What a sharp difference from the vulgarity and insincerity of gaming culture. I love it
@zettour.
@zettour. 5 лет назад
Well, gaming is suppose to be funny. That's why sarcasm is rampant and cursing is appropriated because it can be funny. It's like Korean Culture vs American Culture; Gaming Culture is just like any of those in that they are so different and you have to measure in different metrics. Even Korean birb says how saying your feelings would be rude in Korea whereas not saying your feelings is rude on America.

I was in the US Army in Korea. 2011 to 2013. We had Korean soldiers who are augmented into our units for many reasons. They wear our uniforms but have Korean rank. They are called KATUSA or "KOREAN AUGMENTED TO the UNITED STATES ARMY" They got paid very little. Often I would go out to lunch and bring my KATUSA friends with me. I would pay because I had only a cell phone bill and Internet for my barracks room so I had no problem doing so. I was told by one KATUSA that I was paid more as an E4 than their Sargent Major. Anyways, I would just ask about Korean history or culture. They would ask about my family and Texas (I am from Texas). I learned to read and write Korean and they helped me on many things. Especially understanding how to use the silent character in Korean. I miss them. Korea is a nice place. Nice people. I ended up dating a Korean girl and we got married. Been married almost 5 years now. The KATUSA soldiers helped me pick a gift for my wifes parents and helped me understand specific cultural problems I would encounter. I thank them so much for this. And yeah. Its common for Korean men to gush over girl groups. I dont blame them. Its just odd to see men in uniform do this by western standards but it was interesting seeing our differences. Also, the vast majority of Koreans I knew were kind but they also were quick to anger, or at least quick to say things along the lines of "I will knock your corn "teeth" out" or "do you want to die?" Hahaha. I miss that place.

I served as a KATUSA 2013~2015. Even now I regret that I didn't do such helping things to U.S. soldiers that you mentioned about. Being abroad is a lonely and mentally struggling experience especially when you know nothing about the cultrue and language. I could have done so much better to help them such as being a tour guide on weekends but I was such an introverted, egoisitc and young person. I was busy going back to my house whenever I had a pass.. Glad Korea had influenced your life in a good way. Lot of respects to KATUSA's that helped you.

I will say that a lot of the Korean players I have met in VRChat speak excellent English! I do always feel bad that I can't speak to everyone in different countries in their native tongue. It was very interesting to hear what it was like to serve in the Korean military. From what I know, because of North Korea, all those in South Korea have to do military service when they become adults.
@luminousflame122
@luminousflame122 6 лет назад
South Korea requires all of its male citizens to serve their country (guess why that happened). If one purposely evade the military duty, that means jail time. The duration for serving the country can be different from people to people depending on various situations but most of us end up serving in a military for more than one year and a half. The wage also varies by their situation but average person gets about $330 (352,331 Korean won) a month. And that is also the wage that has been increased by 88% in 2018. Basically we sacrifice one year and a half of our youth for the nation.

@Yeshua is Lord. Well I'll give you the possible perspective of the people themselves. They want to participate in protecting and serving their country in any way shape or form. But unlike in the US or other countries the hard thing about it is that it's mandatory for every male 18-28. To be honest I cna see where your perspective is coming. But they cannot just leave without local Korean troops. I may need to research more about why they did need it to be mandatory though. But I can fully understand the need for a 600k+ South Korean military troop because that is simply going to give them more measures, and you cannot expect for the only way to win a possible next war with NK and the world is just by bombing them straight up. It could be as easy as that can't it? No. But yes I can see where you mean that they are probably not necessarily going to do ground attacks, considering North Korea's possession of "ICBMs" or in general Nukes that can bomb Seoul right then and there. I wish that does not happen at all. And it's not like the whole Korean army is comprised of ground troop. There is Navy, air force, etc... edit:You are also massively underestimating the possible situation of soldiers in North Korea. They could be much stronger than you think and it isn't like every person and especially their troops are the same as the desheveled citizens you see in the common media. You would be much more-stupid to take the risk.

I'm korean, 19years, and I go to army next year, or 2022. As you know, Korea is a conscription country. Everyone with healthy body and mind goes to the army and carries out their military duties. so.. you know? Even now, dozens of deaths and victims are reported every year in the South Korean military because of training, some kind of accident or suicide. Perhaps the underlying cause is coercion due to conscription. Maybe that's why Korea's bad treatment of soldiers is also a reason. actually, Korean men my age are already pretty tired.They've already been beaten up in a competitive society, and they don't know what patriotism is, and the army is just forced to go by the country. and me too. There have already been so many incidents with North Korea that many people want to live in other countries. just ... Watching this guy in the video, I thought he was great, and I'm a little worried about my future. ... umm, My dream is to be a translator. Japanese translator. I've been into Japanese modern literature since middle school. I like Japanese very much. Now I've even gotten several Japanese licenses. like JLPT, or JPT. And if there's another wish, I want to take a pen, not a gun, for life after I've been discharged from the army. I know I look like a coward, but it's true that I'm scared about to take a gun. .... well, just what I think. thx for read.

