I made this last night for my family and let me tell you!!! My parents enjoyed it so much till they were sucking the bones clean! The pork neck bones become so tender and the broth is so flavorful. Please try your best to get the perilla seeds, they really do add a yummy nutty flavor to it. I ordered mines from Amazon but I got a bag of perilla seed powder instead of the seeds. I also cut back on the amount of red pepper powder flakes that was used because I like spicy food but not too spicy. Thank you Seonkyoung for such a great recipe. You make your recipes so easy to do at home. One day I'll be able to go and visit Seoul. But until then I'll continue making your recipes at home. Try this recipe everyone!! You won't be disappointed! :D

Ebony i want to make this for my family. My husband and i love spicy but my children are ok with some heat but not a lot. When you cut down on the pepper flakes is it tolerable for people who dislike spicy food?
@lisahinton9682

@Ebony Arnold Uhhh, "mines"? Do you mean "mine"? "Mines" is not a word. Well, it is, but it means "the plural form of 'mine'" (the thing you get precious metals, gems, and coal from).

@@lisahinton9682 i know right? They speak in ebonics which is lazy talk. They don't pronouciate theur words correctly. It's laziness, plain and simple. The dumbing down of the schools is to blame for this.

Thank you so much! I love this soup so much and I get cravings for it all the time. Now, I can make my own version with less spice because my poor taste buds always hate me after eating spicy foods. I tried this today and my family loved it. Be safe and take care Seonkyung-ssi.

This... This has to be my absolute favourite Korean dish of all time, and I love eating it whenever I get a chance.. (which isn't much.) I am super thankful to have discovered your channel today, and I am going to try to cook more dishes like this in the future, and when I get a chance. My question is, do I have to grind the Perilla seeds? I remember eating Gamjatang in Calgary in a place called "Don Day", and they had the seeds whole. I loved it 'cause they just popped in your mouth, and it was a great flavour. Thank you so much again for your channel!

I've made this twice in 1 week! Thank you for putting ingredients under the description box and link to written recipe as well. Follow this recipe and you will be rewarded with delicious, authentic tasting gamjatang. One tip is you can actually go up to 4.5lb of pork neck bones for this recipe. Given it does take some time. Why not make lots. Personally for hearty appetites I feel doubling it allows people to get enough meat. Especially of your pork necks are not as meaty. Wild sesame seeds is a must. She provided an amazon link. It's hard to find, even at local asian grocery stores. Sesame powder is more widely available, which I feel is a good substitute

Used to eat this w friends when I was stationed in South Korea. We loved it every time. Our Korean friends told us it’s also called “Hangover Soup”! Which made sense because the restaurant was super busy on weekend late nights after people drank at the many Soju stands. Now I can’t find it back in the states. Bummers, but thank You for this video. 🇰🇷
