Trot is not influenced by Japanese Enka.. but it is the same music to Enka. It was a new genre created by the collaboration of Korean & Japanese songwriters in the period of the Japanese colony(1910~1945). The time when began Enka is the same time when Trot began in Korean Peninsular around the middle of the 1920s. Before that time there were only "Changa"s which is translated western-song or creatures influenced by the Western folk song or Christian hymns in Japan and Korea. Trot is 2-time beat or rhythm which was very popular in 1920's Western countries. and the rhythm was imported by Korean composers who had studied western music (classics) at the music school in Japan. Ther early time of Trot(=Enka) there produced so many masterpieces written by Korean composers and lyricist. and there was no genre called Enka in Japan before the first times of trot in the Korean Peninsula and Some of the early trot songs have not the rhythm or beats of a trot(binary time beats) but Waltz's(triple time beats) because the trace of "Changa" which had the influences from western folk song or hymn remained. The father of Enka, Koga Masao (古賀 政男, こが まさお, 1904. 11.18. ~ 1978. 07. 25. ) had lived his puberty period in Korean peninsula(Chosen peninsula) and got influenced by Korean traditional music. the first Koga's Enka pieces were composed in his very early 20's when he returned from Chosen(Old Korea) to Japan around the middle of the 1920s. When he introduced a new kind of music to his homeland, Japanese people thought his music is from Chosen, because the trendy songs before his masterpieces were "Changa" style and his music was a really new type called nowadays as "Enka". So Enka has the same life or history with Trot. Trot is not influenced or not originated from Enka. Trot is the same genre to "Enka" but differentiated nowadays by the fact the lyric is Korean or Japanese.
Listening to this song for the first time on radio laying down on traditional korean house enterence wooden floor when I was very little made me feel a long summer day go by even slower. Now,in a summer day in another place and anoter time,listening this song with soundtrack of birds chirping added from my backyard reminds me of the long doggy summer days of my youth when icecream man's shouts selling the cold snacks in the streets.

Amazing how you can pick up on that, as an outsider. There is yearning and a kind of void that is somehow alive and begging for fulfillment in this kind of music. New Korean music is pointless, and chases after something nebulously 'western,' forgetting the who's and what's of their past. I really appreciate your comment!
i stumbled on this while looking for modern korean pop videos. what i've just realized is that all of today's korean pop stars voices sound like shit compared to the korean trot of yester year. just an observation from a non-korean. anyway, yes, very beautiful.
