As a licensed beautician, the only thing I found inaccurate in this video was the advising against exposure to water. We use water in service to rinse the neutralizer and perm solution from the hair you absolutely can get your hair wet after getting a perm, but do NOT shampoo or condition. Water itself will not break the new structure bonds the perm service created as we need to use water to rinse it off anyway. Shampoo however absolutely can negatively effect the longevity and set of a perm if done too soon. You can definitely shower the next or even same day of the perm, but do not actually wash the hair. Shampooing should be done at miminum 48-72 hours after the perm. But water itself by nature is fine
@kristielewis4825 I'm gonna guess if shampoo hurts the perm- than chlorine would be bad too, kinda like people who bleach their hair can't swim in chlorine, --- pretty sure.
For after perm care, best to ask your hair stylist. Different styles and different compounds have different durations. I used to have to wait 3 days before my hair stylist switched to something else and then I only needed to wait a day
So this is kind of an opposite reaction to most people, but thank you for making this video because it made me decide to NOT get a perm. I wanted to just check the care that would come with a perm and I'm glad I did some research first before impulsively getting it. Your video gave me a lot of insight into the time and effort it takes to maintain a perm and made me realize I am not willing to add more products or spend more time on my care routine (at least for now lol).
@@mouthdestroyer8847 Wait...what? I didn't know I had the ability to cut hair after 7 years....TF are you on? Don't you think I cut my hair in 7 years? I'm saying my hair was never the same after the perm, grown out, cut, treated, etc.
@@smoothie6101 So the texture of my hair changed forever, even after cutting and growing it out. My hair used to be on the "silky" side and now it's more rough/brittle/frizzy? It's back to being mostly straight now of course after years of growing it out but I'll still have stragglers that are just curly (not the well defined curls kind) and yeah while I loved the look of perming my hair and the volume it gave-it really damaged my hair entirely in the end so I would be very cautious.
i showed my barber inspiration and everything for this perm and he ended up giving me a curly hair perm and told me by the time i wash it it’ll loosen up and be wavy, and that just isnt the case its way too curly and im pretty upset man idk what to do such a waste of money
@@BaoNguyen-mi4je i just went back to the hair salon and they relaxed my hair for me, its not perfect my hair at its root is too straight for my liking but its better than it was when it was very curly
Appreciate your content man. I have pretty straight and weak hair kind of like how you described your natural hair. But I'm caucasian-hispanic and was wondering if there are any things I should keep in mind when trying a Korean perm
I'm too afraid to do any perm or even color my hair. It is evident that perming damages the roots and may cause hair loss (or even balding) as we age. I'd love to try this but I'll wait until they have better safer perm formulas.
The scalp shampoo/scrub caused more flakiness than without it :/ not sure if im doing something wrong Or maybe the perm just caused excessive dryness of the scalp to begin with :/
Yessir thanks Cedric, perfect timing, i just had my hair permed for the first time two days ago. After the 3 days of no touching your permed hair, do you wet your hair every time you shower? How often do you use shampoo and conditioner per week?
The first time I got a perm the curls were too tight and the stylist when in with a relaxer which worked like magic so definitely let them know if that happens to you!
@@_kurjalayea but doesn’t it cause permanent damage to your hair and may cause balding/hair loss? That’s what I’ve heard from a lot of ppl. I have an appointment to do it on Sunday but now that I’m hearing the negatives of doing it I’m just thinking of calling it off. What do you think will it actually damage my hair or not?
Thank you for such helpful tips! I was wondering how often would you advise washing hair after the first 48-72hours? Also, how often do you apply curling cream, hair protectant…. Do you use those products daily? What if you end up using hair spray etc. then do you wash them out at the end of the day?
I'm getting a perm soon! what is your natural hair type? mine is very fine and straight and I don't have a lot of hair either. I'm trying to find a shampoo that won't weigh my hair down after the perm but also helps maintain the curls. Do you feel Bumble and Bumble weigh your hair down?
Cedriccccc thank you so much for this content bro! Well made and edited video clean af. I had a question though! Do you wash your hair with shampoo and conditioner everyday? Or is it like every other day etc.
Hey bro. I tried the hearty after shower combo with miss jessie’s but it didn’t mix well and it leaves white stuff in my hair. Do you have the same problem? Thanks
Appreciate the video! I just got my first perm ever a few days. How often do you shampoo your hair after your perm? Do you use any products like dry shampoo to clean the scalp? I read online it's once a week but my natural hair is also pretty oily and I usually shampoo it atleast 3 times a week before the perm lol. Thanks Cedric
I used to think my hair would get too oily without washing it every day, but the whole time I had a perm I was only washing it every week or so, and now that my perm grew out and was cut off, I'm still only washing my hair once a week-ish and only need it more if I've weighed it down with styling products. Basically, I think I believe the school of thought that says the more you wash your hair the more your scalp produces oils, since I broke that pattern, my scalp isn't overproducing oils anymore
i just got my 3rd perm yesterday and was researching a bit into finding the right products to use with a perm (previously i just used olaplex but wanted a change this time around) and stumbled upon this video! i wanted to say thanks but also leave a suggestion: could you list the products in the description with the links as well? just a little more convenient and helpful. other than that, it was a great video and really entertaining!
Also if someone is a swimmer and can’t avoid chlorine exposure what would be some good advice about maintaining hair health (swim cap and leave in conditioner etc?)
how often do you shampoo and condition your hair? i work out almost every day and end up sweating a lot T_T i also hate going to bed feeling dirty. any advice on this?
Hey Bro, i’m new to the channel (came from tik tok) but i was wondering what you do for skin care. i got acne scars from accutane and some texture I was wondering if you had recommendations for products?
