for anyone who was confused like I was: ㄴ= n sound ㄷ= d sound ㅌ= t sound ㄹ= falls somewhere between an L and R sound, kind of like a slightly rolled R hope this helps!
The first one in an N sound. ㄷ is a mix between D and T sounds but only a dull T sound like in "Tent" or "Token". ㅌ is a more emphasized T sound. Extra strokes mainly make the sound clearer :/
Skylar J mee too. you know i have a cousin who is starting his 1st yr in gradeschool and im always harsh on him whenever he cant read the sentences clearly and contiously. after i started learning korean, i got guilty from doing those harsh things to my cousin. (p.s., my cousin was given to us due to financial problem of his family.)
Skylar J ikr iam bilingual now my mother language is Arabic and i can speak, talk and write in english i combine the two languages and this makes learning korean much easier than expected
feeling way better than trying to learn Hirigana Katakana or Kanji because Hangul just makes sense (at least to this point, IDK what comes next) and Japanese writing just doesnt really make sense
luna98x actually even kanji make sense. I was studying Japanese and after a while I realised that kanji are created from other kanji and carry their meanings. For examble the kanji 好 (to like) is the kanji 女 (girl/woman) and 子 (kid), like a mom loves her child. Or the word 花火 (fireworks) that is 花(flower) and 火(fire)... So fireworks are flowers created by fire😍 I mean... It is rare to find a language with so beautiful hidden meanings... Korean at least have an alphabet that makes them easy to understand but... Agh the pronunciation is too difficult 😑
Thanks a lot. Your lessons are way more easy to learn Korean. I enjoyed it. Hope I can learn Korean quickly. I am doing this only for my BTS. I think BANGTAN TV don't upload subtitles because they wanted us to learn korean instead. I must thank them since they made me to learn Korean, which is one of the most beautiful languages in the world and I love it very much.
It's even worse for me. I speak a bit of Somali too. E isn't different, but c is way different in pronunciation because we do not have an equivalent in the alphabet to their deep throated "Uuu" sound.
This is it. Im trying my best to understand and learned how to write hanggul. Its really hard for me to study it but im trying my best. My bias is working hard so i must to the same. Thanks for your tutorial! Looking forward to learn soon^^
Nosebleed. Because im here wife we used to date in my dreams XD Lol. Because im his bias and i really love him. Nah. Baek can't see this don't worry hahaha.
Looking back it would have been a good idea for KC101 to point out the fact that ㄹ is pronounced like a "D" when in different positions in a syllabic block. That's why you heard her make a "D" sound for it some of the time. For new American English speakers learning here please know that the Korean character ㄹ is pronounced like an "L", "R" and or "D" depending on where it is in a syllabic block. The group of letters or characters in Hangeul (Korean) are called syllabic blocks. Each one represents a syllable as you probably guessed. lol. ㅋㅋㅋ. Good luck fellow learners. Keep practicing. Korean language can be almost as beautiful as Korean Women! Hope this helps. :-) Much love to you all.
@@Kim.cassie In this case she pronounced the Korean word for "us" and "we" 우리 "Oo-dee". Notice how the ㄹ sounded like a "d" in this case? To put it very basically, it is pronounced like a "D" sound when it is not the first or last character in a word or if it is in the middle of a word and another ㄹ comes before or after it. Like in the proper sentence form for the word for the Korean language 한국말을 "Han-gook-mah-deul". In this case it would seem that it should be written as "Han-gook-mahd-eul", but because of "Consonant Assimilation" the stronger sounding ㄹ "D" sound moves over and takes the place of the softer sounding "ㅇ" which is silent when it is first in a syllabic block. So what was 말을 "mahd-eul" becomes 마를 "ma-deul" because of "Consonant Assimilation". See how the "ㄹ" moved over and took the place of the "ㅇ" ? Hope this helps. Edit: Oh! Also it isn't represented correctly by "romanization". Romanization causes many mispronunciations! It's best to just listen to the sound for each Korean character and get familiar with the sound each Korean character makes.
