Yes, and there’s also a Korean girl ( youtuber) I forget her name who’s hair is very curly and she have videos about styling curly hair. Maybe they can show them that, so that they can see that there’s Korean mix or non mix women who have curly hair and how they style it.
Some women do wear wigs all the time to avoid discrimination and fit into beauty standards but it's also because it protects our hair since it's easy for it to break and not retain length if you leave it out regularly.
I was about to write the same thing. Our hair is really soft/light and breaks easily like imagine combing wool. Combing/styling it everyday weakens the follicles and results in damage. A few people have insecurities like every other race but too much manipulation causes breakage.
Just to clarify something. I can’t speak for all black women but a huge amount don’t wear wigs, and those who do probably don’t do it only because of racism but just because they don’t wanna straighten their hair and damage it. Also we can do many hairstyles with our natural hair curly hair, and many braided hairstyles. In my personal life it’s actually not common to see black girls wear wigs. Most I know do braids or natural hairstyles but it might just be those who surround me

At 6:29 when she said “she’s cute but I like the curly one better” As a black woman that got me emotional. Black women are so versatile, unique and beautiful in so many different ways. We love our heritage and our natural roots. Personally I rock both my natural hair and wigs depending on my mood. It’s such a gift to be able to change our appearance whenever we want
I had a black friend at work and sometimes I wouldn't recognise her because one day she'd have a blonde bob, the next long black straight hair, then her natural hair in an up style. It was impressive to me because I always had my same boring hair either worn down or in a ponytail.
@Flower7 that’s solely an assumption though. there’s no distinctive bone structural feature that can sum up the conclusion that someone is mixed especially bc that takes away from those who may be fully black and have those same features. you can only assume, which isn’t wrong but you can’t state it as obvious when rly there’s people that do look in her completion and have similar features yet still come from both full race black parents. i do understand what you’re saying but to call it obvious is dtm imo.
As another commenter said, although some people wear wigs to avoid racial discrimination, a lot of black women have started wearing their natural hair to regain that confidence and strength. We also use wigs as a protective style because while other races can do things with their hair daily, it would cause breakage and damage for us. so we tend to braid our natural hair up and put on a wig, or get different styles such as box braid, crochets and many others to keep our natural hair from getting damaged. we have so many different styles it’s crazy, but the main point of difference is that we also have many different textures. I’d love to see them react to how our hair can go from short to long just by combing it out because of the shrinkage we experience.
I don’t think most black women in America wear wigs because of hair discrimination, I think most wear it because they like to wear it, it’s trendy, etc. It’s also a protective style, as you said. I’m not really sure I would like wearing a wig though, I’m black but I feel like it wouldn’t fit me; even though I quite like it sometimes.
@@rainberry2159 I think it's both! While you're right that a lot of them who wear it because it's trendy, it's also because a lot of black women experience workplace discrimination. For a lot of us, it's seen as unprofessional to have our natural hair out. And while this is changing and there are companies that are doing better, there are far, *far* too many that don't. Not to mention texturalism still exists, which is sad that it's still happening.
@@chocolatemilk7722 To be honest, I’m not really sure with the idea that when a black woman puts on a wig it’s because of she’s afraid of necessarily that. I do think it happens, but not as frequently as it used too. I do agree with the the other part, I didn’t really realize but I ended up realizing that a lot of people preferred lighter skin than dark skin. Not necessarily white, but just light-skin girls. Some guys would just say it was a “preference”, and IMO I wouldn’t really care if it genuinely was just a “preference” but a lot of times it isn’t.

I think it'd be cool to see 4a, 4b, and 4c hair styling and black girls doing light or alternative makeup as well. Also black women wear wigs just for fun, or to try new looks, in addition to wanting to protect our natural hair or because of discrimination.
Well until I learned how to do my own hair I wore wigs because it was easier but now I spent thousands on products and tools and I’ve been doing my own hair once per week
Wigs are just a scapegoat for women. Sad reality. Wigs are for Halloween and clowns. You shouldn’t rely on them to look pretty because it’s not your real hair.
Styling isn't a problem when it comes to our hair. To be honest, we can do so many hairstyles and everything because of our curls. One day my hair can be straightened, the next day I can have it in a big fro, some braids, some ponytails and so on. I can shape my hair into different shapes. I can walk around with my hair in a cube shape like Garnet from Steven Universe lol. Anyway, all I'm trying to say is our hair is very diverse and versatile and although it may take some time (because it does take a while to take care of it properly) we can do so many things to our hair.
Black women are gorgeous all on their own. I mean, every single woman out there in the world have their own unique beauty. I firmly believe that real beauty is found within us.

