school, we wanna hear Kool Kieth talk about his experiences being one of the most creative lyricists ever.
Yeah some of these guys get a really big head and don't seem to realize they're interviewing fuckin royalty, not only in terms of hip-hop, but just in terms of lyrics at all. Kool Keith is one of those guys who will never get the appreciation he deserves while he's alive and probably not even while any of us reading this are alive, but he will go down in history. I have huge respect for this guy, huge! He has respect for his craft and that's why his craft demands respect.
This interviewer is very excited to ask some very no brainer questions..."where did you get big words from? Did you have a thesaurus back in the day?" Kool Keith, "we read." lol dead
It's quite ironic Keith actually talking real about stuff and the interviewer interrupts! Keith has always been out there and obviously there is a lot going on up there for him. It is refreshing to hear him talk normal for once. King of New York, Big Shot on the East Coast, Kool Keith legend
Kool Keith is a pioneer to Hip-Hop but more specifically to the expiremental, sci-fi and just straight weird Hip-Hop. And Keith is fuckin 56 too, he dont look like hes aged at all.
Reminds me of Necro and death rap. If your ok with death and how to and very gorey lyrics. Aside from that his beats and rhymes are ridciulously good. One of my favorite MCs along with Kool Keith n MF DOOM
It was different to hear at first. You got used to hearing the rhyme at the end of every bar but Kool Keith would keep goin then rhyme it on the next one. Or not and make it sound like a run on sentence and rhyme a different scheme lol Once i just listened to listen instead of hear i was hooked. His beats are dope af too. One of the few that is consistently dope
i Believe that B Smalls said Sex Style was his favourite album. i'm at 18 minutes; and don't agree with people putting down interviewer-he's a much younger guy who's certainly talking in a more excited, youthful fashion to a classic veteran-but he cuts off his Own questions many times to allow Mr. K to keep 'sharing his experiences'. and Keith never seems put off at all. he does indeed say 'hold on a second', or something once; but it's in an appropriate context/respectfully put and taken. Keith probably uses 98% of this piece's words. i was lucky enough to be a college station dj and have a young guy (Fred) with a laptop following me back in 2001 or so, play 'The Mack is Back'. Hooked. Keith has a way of doing a few things His Own Way and in a Superior Fashion. Like the mentioned and respected Busta Rhymes. and also much respect here for MF Doom-Another Top Level Artist. have to get to more QBert and other KK Collaborators.
Sex style unreleased archives… pure gully porno hip hop. The ultra shit with Tim dog… 😤 the cenobites EP with godfather don. This man is a fucking living legend!
I just grab a few cassettes the other day 3 different DasEfx tapes Eric sermon insomnia Boyz n the hood soundtrack Don't be a menace soundtrack Menace to Society soundtrack Tales from the hood sountrack Kool and the gang "in the heart" Kwame "Nastee" Eminem The Eminem Show Hi/ Five Yella "one mo n***@ ta go" Mo thug "Family Scriptures"
I had two spots left and added/found this man thank god, I was stuck at top 8 for years lol, n then I added myself for the 10th spot ALL TIME! LOL REAL ISH
The groups Keith was “supposed” to be in would’ve been crap. Diddy and all these other pop rap cats would’ve ruined Keith. Keith is too hip for Hip Hop and way ahead of the pack. His stuff is avant-gard.
I honestly disagree, Keith is too smart not to be able to do what he wants regardless. I could easily see him on a Diddy record just lowkey making fun of him and his lane of the industry the entire time. It would be fire and Diddy would put it through, clueless the whole time.
@@earthshaker5842 “Lowkey making fun of him?” You think Diddy is stupid enough to make fun of without knowing? Where’s the logic in doing that? If KK can do what he wants why would he even consider doing a record with Diddy? And don’t respond by saying money. You really don’t have any understanding of the Kool Keith concept. Like i said, zero logic to your premise.
