As a flatbed truck driver these steel coils are easily one of the most dangerous things to haul. If not secured correctly it will roll in to the cab of the truck killing the driver just from stopping at a stop sign.
I bet that is a 8-10 hour shift. My guess is they have to unload the ship evenly, so it doesn’t cause a list. That crane operator is on his game. Those three coils came off the deck straight up. Those 3 coils are almost 100k lbs combined weight. I have unpacked (de-canned) thousands of these coils. Some nights we would slit over a million pounds of coiled steel in 8 hours. Got I don’t miss that!
@Ranch_ ok so its a 4 man job lets add 1 to swap out and give breathers. That still leaves 9 to stand around and draw a pay check. Yup typical union. Been to those union places. Now thats a brown straw you can't pick up a brown straw only black and if there arnt any brown you go stand and wait until there is. Cause if you do you are taken a union job away and thats 1 more union person that can stand around waiting in case their happens to be all black straws. I