i’m not black but from what my black friends have said before, i’m pretty sure trying to style and maintain their natural hair all the time can be extremely time consuming compared to using wigs, and sometimes more costly. (depending if you go get your hair braided by someone else, i heard prices are getting outrageously high but that’s besides the point lmao)
Maintaining natural hair really doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming. All you really need is a lot of moisture, a solid wash routine, and some good styling products. Some women just don’t wanna deal with their natural hair but that doesn’t mean it’s hard to do. Braiding definitely gets expensive so I just do them myself

@@pinkiepiereincarnate2291 well I figured out to get it down to less than an hour but that's because I don't do a lot of extra steps (pre-poo and stuff like that) and I'm not saying this as somebody with loose curls that are easy to get through, I have extremely dense and coarse kinky hair. natural hair has been overcomplicated over the years so people think it's hard. Iamblackgirlcurls has been an awesome source of making it quicker and easier to do our hair.
As someone that has been natural for about a decade it’s not that costly or time consuming once you know what you’re doing. Unfortunately, a lot of BW grow up not even knowing their real texture bc of relaxers and when they go natural they look at all these videos thinking they need a million products when you don’t. People like to believe our hair is SO difficult but it truly isn’t. I can detangle and style my natural hair in 45 mins to an hour and YES I have type 4 hair. As a collective BW are still learning when it comes to our hair, but I never like to feed into the narrative that our hair is some kind of burden because it isn’t. I can style my hair just as effortlessly as anyone else because I love and accept my texture.
I think with curly hair you have more options of styling than with Occidental hair. 5:00 Black women wearing wigs because they can, they’re so good looking with wigs and also it’s a protective hair style.

It's not that we don't have a lot of hair style options with our natural hair, that just isn't true. Wigs are a protective style and braiding your real hair and putting a wig on top for a few weeks is better for our hair than doing a different hair style every day.

What is so commonplace or known to us can be new to you, so it’s always interesting to see you all experience it and your thoughts as well. Her hair is not "calm" now, it's just styled to be straight. Just because our hair texture is not straight doesn't mean it's out of control. It's just a different texture of hair. It can be controlled just like any hair; we just use different techniques that work for our hair type like other hair types use different techniques.
The styling of baby hair/edges is actually something that black women have always done, but recently, other groups of people have been partaking in it. Also, the wigs are usually done for protective reasons, or to allow the hair to rest for a while. But yeah, great video as always 💯
We have many options for hair... that is why we wear hair braids, wigs , weave or anything that catch our fancy and it allows our natural hair to grow. It protects our real hair

As a coily haired woman, I do not usually wear wigs. I do, however, wear protective styles like box braids or cornrows because leaving my hair out all the time, especially in the conditions (climate) I live in, would make it easy for my hair to break. I love this kind of content because it gives others the opportunity to experience black women's features in a positive light. Thank you guys so much for this.
Just to be informed, we black girls don’t wear wigs because of discrimination but because we want to and not because of others and it protects our hair in a way. I loved how they were so not happy that people disregard our 4c hair, it shows they care
Not completely true. Don't take this the wrong way... But you can only speak for yourself. There are a lot of black women in America that HATE their hair. We have been taught that "black is ugly, afros and tight curl patterns are ugly" because it isn't associated with the European standards. But I will say, we are definitely getting better and embracing our natural God given beauty
I have definitely wore fake hair for discrimination reasons. Growing up I thought having relaxed hair was proper because kinky hair is put down so much.
Like the other comments said, it’s not always the case. I’ve seen little girls get suspended from school for wearing their natural hair or told they have to cut it or straightening it because it’s a distraction to other students. Even though it’s braided sometimes they still get in trouble and said it’s not acceptable. Some jobs won’t hire sometimes if you are wearing a certain type of style, for example; locs, because it doesn’t look professional.
When I was in high school, I woke up at 4 in the morning to straighten my hair. It was a two hour long process. I really enjoyed this video. Love to see more, specifically about natural hair styles.

As a black woman, in my personal experience I wear wigs as a protective style. Curly hair, especially type 4 hair is more fragile/prone to breakage than straight hair so we have certain styles that tuck our hair away so that it isn’t constantly manipulated (constant brushing/ combing or using heat on the hair) or exposed to the elements. Those styles are called protective styles. A few examples of protective styles black women wear are wigs, box braids, passion twists, faux locs, etc. Also we don’t really wear wigs for more styling options, curly hair is VERY versatile, for example I could straighten my hair bone straight right now, decide I want my curls back and just spray it with water and the curls would come back. It is true that we do receive discrimination and criticism for our hair but I think the world is slowly changing and getting becoming more educated about our hair texture. Its cool y'all are learning abt black hair but I just wanna calrify that most black women don't wear wigs because we are discriminated against, wig is like a hair accessory to us. We usually wear them when we are tired of styling our hair or braiding it.

