Yeeees, these are the kind of sounds I was expecting the opsix could do, but harder to find among manyof the to me less interesting old school fm sound demos. Great patches and demo. Now this machine is back on my list :/

the opsix is quite underrated and I have to say that the factory presets really don't help here. My position as sound designer might be a bit biased but Korg's focus on boring 80s pianos, rock organs don't do the unit a favor. Just based on the factory sounds I would have never bought the opsix. But then, from a sound designer and electronic musician's perspective the specs seemed quite interesting to me. And once you dive a bit deeper into its synth engine the opsix is an excellent and powerful synth.

@@limbicbitsHey, thanks for the answer! Good to hear. Agreed on the presets, videos of people demoing all theopsix presets are not inspiring. But i do feel korg nailed making fm fun to program on the opsix, and the sounds you demo is where Id like to take it! Getting more curious to get my hand on this one! Keep up the good work!

Lovely sounds. I was put off getting one by the 16 note limit on the sequencer, but seeing you use the Arp on each step with tempo slowed right down really changes that. Love that it has a real-time sequencer. So many synths these days just have the bog standard step time.
@limbicbits
@limbicbits 2 года назад
opsix is truly underrated in my opinion. But nevertheless, I wouldn't give its internal sequencer too much importance when making a buying decision. The synth itself is awesome enough.
@philxdev
@philxdev Год назад
16 steps are plenty if you only using it as a modulation tool... you can still use any external midi sequencer or your DAW and play through whatever notes you like and just let it play/trigger through the modulation within the internal sequencer... for that, the sequencer is pretty nice.

knob per function immediacy wins every time. This thing sounds great too, Korg wins in the sound department. they come up short on features and different versions. like desk top / full keys. I would really like to see korg come out with something like touch keys or one of these synths with a poly bed/ ribbon controller maybe. You cant argue with the sound of Korg though, I have a Prologue and it just makes me smile.

I’m super stoked to get my OpSix in a few days. It went on sale for $329 and I jumped on the Op-portunity lol. Also, these patches are great. I design my own but also like to download other peoples too. Most likely will pic this up. I’m blown away by the Sonic tones it produces. I have a Digitone, Volca FM, and they don’t compare to this experience.
@thedeepblueskys

I actually just purchased the sound pack. It’s been a while since I purchased presents instead of making my own, but I had to have this one. Figured I could learn a lot about the OpSix quickly from examining the settings of these patches. Definitely worth the 23 bucks and odd change.
@limbicbits
@limbicbits 2 года назад
For 329 it's a steal. It was worth it before, too. Imo, the opsix might be one of the most underrated synths of the last years. If rumours of it being discontinued are true, it would really be a bummer. But maybe Korg will release a version with a better keyboard or even a desktop module (which would be highly appreciated)
@thedeepblueskys
@thedeepblueskys 2 года назад
@@limbicbits yes I agree. A desktop version would be great. I seen a post of someone that modded there OpSix by removing the keyboard via sawing it down and putting a small wood frame around it. It looked pretty good but I wouldn’t try that. I read other people wanting a better keyboard for it, but I think I’ll get by just fine with the one onboard. At that price I got it for I’m very happy. Should be here tomorrow. It’s got me thinking about the Wavestate and Modwave. But yes, the OpSix was definitely underrated by me until I ordered this deal. I’m definitely starting to see it’s potential over my other FMs.

Nice sounds, this synth seems to be more suited for ambiant atmospheric and evolving pads, but does it also have a polyphonic transposable sequencer like the Modwave and Wavestate? (possibility to record a note sequence, then play a chord and this same sequence starts for each notes being pressed at its correspounding pitch)
@limbicbits
@limbicbits 2 года назад
Yes, it does. But modwave doesn’t. Modwave has a really nice motion sequencer which is great for shaping tones but not as intuitive to program melodies and chords like with the one in the opsix

I am loving you channel. 🙏 I have recently sold my Digitone keys - and it turns out I miss having an fm sound. I have fallening love with the mega FM - but I also think the opsix is fantastic, and possibly a better, more creosote choice. I wonder how you feel? ✌️
@limbicbits
@limbicbits Год назад
Thanks! I actually kept both because they are quite different. opsix has lots of features and good effects included. MEGAfm has a very unique sound which I haven't found elsewhere yet. It could be described as a (very) gritty FM synth with an analogue character. If you like dub techno like Rhythm and Sound or Basic Channel, the MEGAfm adds all the dirt necessary. But if you're searching for clean FM sounds, MEGAfm won't be able to deliver these. In a nutshell: opsix is way more flexible whereas MEGAfm has true character (which might not be for everyone)

Great video, I pulled the trigger and bought the Opsix hardware even though I would have loved if there was a more compact module version, at the moment i am a beginner learning piano on a Juno DS88 and also started learning how to use the MPC live 2, I wonder if it would be possible to connect the Opsix to the 88size keyboard and play the keys from there and if they would still register the velocity through a daw, I've heard mixed reactions some sat it does not support aftertouch and some say it does. Would love your take. Thanks again for showcasing this great instrument nonetheless
@limbicbits
@limbicbits 2 года назад
You can easily connect anything that comes with a traditional 5-pin MIDI port. The opsix supports aftertouch but you have to assign it to the patches. As the keyboard in the opsix comes without aftertouch (Korg really missed out here), most of the presets don't include that assignment. I have to say that this sound pack doesn't feature aftertouch heavily, either, but you can assign it to your favourite patches and parameters individually, if needed. And yes! I would like to see a smaller desktop version, too.

How did you get the sequencer to move through that BPM so slowly? If I wasn't able to see the tempo light in the video I would have guessed that the BPM was very very low to get the 16 steps to move that slowly.

I'm sorry to be this person, but I'm a novice on a budget: can I do anything that a VST cannot? It looks really promising and I'd be happy to explore its sound, but at the same time I don't want to spend my limited amount of money on something that can be bypassed using software.
@limbicbits
@limbicbits 2 года назад
Maybe I'm not the right person to ask as I'm a strong advocate of the idea "less is more". If you're happy with VSTs I don't see a reason for you to go hardware. You can make great music that's suitable for clubs (and other circumstances), equally. Using hardware comes mostly into play, when: - You want the original sound of unity X/Y - You don't want to use a computer - You prefer direct access to all parameters - there are still some sides that haven't been emulated convincingly, e.g. analog Ring mod, some compressor behaviors, analog saturation (whoever this reads, please point me to a plugin you find convincing for saturation, overdrive etc. - I'm always curious) So if you're on a budget: Use what you have and spend the money first on a good pair of speakers or headphones, then a good audio interface, and then room treatment. Then, after a while and once you've got used to sound design, production etc. you might want to try out hardware and see, if you find this approach more inspiring.

Exactly what I thought at that point in the video. Funny thing is, I always wanted to buy an Access Virus but somehow I never have. A few weeks ago I bought the opsix mostly to explore FM synthesis more, but honestly I don't think I've created any proper FM patches for it yet. It looks like I bought the Virus unknowingly, but this version is also an excellent FM synth (except for the primitive envelopes) and so much more thanks to all the other operator types. Although it's not multitimbral and doesn't have USB audio, sadly. Let's hope Korg releases a more advanced version in the near future.
