Taekwondo is an umbrella term. Chung Do Kwan Taekwondo was created in 1944 as one of the primary forms of combat for Korean servicemen. It was brought over in the early 60s, late 50s and was EVENTUALLY taught to servicemen serving in Vietnam (ask them how well it was used as the Vietcong were afraid of the Koreans). It's now used as a sport, but there are some of us who effectively use it as a Martial Art against both thugs and other Martial Artists.

@ROOTSOFCOMBAT2 Yeah, the jumping and head breaking was for demonstration here. In regular training, it's just part of conditioning the body for contact and versatility in movement. You may never have to jump in a fight, or head butt someone, but it's good to have it in your back pocket. That's the line of thinking, anyway.

Talented group of guys. I'd be interested to see these group of men battle Thailand Muay Thai fighters. These guys seem hardcore enough for the challenge. A great man once said ,"boards don't hit back".

Great Demo team!!! So talented! It's funny how he fell back into a Front Fall, after that side kick (1:17)! He should fall with a Back Fall after that kick. Demo teams are funny that way.

Impressive breaking , though i dont see what jumping up in the air and hitting them with your head has any correlation between military combat, the drills were relitivly relistic though its nice to see TKD in a relistic setting

@Eduboteo: you're very funny! Many militaries do demos or fighting competitions. They're for increasing awareness and good will, not demonstrating the actual techniques they use in war. That would be like judging NBA players from their performance at the All Star Game or Slam Dunk Contest! BTW, I don't think "firegun" is a word... the word is either "firearm" or "gun". A "firegun" would be a gun that shoots fire??? Then that would be a "flamethrower". Is that what you meant? Even funnier!

can someone explain me why they jump back in fighting stance like that? I think that a really nice chance for the opponent to sweep their legs while landing.... Sometimes i am just totally confused by TKD, because its a really new kind of martial arts, so why do they integrate such techniques with the knowledge of today? Nobody still fights like in the 15th century...

+강신관 Hi , in my opinion TKD is too much destroyer for fighting i paractice TKD and i saw peaople who can break legs or bones just with leg's , all martial art is good in fighting , just have a good teacher and good basics learns . thanks :)

@Chair6220

In Taekwondo, jumping back into a fighting stance after executing a technique serves multiple purposes and is a common training method. Despite its appearance of vulnerability, it has practical benefits. Firstly, it allows practitioners to swiftly counter any potential attacks from their opponent by quickly regaining a defensive position. Secondly, it creates distance, making it harder for the opponent to follow up with immediate attacks. Additionally, jumping back provides a burst of movement, enabling practitioners to strategically reposition themselves, change the distance, or set up for a different attack. Moreover, it carries a psychological advantage, showcasing confidence, control, and agility, potentially influencing the opponent's mindset. While Taekwondo has evolved and incorporated modern knowledge, it still retains elements from its historical roots, blending tradition, sport, and self-defense techniques to develop well-rounded martial artists.

Thats not necessarily true. Both Taekyon and Subak have long standing histories, so much in fact that Taekyon is the only martial art in the world that is recognized as a cultural artifact by UNESCO. There may be elements that were transferred over from the Japanese during the occupation, but keep in mind that the Japanese originally got a great deal from Chinese martial arts, and the original Chinese martial arts have their roots in Indian systems. (Which is also a debated topic, by the way).