As a woman who has curly hair, I always get uncomfortable when I get asked to touch my hair when I wear it naturally out. I get weird looks from others as well. I used to wear my hair freely for a long time as a youth, but now, I wear it in low ponytails, wear a bandana, or perm my hair so it’s straight and easier to work with. Sometimes it’s really hard because of people discriminating against people with curly hair. I can’t control it.
As a black girl I don’t wear wigs and we have soooo many styling options. Some girls find it easier to wear wigs bc it’s less time consuming than wearing their natural hair. I wear braids a lot which can take 4-6 hours to do plus it’s expensive. Wearing my natural hair out can be time consuming maintaining it everyday so I prefer braids. The curly hair world is such a big world!
Let's also acknowledge that baby hairs are pironnered by Black and Latina women who have been wearing it like that LONG before kpop girlies decided to appropriate it 💅✨

wearing wigs is to sometimes avoid discrimination but most of the time it's because our natural hair is a lot to take care of and we need to protective hairstyles like wigs and braids for convenience as well as to keep it healthy and prevent damage.
My routine is exactly the same as the girl who went from curly to straight. I've always wanted to embrace my curly coily hair but I grew up with the females around me always flat ironing their hair. Even though it takes alot of time, it's a process that many females with that type of hair go through. I personally think that regardless of natural or synthetic. The girls look beautiful either way💙

Black hair is extremely versatile 🤎 So we actually don't need wigs for versatility. 2. Wigs are not just to escape discrimination, nor are they only used as protective styles. They're fun!! 😍 Black women wear wigs for all types of reasons, but many of us just love them b/c we can have any color, length & style on any given day! How cool is that, right? 🥰 3. When the red haired girl put a scarf on her head after straightening it & wrapping it- that is how we black women protect our hairstyles. One of the ladies in the video commented correctly that with wigs, wearing a scarf "sets" our edges. We also do that with our natural hair if we do baby hairs. But the scarves that go on our whole head lock in moisture, keep our hairstyle in place, protect our hair from snagging (on pillows, couches, etc), stop frizziness (to an extent), & keep our hair from getting messy while we sleep. Also, if we go outside, it protects our hair from humidity. 🤗 4. Lol! Our eyes don't get tired & don't experience any pain with heavy lashes 💕 5. It can take quite a while to do our hair sometimes. But other times it can be 2hrs & we're out the door- depending on the hairstyle & of our hair "behaves" lol 6. When we wear wigs- some people style it for only a day's use, but typically when it's glued down, we're keeping it on for a couple days or as long as we can keep it on 😂 Thanks for the cool video, ladies! 💕 Love from America!
Curly hair has a variety of styling options. We wear wigs for a change of look and most importantly as a protective hairstyle. I.e to protect our natural hair, allow it to rest and retain our hair length.
black women don’t have “curly hair” they have kinks and naps, which is why they hide it under wigs and weaves 24/7. mixed girls are the ones with pillow soft curls.
Like others said black women wear wigs also as a protective style to give your hair a break. There are also a number of black women like me though who wear wigs when they feel lazy or when they know they won’t have much time during the week to constantly do their hair everyday.
I think the time has come for OSSC to react to Brazilian things like noss funk, or pop-funk. As an indication we have Anitta (Blackpink presented at the VMAs), we have Luísa Sonza that Stayc has already covered. In addition to drag queens Pabllo Vittar and Glória Groove. I think it would be great content for the channel because the culture shock is huge.
The artists in question also participate in the LGBT community, showing the diversity and freedom of artists who are always asserting themselves in society and showing how liberating art is. The girls show the feminine freedom of being able to do and be whatever they want, and the drag queens fight for the space of representation in the musical environment.
They’re wrong on the not many styling options, there’s an abundance of styles It’s more so to protect their natural hair, wear wigs so we don’t have to manipulate our natural curls/coils or damage them. Or to just wear one for a new look, Eg: instead of dying my hair a colour I like, I’ll just get a wig that colour, saves me from hair damage
My granddaughters are all beautiful with their natural look, but when they want to pull off a different style I'm always surprised when their curls disappear. Love my babies.
The reason why us black girls wear wigs or straight our hair cause jobs and beauty standards, back in the early days black peoples can’t get jobs because of our hair, and mostly the society called us “nappy” “messy” ect
As a black girl and a hairstylist i would say black girls wear wig not how curly our hairs looks but hair extensions have been part of our culture for centuries. Braids especially are time consuming and amusing ( google ancient black hairstyles). It’s distracting because you can spend a whole year trying to figure out how we do braids. Especially in Asian countries, a lot of people stop and stare some ask a lot of questions and makes them wonder. They hate seeing us wearing(especially office/professional spaces) it because it’s glamorous and all attention would be on our hairstyles.
This is super wholesome. A perfect example of learning the differences between cultures, without jumping to judgement. And appreciating the work and skill that we all as women put into our appearance. Especially taking into account the stigmas against Black women . This was really enjoyable to watch as a Black woman.

