www.achamilton.... We thought we should do a quick video comparison of the Korg PA900 and Roland BK-9. This is just a small example of similar styles and sounds in the instruments. Which would you prefer?
They are both good Synths in different ways and in my opinion they can not compete with each other. However I feel this video favours the Korg Synth because the demonstrator is playing the Roland BK9 not as well as the Korg PA 9000. I think this video is designed to show the Roland BK9 in a bad light and the Korg PA900 in the good light but it is not any better than the Roland BK9 and neither is the Roland BK9 better than The Korg PA900. this is another way to get people fighting and arguing on RU-vid.
Only diffrent quality on the styles and percussion but the sounds are great on both......Roland Rhitms secction has always been electronic sounding and flat........in that area Kork and yamaha are better
Veronica McCarrison Hi!!! I agree in almost but, they are not synths! PA600 is a very complete PRO leve ARRANGER!! and the BK9 is an arranger as well.. as a matter of fact Roland released their EM series for the arrangers segment.. but PA series from Korg overpasses them. The last BKseries stand for Pro Arrangers with some digital synth caractheristics but, they are arrangers. "Arranger" stands for a multi task keyboard which is designed to make you the "one man band" , the synths are keyboards which make you CREATE and manipulated the configuration and construction of sounds (samples, tones)and the Workstations are designed to make a real PRO work in altering sounds, digging deeper in the different configutations, to program and develop music production..including recording, accompaingments, secuencing, and more advanced programming language. I consider, the PA series over the best arranging pro level purposes,in fact, workstations like Kronos are superior in almost any feature coz of the 9 differente sound engines included into that fine board. Now, the touch, feel of PAseries is not remarkable..just fine, in the Kronos is far better..but not the best.. there are out there the PA series designed in Italy: Pa3x and the Pa3xLe they are "fine biscuits" ;) I hope to have helped... Greetings!
I have a BK9 and this comparison in my opinion does NOT do the BK9 any favours, I did have a PA600 but much prefer the BK9. I agree with pcuimac the backing styles are lower than the PA900, mine sounds so much better than these demos, the problem is the BK9's OTS's could be a lot better, and that's probably why most think the PA900 sounds better.
instruments2go I discovered your channel recently. Although I gave my opinions on a few of your videos, I would like this time to THANK YOU for the fantastic job you did/do...I have been playing keyboards since the time of Technics, Yamaha and Lowrey huge (and fantastic) wooden organs :-) Well Sir, you play wonderfully and your comparisons are great. Thanks again for your GREAT and USEFUL videos ! :-)
im a korg user since the I-30, and had the pa 50 the pa 1x and now use the 3x, however, i really like the roland sounds, so use to have a roland sound machine, now i have sampled some of the sounds i like. to sum it up roland is better on the sounds, but kork is better on the arrangments, and i like their layout better
korg,Yamaha,roland,ketron.....all this are very good instruments but you can find more programs for kong that's why korg its more popular,,otherwise all of them are great arrangers
Thank you for your comment. We are completely aware of all this and everything was calibrated correctly for this video on the product. It boils down to the simple fact that some keyboards just have a sound that is more dynamic than others. Those spikier waveforms stop the overall sound from being quite as loud as other products. This is not necessarily a bad thing as it allows for greater expression as a player.
I own a BK7m and have played along with a Pa600. But i still love the Roland BK. Also My Roland NX700 vs Kronos.. i still in love with the Roland rich SuperNatural Grand Piano....!!
Korg sounds very nice, especially sax ! But i prefer Bk-9, styles more punchy and 76 key weighted ! And the non-touch screen on the Bk-9 is not a problem : very easy to navigate thanks to the double screen.... even though the touch screen of the PA900 is more easier !
The backing styles of the Roland are at least at -6dB compared to the PA900. No wonder it sounds not as good as the PA. I did the same mistake when I compared my Fantom G with a M3. I forgot to reset the gain poti in my mixer and wondered why the Fantom G sounded 'thin'. You have to calibrate both to the same dB Level for backing track and piano/lead sound.