@@josefino72 I just think Keith is versatile and if he made a record with Diddy it wouldn't necessarily be bad at all. Keith would probably be making fun of lowkey gay rappers how he always does, which would be funny cause Diddy is lowkey gay. How do I not have any understanding of the "Kool Keith concept" is that different from understanding him as a rapper? Keith's made super experimental shit and he's made accessible shit that appeals to a much wider audience. You sound like you're just talking shit because you can't handle a polite disagreement.
Very informative interview. However I thought it was wack that Noah had to put a shout out #me too to cover his ass at 19:20. It was as if he was apolgizing for liking a song from 20 years ago in order not to offend anyone. To me that was bull****. Holy shit, I hate political correctness.
Kool Keith. Real original artist. Black Elvis is classic. What they doin' today is like listenin' to people with 70 IQs rappin'. Can't listen to that low vibration shit. All Praises to The Most High
@@earthshaker5842 Oh yes! Sun Ra on his own planet. Discovered him in my 20's, a long time ago. It's sad that the music has been dumbed down and demon infested. This drill rap shit is nuts. Rappin' bout killin' each other. Zionist run the music industry and corporate media and everything else. Devil worshipin' mfs. All Praises to The Most High
Keith was way ahead of his time dude is a space cadet.. Nas was rapping in the time of now not no futuristic funky ishh. K K has so many albums and stays touring..4 different decades Still getting $$$
Keith also had that whole Slim Shady aesthetic going on with Rhythm X, and that was in 1992/93. Walking around the street, wearing superhero capes and eating cereal.
Wasting great voice and rhymes on trash beats is one of my top 5 pet peeves in hip hop. Niggas make excuses for these dudes all the time. "It's about the lyrics, not the beats." NAH!
@olskool71 It was Written and God's Son both had better beats than Illmatic as albums. He also got fed gems later on like You're Da Man, Nas Is Like, One Mic, U Gotta Love It, etc. Keith has picked generic sounding sci fi beats for most of his career which has a lot to do with his level of exposure. To each his own but I don't think Keith really understands he's in the minority as far as beat selection goes.
Kool Keith Legendary Emcee ,nevertheless this Hyper interviewer didn't give him time to answer question what a dork he cut em off like 3 -4 times @ one point Doc Oc was like let me finish speaking ....
I wish the host had more patience. He's trying to steer the interview into this hype energy but comes off like a high school kid asking the next question before Kool Keith is even done. He's trying too hard. Let the legend speak and tell the story at his pace.
as a huge kool keith fan, i'll admit that's nas' major weakness, but let's think about 75-80% of keith's discography. trash production and low effort releases are a constant. i prefer quality over quantity.
Very true, I really like Kool Keith but gotta admit that so much of his releases are so mediocre and weak it tarnishes the real classics he has created.
i second that! hell i just wrote a bunch of ish saying the same thing. talk about trash beats....hell even the new octagon is a few hot joints but over all isn't shit compared to the first one....zzzzzzz
How the hell are you a "huge" KK fan if the majority of his releases you don't like? Keith has a certain sound and if you think it's trash then you obviously never made a beat in your life. He has always did what he wants to do after he got away from the major labels so obviously you don't know shit about Keith.
not even a comparison. think about nas' budget, and the producers he knows. theres no reason for his albums to suck as much as they do. kool keith has way more better albums than nas
Kool Keith's beat selection is pretty garbage imo. Nas from 94 to maybe The Lost Tapes is a pretty good collection of beats. The only one from his camp who got better beats was early Cormega.
Matthew, Half Shark-Half Alligator, Dr Dooom, Poppa Large, Ultra Magnetic, Kieth Korg, Black Elvis, Crazy Lou, Dr Seltzer, Mr Nogatco, Dr Octagon, Sinister 6000, Fly Ricky, Mr Green, Rhythm X, Kieth Turbo, Mr Gerbick. The host is not on point.
Why does every interview start at the beginning, not like it’s just this dude, every interviewer. It’s like origin stories, we know how Spider-Man got his powers, we don’t need to see him get bit by a spider again.
