You don't need to be fluent in English to see that this vid was clearly a parody when all the lyrics are so obviously "non-serious". My cousin isn't even fluent in either English *or Korean* and she could clearly see that this was all just for humor just by the body language and certain scenes in the entire vid. How fucking dense do you have to be to not get it?
(phandom) It's not the cultures, they probably didn't understand the English. They being the ones that don't speak/understand english fluently. I believe they introduced themselves in English in the beginning because most Koreans know basic English.
+Alyssa C. the parody itself was mostly sung in Korean, although the people who sung it weren't all fluent alot of Korean's (i've seen other Korean's react to this) could understand most of the song. I do agree they probably didn't know it was a parody of kpop but I still think there is a difference in humor.
Wow... never thought we'd get over 100,000 views in less than a day O.O thank you guys so much!! I noticed some of you commented about the sound of the MV being low... I actually had to digitally make it softer in the final cut to avoid copyright issues (good thing we have FUPA though
Someone should have explained it to the girls i feel. The guy got it, he understood that it was a parody of how non-koreans react to kpop even though they don't actually know what is being said. I feel if near the end if it was explained to them they would get it better and be able to relate to it more easily. They were just really confused because they could understand what they were saying. They obviously knew it was parody like and satire, but I don't think they quite understood why and the statement the video was making. And explaining it to them would make them go "Oh, i get it now." and they would probably find it more funny understanding what the video was trying to say. after all, its hard to laugh at a joke you don't quite understand.
Also, the lyrics were used to rhyme... Since they knew and understood them, I don't think they caught that... So they were too into the meaning and analyzed too much...
Ok this made me scream. The whole thing of NigaHiga's video was satire. He was making fun of how, girls (and guys) watch Kpop videos but they won't know what the lyrics are so they could basically be saying things like what BgA were singing and we wouldn't know.
+Raine Anirion The guy/girl deleted his/her comment too much of a wuss to even explain points to why you were toxic but tbh i don't find you salty but i agree with your oppinion
kingpierce nope dude. Not on my period. Not even angry over this. I found it funny over how they didn't understand this being satire. And I find it funny that you think any problem a girl can has is because they're on their period or something.
Yukki Shyro How was I being toxic? I wasn't angry or anything. I was explaining that Ryan Higa's video was satirical. I'm glad that you agree with me though.
They don't need to know ryan to understand its was a joke. Its clearly understandable when they said" why they like k-pop even though they don't understand korean language"
But you gotta agree, they are taking it a bit too seriously. The video was meant for laughs and entertaining, not for feels or anything like that.... No offense.
I'm surprised only one person really got it. I'm also amazed at the cultural differences when it comes to comedy and how some nuances are missed or lost in translation.
Around here people say that everything is cultural, but honestly, my people and I (we're not Americans) fully capture Ryan Higa's comedy. I don't think it's cultural, but personal. There are people too serious. :/
You're absolutely correct. When I try to use sarcasm on people around me(I was born and raised in America, but I am a Korean, and I am currently living in Korea)they tend not to get it, and take my words seriously.
That's the cultural difference I guess. The thing Ryan made fun of is that in the the west K-Pop is popular even though they can't understand what they are singing.
Krystal Favourite I can kinda get where they are coming from though. Well, I laughed really hard at the original video, but think about a Korean singing in Engrish with broken grammar about shit. Yeah, that complex feeling is what average Korean would get.
I think he mean that korean will take it seriously. look at the girls reaction. they keep asking whats wrong with the lyric when it's obviously a parody of kpop song that use random english words like the guy said.
+ulNag actually it's a parody of kpop fans. I mean kpop fans that are not from Korea. because most of them don't understand korean, so even if it was sang like in this song they would not understand and think it's so nice. I think that is the point :)
Well the male reactor was right, he said Koreans might not find the video funny because they don't get it's intentions. So we should understand why the other reactors didn't get it, lolol.
Lol why are the girls so schocked with the lyrics!? Its supposed to be random wrong lyrics bc remember how the guy who can speak korean was giving them wrong translations of sentences. Omg some one plz explain to those girls its supposed to be funny and like that on purpose
+Ciel Phantomhive i don't think they don't get it but they just don't find it funny. some people are not into this kind of jokes, i'm not into it too much either
I think it's just that they don't understand the humor because they understood all the lyrics. The English speaking guy showed it best. He knows that this is funny because to an English speaker, it's perfectly fine, but as a Korean, the lyrics throw him off a bit. The two girls don't seem to speak a lot of English, so I guess that this would be like playing a nonsense English song to all of us. Though I think the one girl started to catch on a little bit towards the end xD
Well I do feel like Koreans wouldn't understand the point/why they made the video. I felt like the entire thing was not just parodying K-Pop but also portraying themselves as sort of dumb people trying a quick scheme, only to fail terribly because they know ZERO Korean. It's like how when white kids would ask something innocent back in the day like "oh how do you say etc. etc. in Korean?" and you tell them something ABSOLUTELY gross or profane and you see them go around just randomly spouting it. Like I feel like the purpose of the video was to purposefully show them as ignorant; though I don't know if they'd get that.
