Why kosher salt? Is kosher a must? Or will regular simple salt spoil the food?

Any type of salt will work, but I've been using Kosher salt since I started sharing my recipes. Some say it's a bit saltier than regular salt, but I haven't noticed much of a difference.

Every year on New Year’s day, my sister-in-law does a Shabu Shabu pot. She is Japanese and her mother use to have that for them growing up.

I have tried shabu-shabu in the Philippines. It's tasty, beef was well-done and soft. The soup was not spicy. It's different from korean's. Just my experience. I super love Filipino shabu-shabu. You must it maangchi and share it to your audience.

Hot pot, shabu-shabu have taken the world by storm . In Western Canada where Asian presence is palpable , this is popular. But never in America. One comment says it all : they don't want to cook their food at the dining table. To each his own. Korean food is a special occasion fare in our household . There is no shortage of ideas, Korean Supermarkets take the stress off our shoulders when entertaining.

We had shabu shabu in Seoul and it was such a fun experience! It was a huge busy family restaurant with everyone on the floor.

We're planning on making one for Christmas eve dinner, but we use hot pepper flakes and gochujang in our stock as well as rice cakes. We've got the thin beef and prawns and dumplings and vegetables. We use skewers to try and keep things together but I'll get some of those spoons! Also top tip for vegetarians/vegans (or any umami lovers) you can use the water from rehydrating dried shittake mushrooms as replacement for fish sauce stock based dishes.

I had to laugh when you ate the shrimp. I eat it exactly to same - bite lightly through the shell part to release the flesh within. Other people waste so much by just biting off the exposed shrimp. I could make a meal of what is left 😁