court 마야 lol I know! It reminds me of how slow I was when I was a kid and I was first starting to learn how to read 😂. It's gonna take time but will make it
Also we thank you every single of you for such great words! Thank you for being with us for 2013 and wish you the best of 2014! Hope Korean would be your first new year's resolution!;) Team KoreanClass101,com
Learning Korean does happen to be my new years resolution but my friends dont think i will actually learn it. I'm glad you guys are here to help me prove them wrong ;)
me too... even my parents ! they are saying that I am wasting my time and I will never learn Korean ! Because of you guys I will show them that they are wrong ! thanks :)
I thought that learning Korean would be so difficult to learn but you make it so easy for me its been 2 days and ive learned so much!!! Thank you so much!
(no offence) I mean, I know where you're comin' from , but pls dont go everywhere spreading comments about bts when the vid is not related to it. its disrespectful and it makes our fandom look kinda dumb and immature =3= anyways love yall
How? Maybe I have memory loss or something. The only thing I can read and write is 마마무 because it’s Mamamoo. Don’t know what it means, but I know that spells Mamamoo
I honestly thought it would take me about a year to grasp Korean a little but to my surprise it's only been a few hours and I already can read some things, thank you so much! I'll continue watching your videos and study everything I've learned from them.
+Ember 777 ㄷ is more of a D sound while ㅌ is more of a strong T sound. ㄷ looks like a "D"oor, and ㅌ looks like a "T"ongue. Just a way to remember :D
Kelcey no the ㄱ means 'g' and the ㅋ means 'k' whereas the ㄷ means 'd' or 'dh' and the ㅌ means 't' or 'th'. Its not that hard once u get it in ur brain 😄

Yeah its easy but i got cofuse in sounds of words cuz in nepali/hindi language there are different letter for different sounds where as in korean hangul there are mostly one letter which produce different kinds of sound like 'ㄷ' gives the sound of d, dh,ta, th, and 'ㄹ' gives the sound of botha ra and la which makes me confuse in understanding the words.😅😅 But still i enjoy learning it 😊😊😊😊
these are really helpful, honestly. I thought it would be more complicated but I'm learning so much so quickly. Thank you for putting this out there for people that want to learn! ^^
I always over thought the ㄹ pronunciation and this video has made me realise its just like a rolled Scottish 'r' which I've been doing all my life! Thank you :))
I just started learning and I'm very thankful! I've come a long way and I feel like I'm actually getting somewhere! Plus, my knowledge of kpop and drama helped me guess the meaning behind some words and learn faster, so thank you for this series!
I'm hearing one thing and hearing another thing 🥺it's breaking my heart. It was easy at the beginning but now...😩😖I don't just get it😭. Anyways, I've started and I'm not giving up😊I'm learning Thanks Amy
Yes. Actually my mom looking at me like "what are you saying?" her eyes meant that and i said "it's korean hangul mom." then she just nodded and they said i was like a little kid.
u are an amazing teacher hana hana i have never know hw to read but in 2 hours only after i have watched 5 lessons with u i have became able to read ty ...
@@p-l-o-d-d-i-n-g.p-o-t-a-t-o it changes depending on the word and context and stuff but when it’s supposed to be this sound between an R and an L my tongue just gets confused. I can’t make the sound at all hah

@@archanamaurya8557 I am not .... anymore...... It's not r nor l ....like... it's just ㄹ You gotta pronounce it like almost r ..but twirling your tongue a little so it loses its rough texture...and sounds like l. That's why native Koreans sometimes pronounce real as leal... It is just like this..you have to grow adaptive with it....and practice and make it yours....best of luck....