Idk why your analyzing a parody and bashing it saying they're dumb people-isn't that a bit too much. Its weird for Koreans to not know its a parody cause anyone watching this knows this is a form of satire and there's no need to be worked up over the lyrics. Im surprised they didn't realize its a kpop parody and analyze it a lot when the words are not even real and they have a poker face like lmao.
The whole point of the video is to be funny. The lyrics are nonsense because it's a skit: they rely on that one Korean guy to make the lyrics but, as seen when he says "I don't like your eyes", he's not very good. It's supposed to be like they're trying to be serious and they were trying to make a real song, but because that one guy sucks at Korean the lyrics are weird 😝 why do people seem to think that the lyrics are nonsense because they didn't care or because they focused on other things or whatever, it's the whole point of the video 😂 also I doubt that it's meant to be a song that you listen to and the band isn't real, it was just made as a RU-vid parody guys 😜
For people who don't get the joke: it's supposed to be a joke of how Americans see Kpop. Like, they could be singing anything and we would still think it's good because we don't know the lyrics say. At least that how I interpreted it
They mispronounced "nan nun saranghae" to "nan dong sayadae" 😂😂😂 That's the funny thing about it. Just like what they did with "sexy namja" to "sexy naengmyong" 😂
Grace Osas It took me awhile too. But I realised it because at the end Ryan was sitting on the sofa with the girl and he held her hair and said lovingly "Nan dong sayadae" XD I'm pretty sure it was suppose to be "Nan nun saranghae" hahahahaha
I don't get it. I'm pretty sure they came up with "Na dong saya dwae" because they wanted to translate the "Ayy, girl. You da shit." What is "nan nun saranghae" anyway???? It's completely out of the joke.
i don't think they understood that the korean guy translated the words wrong in the beginning so the group thinks they actually saying stuff such as "girl, you're the shit" in korean and that's the comedy of it
I think the big part of the joke was that people who don't speak Korean and listen to Koop wouldn't be able to tell the difference in lyrics, they would probably think it's a legit song.
Haha, yeah like to us its obvious this video is a joke, I mean RYAN HIGA is one of the main singers LOL but yeah, these Koreans should've seriously been warned before watching...ahaha
Most Koreans have literally no sense of humor and my boyfriend is one of them it's so cringing I couldn't handle it. I showed the music video to him and he was silent the whole time while I was crying from laughter and after that he said "I don't think they should make kpop music" I looked at him for few seconds and said "you don't get the joke do you? They are comedian youtubers who made a parody kpop song..." he was like "oh..."
I don't know about these people and their reactions, but I certainly laughed my ass off. But really, no other Korean people I know got the joke or even thought it was funny. Shame.
Carmen Xerxes Shame. I got the joke. but as I commented on a different post, if you reverse the point of view, it is pretty hard to laugh at. Korean singing with very serious face about shit will be rather disturbing. Well, most people I know would laugh their ass off, but I'm talking about average guys here.
"This sounds like something someone would listen to if they didn't know what it actually meant" Oh like every K Pop song international fan listen to and sing along to.
+Hanifa 198 not exactly I think its important to look up the lyrics and get to know the meaning of each song. lol I feel like Koreans sometimes toss in random English words tho 😂😂
if they paid attention in the beginning and listened to why the boys wanted to start a group...the title wouldve made sense... i thought this was too funny
that's why its hilarious. one of them commented that the other guy was "super korean" implying that he spoke really well, but in actuality he pronounces it incorrectly. i thought it was funny... it was like a horrible google translation.
I do think u guys and the boys deserve it. I've seen alot of things happen which i find really unfair. Even im not Army yet, but i deff are a supporter of BTS+Army ;) Hwaiting! Hope Army will grow bigger and bigger
The reason behind the parody video is related to how some girls that don't understand Korean fawn over kpop groups and swear that they love the songs though they don't understand it at all. It's not a bad thing, but what's funny is that they could (barely but comically) pass of as a kpop group with such a nonsensical song.
Different cultures have different senses of humor. Kind of like how in variety shows there, international viewers think some things are offensive whereas in Korea, it's a form of entertainment and humor.