A month ago, a 20-year-old trainee died at the training center of the 12th Division of the Korean Army. The cause of the incident was that a deceased trainee was caught by a female squadron leader while talking to his classmates, who told them not to talk and let them run indefinitely in 34 degrees Celsius. Other trainees reported abnormal conditions of the deceased trainee, but the female squadron leader told her not to talk nonsense and told her to keep running, and the trainee eventually died. After the death, the female squadron leader went on a two-week vacation, and the military and police deleted related data. Since then, the military has been controversial by announcing that the deceased trainee's fault lies with the trainee himself

it is extremly painful to end up duty in kor army (there is lots of reason) but the one of the sad thing is kor feminists are keep saing that 'its not a big deal' and they are thinking it just a picnic. also there was a advantage till the 90s (ex.2~5% car price discount) but kor feminists had eliminated that law now. so baisicly all korean young man thing that it futile and wasting time for 2 years.

so most of people dont want to go army. still there is three ways to dont go to army. 1. be disabled by themselves 2. be a very unhealthy man 3. when parents are fucken rich if have big power when they use mathod no.2or 3, then they will be a cob for 2 years and they 'commute'. its a huge advantage in addition, ine of the easiest way to use no.2 is be a fatass or be a skeleton. but u know, it is easyer to be fat then be skiny. so u can see very fat police in korea sometimes.

@@generichipster1888 that's a big generalization. I wouldn't call those kinds of women feminists. those women tainted the good name of feminism. feminism is the reason why most women get to attend school, vote and have jobs. Some countries are really lacking behind human rights, especially on their treatment of women. There are girls out there who actually did something to make a change instead of just sitting on their asses complaining about rights that they already have. This short film is perhaps one of Syrmor's riskiest. One of the more pertinent themes that I have derived from the subtext provided is a twist on anti-imperialism, or anti-military (industrial complex?). There are two "acts" to this short film: one that serves as an introductory tool, and one that drives the theme home. While the first "act" does not seem particularly relevant to the main theme on the surface, it is actually profoundly important to understanding it. One visual tool to use would be a river and its tributaries. One small river could fail to create a significant impact individually. However, once this river combines with others, it will form a devastating force. I believe that the first "act" serves a similar purpose to the focal theme of this short film. The first act, as previously mentioned, serves to introduce the characters, as is standard with most literature and film. However, I believe it also serves as a device to personify an individual that (in this short film) is representative of military organizations. The most overbearing stereotype of military individuals is hypermasculinity -- incredibly tall, muscular men with coarse language/voices and a deeply rooted sense of loyalty and patriotism (sometimes to the point of xenophobia). The subject of this short film, however seems to defy these stereotypes. His voice is not aggressive, he seems to be incredibly polite, and he even seems almost averse to learning even foreign swear words. The audience learns about the main character's interactions with foreign people and the pleasure he finds in learning similarities and differences in their expressions of their respective cultures. In general, he seems to defy some of the more potentially problematic stereotypes exhibited by your archetypal military individual. The first act is punctuated (and this ends) with the cameraperson asking the main character about their time spent in the military. This act provides the bulk of the message to this short film. The main character describes his nation's army as under-supplied and containing a sort of bleak optimism of having to "make do" with what they have. After initially learn about some of the bleak conditions of that respective military, Syrmor provides us with more introductory material to strengthen the humanity portrayed by the character (referring to the aforementioned "river" visual, one could imagine this as minerals from the tributary river mixing in with the larger body of water). Syrmor proceeds to tease the main narrative back into focus with the main character referring to innate violence in humanity. Towards the end of this short film, we receive the long-teased apex; all of the tributaries have finally merged into one mighty river. Our main character describes his experience with a comrade who ultimately and unfortunately passed due to disease. We learn that the passed comrade did not like the idea of being conscripted, but was inevitability brought into the armed forces. The main character describes how he visited his comrade's funeral because of some underlying guilt. This main theme presented in act two is a twist on the typical anti-military or anti-imperialist argument. There are several arguments that can be formed in alignment with some of the more typical themes, but I think there is one important message to be derived: not only does the presence of a military cause potential harm to civilians, it also causes harm to involuntary participants with no intention of harm. This departs from the criticisms that depict the military as a sort of monolithic, hypermasculine force of men. Furthermore, I believe that Syrmor departs from his typical use of "Tool" as a form of reference; instead, he contradicts a Tool theme. The song that Syrmor contradicts is Tool"s "Right in Two". From Tool's "10,000 Days" album, "Right in Two" refers to man's innate nature to be violent and territorial. One repeated message follows: "Monkey killing monkey killing monkey over pieces of the ground / Silly monkeys; Give them thumbs, they forge a blade /And where there's one they're bound to divide it". This message degrades humanity and flattens is multifaceted nature. Syrmor challenges this by providing us with a character with a large number of facets; one that many can relate to in some way. One might say that this short film is a rehash of themes that have been present since the dawn of war (and thus, the dawn of peace as opposition to war). However, I believe that Syrmor provides a new light to the movements against organized military and war. In the future, I hope that Syrmor continues to push the envelope. In doing so, he provides a means for which to expand the mind and its capacity.