I have the bk9 and korg pa3x, I compared and played both I like the korg better in general except for the weight because bk9 is like made of plastic but the bracket and the screws inside that holds the keys and the other parts are metal of course, correct me if I am wrong, because I opened it at the back and I saw it. korg is easy to use, this is my own opinion. dual mp3 players you can play at the same time and sounds better than bk9, The Harmonizer, and all the buttons for the individual sound if you want to turn it on and off are handy. microphone sounds better than bk9. the bass sound of the korg is more realistic when i play the style compared to the bk9. again this is my opinion. but I keep them both for some other reasons.
Why didn't korg make the pa900 a 76 note keyboard, I think the Roland is a 76 note but as for the keyboards themselves both are very good keyboards, A very good comparison video
Hi! You wrote: "We thought we should do a quick video comparison of the Korg PA900 and Roland BK-9." So I thought you were doing this "quick" with no calibration. What many people don´t recognize is that sounds with a continous spectrum can transport more energy than something like a triangle wave. The impression a keyboard makes depends very much on the used sounds. Roland and Korg products sound both very impressive!
The Roland has much better style to song representation. I played my way by sinatra using their pe programed accompaniment and I was blown away. Same went for price tag by Jessie J. The backing styles are spot on. So...Roland please
In the last segment, the synth-sounding guitar on the Roland was totally out of place with the other instruments. There were three 'comparisons' done where a sax was the voice. We know Korg has a good sax -- it seems to have breathy sounds layered with the sax sound -- the Roland may have this but we didn't hear it. Is there no flute voice on the Roland? We didn't hear any. I think Veronica is right -- I don't think the Roland was played as well as the Korg in this video. The piano on the Roland was great, as expected.
O G70 SABENDO FAZER DA SURRA NO PA 900 E NO BK9! PENA A ROLAND NÃO TE MAIS INVESTIDO MAIS NESSA LINHA COMO NAS LINHAS G800 G1000 G70 VÁ EM2000 E96 VA76, LENDÁRIOS ARRANJADORES MARCAN ATÉ OS DIAS DE HOJE 🤔🤔
roland piano ie great!! i never had a roland . I love my yamaha motif xs & i think is 1 of the best 4 a long time ! korg is very confuse me/ very diffecilt 2 use
Roland is not natural warm sound and strings sound to electronic. Korg is made in Italy and we know better then other country on orchestra with passion feeling and emotion on orchestra instruments
I use PA 900, and for me it's a powerhouse. The default patches are very bad and some of the programmed tones too. But do some tweaking and no other keyboard will come up to its level. The Korg's are powerhouse if you are interested in sound programming. BTW, the output from its speakers is not good. Connect it to an amp and it really becomes a beast.
There is something wrong with BK 9 sound. I have one and live sounds much better than here. BK 9 sounds more live like real bend Korg is more studio sound like cd
Not a fair comparison unless you use the same voices. Brass lead on the Korg compared to a nylon guitar lead on the Roland?? Ever hear of comparing apples to oranges? Fail.
I have a lot of keyboards of different companies...my order from the best to worst is......... i love all my korg keys then kurzweil. Then roland then yamaha and finally casio... Best is korg.. Worst is casio
BK9 is bad at user-interface. You can see, the pannel is black, and all botton and Switchs are black too. I've entered a music store and I can not see button on the keyboard properly. PA900 styles play now more dynamic and live (not compare to Yamaha S950 Styles, Yamaha still hold position 1st at Style) than BK does. Except BK9 Grand Piano is just great for an Arranger
Are you still in the 80s lol? Korg is bigger than Roland today. When Roland releases a new model in 2016 we can say but so far no. Roland needs to keep up with times. I owned a few over the years.
Why are you people comparing TYROS 5 that is twice the price of PA900 and the BK 9??? That is stupid...You get much more out of the Roland and Korg for the 2000€ rangee than the tyros5 for 4000€ plus.
Is very simple no body is triying to make look bad nobody........the fact is that Kork has more Big sounding Styles and percussion(Roland percussion styles) has always sound flat......the sound on both of them sound great....on the other hand go and see the Yamaha Tyros 5 and then well talk about sound quality and styles...also the PSR S750,950