I notice it too. The korean dont really understand the joke. Most part always point out wrong translated or said they made the lyrics by help of google translate XD I think they will understand after knowing 3 of the members are korean :P
They are not use to parody songs with different lyrics I think. I have seen some Koreans do parodies but they usually stick to the original lyrics but sign, dance, and dress in a funny matter. Most conservatives would consider a song with these lyrics gross.
idea of this video to show how we usually hear korean languages, thats why lyrics so ridiculous, cos we don't understand what song about, but we like it)
same, but in the beggining of the video they said "how can they love something so much that thay can't even understand ?" and then they trying to speak korean, but incorrectly, thaaaats why there are stupid lyrics
+Анна Середич yeah I know lol. I actually wouldn't mind listening to this song because the beat is nice and the lyrics are nonsensical but only for comedic purposes.
We actually made a cover of this song recently! If you guys have time please check us outt~ And this song is actually pretty catchy haha. BgA represent
Um how do I say this... You people in the comments who already know Nigahiga (as do I) and understand his sense of humor need to be more open minded. Don't bash these Koreans for not getting the joke, this kind of humor isn't really used in such cultures; that's why some of them were shocked at the lyrics or overanalyzed the whole thing. I think it was interesting to see how genuinely they reacted, it shows how different our cultures can be! Also I subbed, it was interesting to watch you guys react to this. Keep up the good work!
Personally, I think it's funny. However, imagine if you are from an English speaking country listening to a song with the word "shit" and "poop" every few seconds for the entire song. It gets awkward after a while. I think that's how they feel.
lol why they're so serious analyze the lyrics 😂 it's obvious they made the lyrics only for people to laugh.. and that bigbang hairstyle tho. I'm dying lmaooo 😂
I've heard some Koreans don't get sarcasm because it's not as common in their culture i guess thats why some of them took this literally and were blind to most of the jokes like they didnt understand the lyrics were bad and made no sense was because it was written by the korean-american guy who mistranslated everything. and even the group name BgA "boys generally Asian" they took seriously (partly because in reality group names in Korea are ridiculous so it just seemed normal to them lol)
i was comment exactly what u wrote in ur comment, but then I saw it, so I agree :) the joke in higas video is that he found words that rhymed and sounds good in korean kpop but subs shows the real lyrics with their meaning hahaha very funny
The joke is that white people are watching Kpop without understanding the words. So what if, to impress girls, a group of Asian Americans started a Kpop group having just as much understanding of the language as the white Americans watching. I can see Koreans not getting this joke at all, because they're not really involved in the joke at all.
Dexin Zhong You'd be surprised. Go and watch some SNL Korea. Not every joke lands but it's a hell of a lot funnier than our SNL. My favorite was the 50 Shades of Grey parody, "My Boyfriend is Block B", or Tiffany from Girls Generation playing the American girlfriend. Or "How Koreans See Foreigners". Shit, they have a lot of good stuff.
No, she knows who BTS is because they're becoming pretty mainstream(mainstream as in everybody knows about them) in Korea. Even my parents know who BTS is.
'I know who BTS is' Me: BTS? Who are they? Never heard of them. *sweats nervously* Honest. *hides phone background, merchandise and multiple fan accounts*
Mentally slapping myself because I took you seriously and was about to tell you you're life hasn't even begun until you've at least listened to one BTS song. LOL WOOPS.
I think part of the taking-things-super-seriously thing is because they understand the language (and possibly because they keep swearing in Korean); if you heard an English song like that, you'd probably overanalyze a little, too. :) Sorry, it's just that I'm Chinese and I laughed until my sides hurt about this, but I probably would've just stared like O _ O if there was a song full of swears in Chinese. >.
I think maybe English speakers are used to parodies like this, so we wouldn't be as shocked and would understand what they're doing. But I get why people from other cultures might not understand it at first haha
I think since they understand the language they would actually better understand that this is definitely a parody song. Its kinda easy to tell with videos and lyrics like those. I think wat really shocked those girls was that the group didnt turn out like the ideal kpop boy groups they are used to and so thats why they were taking it more seriously like wats going on
I think they take K-POP to seriously. Along with peoples looks and etc. They are use to the ideal K-POP stuff w/ no comedy. Over-analyzed it. Its like someone being a hardcore R&B fan, while a Metal fan watches a parody...
ruiqi22 not just a different sense of humor. They wouldnt get the satire aimed at poking fun at the west who love Kpop, even if they dont understand the language.
wowza it's just a joke, they took it too seriously obviously bga isn't real and they're not going to be real. they know how ridiculous the lyrics were, multiple "members" of bga were korean chill out fam lol
It's actually quite surprising how....dense they are?? Like was it not obvious that most of them weren't korean,,,,,and it was comedy/parody over actual kpop. it's interesting, korean americans understand/interpret it better than south koreans :s