Hey there! I'm new and I really love to learn a new language I chose korean because you are teaching beautifully. A lot of ppl said korean is hard but after I saw your lessons I disagree with them. Love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
I started learning Korean today. Did 5 lessons in one go, must say she is an amazing teacher!! The way the whole thing has been structured and taught, is helping me a lot. Also, giving examples of Korean words in between, helps me catch faster! So, thank you very much for this series, really appreciate it
Lmao I actually was like u when I start say it correctly I was like "OMG I REALLY REALLY CAN SPEAK KOREAN"😂 I guess most of the people who are learning Korean are here Cuz of bts and I'm one of them
Whenever I have difficulty with the pronounciation, the words she tells afterwards really help. I tried learning korean once before just for BTS but now it's easier to grasp since I also watch a lot of korean dramas now.
Learn Korean with KoreanClass101.com wow it’s really cool but most the the alphabets are sooo same and I love the intro and ending song in the video what is it called
This is SO much easier than Mandarin. It took me two hours to understand what Pinyin was and only half an hour of these lessons to have me being able to read a sentence already! Thanks so much :))
OMG U ARE MY LIFE SAVER I TRIED LEARNING AND DON’T ASK!!!!!!!!! ONCE I SAW YOUR VIDEOS I WAS ANLE TO READ KOREAN WITHOUT ANY FAIL IN LESSON 4 ITSELF THANK YOU❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

+Kaeri Hi Kaeri, Thank you for posting. We get this question quite often. We have lesson on our website dealing with this question: www.koreanclass101.com/2008/10/21/lesson-1/ Signing up is free, so please stop by and take a look! Best, Team KoreanClass101.com
Ik 😂😅 but " nugu" is who while " dugu" is where .. I actually write it like " nowgow " with light pronunciation to the w to distinguish ㅗ from ㅜ .. I relate them to English 😂💔
Hangul consonants are fairly easy to say and write. Once you learn the special cases for pronunciation for the special letter combinations and positions you can learn it in hours not days. The vowels are much more difficult to master because the English alphabet doesn't have the same sounds. The double letter combos are hard but doable.
Thank you so much! This is honestly the most helpful series I’ve ever watched! I’m really excited to learn. I’m getting this really easily and quickly. I think my problem won’t be reading the words. I think it’ll be actual vocabulary and learning what each word actually means. (And remembering it.) ;)
When u are 12 years old girl from Slovakia watching korean woman speaking in english teaching korean and u actually understand it and learn it😂😂 I am doing this just for BTS omg😂
I'm learning a lot, but I'm having a problem turning Hangul into English. I feel dumb saying that, but I really do. Like how do u get 이 to teeth? MY SMALL BRAIN CANT HANDLE THIS 😂😂
Don't think of it like that. Languages are not built to directly be translated to each other word for word. The same word in different languages can sound extremely different. Translating Hangul to English would be translating 이 to "ee" NOT teeth. Basically...You must get to the point where you see 이 and think of "ee" and you will simply have it stored in your memory that it means "teeth". You can't directly translate sounds from Hangul into a full word in English. You can only understand how it would be Romanized (written with the English alphabet) and then figure out what that Romanization means.
Dont think of it that way, to better understand it replace the word teeth with ee when u think of teeth then it just become normal since ur not think that 이ee MEANS teeth but 이ee IS teeth
Who's here for our BANGTAN BOYS!!!💜💜 Before learning Korean: Me: Korean is so easy. I can of course learn it!😏😏 After learning Korean: Me: Kill me!!ಥ‿ಥ But anyways I am gonna learn KOREAN! FOR BTSSSS💜💜💜💜💜💜
You'll find it super easy once you've tried learning chinese... you can't even learn to read it cause there are just so many characters.. You'll find that there are almost one character for one thing after a point... korean is way easier than chinese and japenese!
감사!!! I really love the Korean language and I am trying to learn it as best as I can. I am having a little trouble with pronouncing ㄹ, but I am trying my best. Thank you so much for helping! I love Korean class 101!
