I do not think the vendor was trying to overcharge by tricking you guys. I think there were miscommunications and some counting errors on both parties. Rest assured, Korea does not overcharge foreign tourists as they do in other countries like in Southeast Asia. And the best part about Korea when it comes to spending is that all the taxes and tips are included in your bills at the restaurants, unlike the U.S. where the tipping culture is getting way out of control. Cost in Korea in general is not cheap but it's not as expensive as in the U.S. Luckily, there are no hidden costs and insane tips in Korea as I mentioned before. The best part about Korea though is safety. It is a really really safe country!! Enjoy your stay!!

@ChaseandShelbs 17 дней назад
Yes something happened with miscommunication, no worries! We moved on from the situation pretty quick. Things happen. 😊 we love that about Korea, it’s so nice to have everything included. We also feel so safe so that’s great. Love love love Korea! Thanks a ton and have a great rest of your weekend 💛

@@ChaseandShelbs read @Littlewings_p comments/thoughts about what might’ve happened. He/she thinks you got back three 1000W bills and one 5000W bill. But maybe you thought it was 500W. The vendor did offer the last bits of tteokbbokki to you at 2000W, a discounted price and I think he gave you back the correct change of 8000W, assuming you gave him a 10,000W bill.

What you had were financiers. A financier is a small French almond cake, flavoured with beurre noisette, usually baked in a small mold. 7:57 its Korean version financier, a small French brick shape almond cake, flavoured with beurre noisette. Light and moist with a crisp, eggshell-like exterior, the traditional financier also contains egg whites, flour, and powdered sugar. 18:39 I have a feeling it's Ssanghwatang, one of very popular Korean medicine tea that's traditionally made with boiled down a number of medicinal herbs such as dried white woodland peony roots, steamed dried rehmannia roots, Mongolian milkvetch, korean angelica roots, lovage roots cinnamon barks, liquorice and etc. it's a long process of making it so ppl just buy premaded version these days.

As a Korean, I'm sorry to hear that you were overcharged for a Korean food you were happy to try for the first time.😠 I'm wondering whether the tteokbokki vendor gave you a mix of coins and bills for the change. If he did, that would have been an indication that he cheated you on purpose, making it difficult for you to count the change. I hope that wasn't the case. Most Koreans, however, are polite and kind to foreigners, so you'll not meet many Koreans who treat you dishonestly, although there will always be exceptions. You seem like a genuinely kindhearted couple, and I'm enjoying your videos!

25:55 That's rarely the case in Korea recently, because if tourists are rumored to have been ripped off, the branch gets a lot of social criticism. If someone charges tourists a rip-off fee, they will now have to get ready to give up their business. I think they misunderstood the unit of bills or they couldn't communicate well with each other.

I think there's something wrong with the tteokbokki payment. The sign says it's 4,000 won for one meal, but the owner offered it to you for 2,000 won, probably because it's the last pieces, which might look dry and not so tasty. By the way, he put fishcake soup, not water, which looks completely normal. Everything seemed fine until this point. But I'm confused about why you paid 6,500 won. I don't think the owner tricked you based on how he behaves. It's more likely there was a mistake in your counting the money or a misunderstanding between you and the owner. I hope this doesn't make you feel bad.
@SJC-oj2je
@SJC-oj2je 17 дней назад
I watched the video again, and he clearly said 2,000 won and even showed it with his two fingers. Why didn't you discuss the price with the owner if you thought it was different from what you expected? I can hardly believe the owner would risk his business by cheating in front of a camera.

@ChaseandShelbs 17 дней назад
He put up 2 fingers while speaking Korean so we thought he was asking if we wanted 2 orders but then we said we only wanted 1. We didn’t know he was saying 2,000 won. Either way we payed what we payed and moved on. 😊 We also double checked our money after and we counted correctly so a mistake happened. Oh well it’s okay there was just miscommunication.

@@ChaseandShelbs You moved on, but the owner was featured in this video by a RU-vidr with 126k subscribers. I love your videos, but it would have been better if you had talked to the owner about the price instead of simply posting it here. If he was being honest, he might feel very frustrated knowing what is being discussed here. Recently, there was a national headline about an owner in Gwangjang Market, a very popular destination for foreign visitors, who provided a too-small portion of food to a RU-vidr. Although she didn't cheat on the price, the portion was too small. This kind of video can sometimes become big news in Korea because such incidents are rare, and Koreans do not want to mistreat visitors.

There's toilets everywhere in Japan, most conferences stores have one for free and department stores have them. Hard to find toilets in Korea. Hello and goodbye is anneyong-haseyo, thank you is kamasa-mida. Also it's gochu-jang.

You should have pointed out the incorrect calculation on the spot. I am certain it was his mistake, not an intentional attempt to overcharge you. If such an issue arises at another restaurant, I advise you to speak up immediately without hesitation.

I saw he put up two fingers in that video, it seems he was asking for 2,000 won since it was the last batch, he discounted to half of the original prince posted. Should have confirmed the price before hand.

@whryu4904 15 дней назад
@@jinh.8221 I can assure you that he said it was two thousand. If you think the calculation is strange, you can dispute it at the time of payment. He might have confused it with the next customer's bill, and such calculation mistakes can happen in any country.

You're so pretty, I wonder why you got a piercing on your nose. Still, in Korea, I have a lot of resistance to piercings on my nose, lips, and back..It doesn't look good either.

The tteokbokki that you got was probably not the best, especially because it was the last serving in that pan. And that small cup of it shouldn't have cost 6,000 won. For that price, you could've gotten a full plate of it at a restaurant.

Welcome to korea! Tteokbokki is one of the worst Korean foods. Originally, traditional tteokbokki (called Gungjung tteokbokki) was a royal dish made with rice cakes, nuts, and beef with a little soy sauce. But now Tteokbokki is made from wheat flour, not rice cake, and has turned into a spicy and sweet junk food. Actually, chili had been around in Korea since the late 1700s, but it was rare. It took off in the 1970s. Kimchi also had no chili in it.

We enhance our voices to reduce the loud ambient noise in the background. When we do this our voices seem louder than they actually are. You can turn down the volume on your phone or computer. Also this was our FIRST DAY in a new country. We tried to say hello and thank you and it’s the most difficult words we’ve learned so far in our travels. In the following videos we start to get the hang of it.