What kind of haircut do you get? Please tell me because my hair is your length and I’ve been struggling to find a good style. Please more detail the better 😭😭
if only id seen this video sooner, i decided to re perm my hair one month after getting it initially because it was starting to lose its shape, the salon didn't tell me it would damage it, they just did it, mostly my fault but still, i didn't know how to take care of it at all
Hey, I have a question. I recently got a perm in Korea, and the barber gave me a hair curler. He told me to use it only after my hair was completely dry from the blowdryer, almost to the point where all the curls were gone. However, I found online that most people recommend using a curler when your hair is damp, not completely dry. In the videos I saw, they used a curling cream that looked like gel, but the one my barber gave me looks exactly like whipped cream. Could this difference in the product be why the instructions are different?
So when your straight hair roots come in, do you still use after a shower curl cream, and curl styling cream before applying spike glue and hairspray? And then with applying hairspray everyday, is it recommended to keep the hairspray in or just shower and remove it at the end of the day? Because I know it’s not good to wash your hair everyday with shampoo
good questions i wash my hair with water everyday just not shampoo and conditioner. I try to minimize the amount of hairspray and spike glue that goes in my hair so i usually put in the curl cream and styling cream at night and wake up with curly voluminous hair. if i want to look good for an event or going out i will use the spike glue and hairspray. i use the styling cream and bb 10 in 1 cream (especially this one because its for all hair types) to make sure my hair is styled in the way i want and healthy even in the straight hair comes back in and i have half a perm. hope this helps :)
Have you tried using the Bumble and Bumble Defining Bumble cream? How does it compare to Miss Jessie's Soft Jelly Curls? Is one lighter than the other?
Do you shower daily? Like I mean allow ur hair to get wet or wear a shower cap so the water doesn’t touch ur hair. Is it safe to just allow water to touch ur hair daily?
tresemme is so bad for your hair btw and contains a lot of parabens that aren't good for permed hair. you should not wash your hair for at least 24 hours and then wash it out after. whilst I understand not washing your hair for 3 days, works for you, it's also super damaging. in vest in some cantu cream for your hair as well as it retains curls very well and is also super moisuturising for your hair
only downside would be that you would need a reperm faster than others because the oil promotes hairgrowth and if ur a naturally straight hair type then it would not look all the same
when I got my first Korean perm it fell out in a matter of hours, so I called the stylist and she said come back next week so i went the next week and it fell out again but after a week. plus i followed a lot of these steps. so I dont know if I'm doing something wrong or the stylist
honestly i feel like its the stylist, if you followed these steps. my hair is super weak and out of everyone i know my perm fades the fastest. even then, because i followed these steps, my perm lasts a while. it could be the salon you are going to because i noticed by going to different salons, the solution and technique vary causing my perm to fade a month earlier than normal if i dont go to a good place
My head can get very sweaty and oily for no reason even when I stay at home all day. Will the oil affect its potency in those first 72h no water period?
Question, how often do you wash your hair? I normally just wash it with water everday and only use shampoo and conditioner every 3 days. Also, how often do you use the styling gel?
is it normal to lose stands of hair everytime shower? also should i shampoo/conditioner everyday? i was recommended by my barber to use nioxin system 1. my barber does blowdry after perm but just to style it- is there anyway around it next time instead of blowdrying it?
Getting my hair permed for the first time this week. The salon I’m thinking of going to offers cold perms ($125) and digital perm ($225) so which one is better?
I just got a perm again after being almost half a year clean of perms! One thing that I noticed is that my stylist washes my hair again once the perm is complete and blow drys to style it. Is this hurting my perm? (I do feel like he curled extra to compensate for what my hair would look like after washing twice)
its fine if they wash it out, they have to wash it out a little otherwise there will be too much chemicals. but there is still some in your hair left over. i usually tell them not to blowdry my hair cuz they only do that for styling
@@cedricpham I was also wondering why my stylist combed and blowdried my hair after perming it. I guess his thought process was to take out some of the curls (it was a bit tighter than what I asked for initially) and structure it based on his vision. When I re-perm, do you recommend I ask him to skip this step? I got the perm done yesterday so still waiting to see how it looks after I wash it.
yea next time I would just say to not comb or blow-dry after they take the solution out. they do it to style the perm in the way you will like it. if you don't have them do this though its gonna be pretty thick and noticeable
What did you ask for when you got a permn because most stylist probably won't know what kind of korean perm you want when you just ask for a korean perm? Pls help i really want your hairstyyle
I got the Fenty moisture repair shampoo and conditioner and then Briogeo Curl Charisma for leave on and then Pattern curl mousse... are these good products for first time permed hair?
Y’all don’t waste your money on a perm that barely has any waves 😭😭 just use a curl cream and scrunch a lot and it’ll look like that or even more wavier
In some of his replies he says he washes his hair with water everyday, and does the bb 1-10 and miss Jessie's soft curl cream every night, whereas for shampoo and conditioning he does it "Every other day or more". Not exactly sure if "Or more" means more often than every other day, or more time inbetween like 3 days, but I'd say every other day is the safe bet. Hope that helps.
I just got my korean perm today, for reference, it costed $120 including a cut excluding tip. I’m worried about a couple of things my stylist did: he ONLY allowed 30 minutes to let the chemicals set in, after which, he WASHED my hair (i’m not sure if it’s with soap or not) then he BLOW-DRYED it. Is this normal procedure for a korean wave perm? I just followed him since it was my first time but looking back, I wished if I asked him if I could’ve just left after the chemicals set in. What do you guys think?
nvm, I take this back…i’ll leave the post tho if anyone wants to add anything…i asked chatgpt and it said it’s standard to rinse out the chemicals afterwards…also, about the time, chatgpt said 15-30 mins is standard which I’m not too sure is true…the blow drying of hair was not supposed to happen tho; i hope my perm duration isn’t shortened by this