Something that i haven't seen mentioned yet but i realized as a black girl is that not many people are actually attracted to girls with curly/kinky hair. So, along with what other comments are saying and what was mentioned in the video there's that too. But indefinitely it's up to the individual and there shouldn't be any judgement to what a black woman decides to do with her hair
Wearing wigs is also for convenience. Taking of afro hair takes a lot of time a day if you plan to do hair style with your natural hair only. When you got your weave you don’t spend much time doing your hair. You just put it on and move. When for afros even if you want to do a slick bun it would take some time (depending on your experience and also type of hair)
I’ve never worn wigs because it’s easier to wear and style my natural hair but I have mad respect for girls who can do installations😭 it looks like a lot of work

As a black woman, y’all my hair is dam near to my waist AND I AM NATURAL. Let’s be real here, I don’t like combing my hair 😂😂. Just washing it is time consuming. Having to pre-poo, wash, condition then deep condition for 30 minutes to an hour. Then turn around and spend another 1 combing it. No ma’am, we love our natural hair. We just don’t want to comb it yall
Also, not all black women ascribe to hair protection, braids , heavy make up, wigs, baby hair, goop in our hair or face lifestyle though it may seem that way on the internet.
I loved this video. I love that they thought the ladies looked professional and stylish because black women celebrities often had to do their own hair and makeup on movie sets and such because professionals in those fields were often just NOT taught how to do our hair and makeup.
Also there is a lot we do to help maintain our hair depending on the weather. Often our worst nightmare is humidity if you live in a hot area near water
I’ve luckily never had much discrimination for my hair and I wear it in all sorts of colors and styles now. However growing up it was always manipulated in a way where I had no idea what it looked like truly curly. Not in a braid or twists or straight. Times have changed a lot and I love these women for being kind to us as a whole.
This is cool and all, and I appreciate the exposure that these girls are getting, however I really would like to see more types of black women on your channel. There are the anime black girls, the bookish black girls, the emo black girls, the girly black girls, there are so many different types of black women, and showing a video like this without showing them the other types of black women, just kinda reinforces the stereotype us black women have been fighting to break for so long. I live in a very white town or city, in South Africa, so I wear a wig to prevent discrimination at my work place and when going out with friends. But overall it protects my natural curly hair. Also, funny enough, my natural hair when straightened is quite long (passes my shoulders). I love my natural hair more than anything but it is too time consuming

As a black girl myself I ain't go lie, I find those big ass eyelashes to be very ugly.... They don't look bad in it AT ALL but yk... Natural eyelashes just make them look even finer than norm
It's difficult to fully observe us accurately coming from a different culture. For example, we have plenty of style options for our natural hair that weren't showcased. A few things expressed weren't completely correct, but many of my fellow sisters have already pointed this out in the comments. Thanks for the spotlight!
as someone with 2A hair, watching the routines of those with much curlier/kinkier hair-types is really intriguing to me. i find those hair textures to be so beautiful and versatile.
Just setting this straight; We don’t wear wigs cause we don’t have variation in style, in fact, we can probably do our hair in more styles than straight hair. Some wear wigs to avoid discrimination, others wear it cause they want to. Personally, I wear out my natural hair but if I want to protect my hair, I add extensions for a protective style.
As a black female most women wear wigs as a protective hairstyle for hair growth. The hair underneath is typically braided, it’s not bc we don’t have options we have plenty sis
Hairstyles for black women can take anywhere from 1hour to several days 😂 I’m not even exaggerating. And getting locs to mature can take months-years 😅
We wear wigs for many reasons. As protective styles so that we don't have to manipulate our curly hair. So that we don't have to be bothered with combing it every day because it's difficult to manage. Because we want to have different styles without damaging our natural hair. To assimilate and blend into society by avoiding discrimination. Or just Kaz we wanna be trendy. Some wear wigs because of hair loss. It's not just because of discrimination and racism.
It would be cool to see the black girls that wear their natural kinky coils and curls out. Not all of them wear euro centric or asiatic hairstyles on a daily basis.
