I love how Korg keeps innovating. Meanwhile, Roland is offering sub-par VA remakes of its iconic machines. Bo-ring! Keep doing what you're doing, Korg!
I'd frame the issue a different way: how gullible are people willing to pay hundreds more for a kick-drum generator with far fewer features priced at hundreds of dollars more? That's the question you should be asking yourself.
"True industry leaders of the modern day." Come back to me when you get to the 21st century. The analog worship these days is truly detracting from any actual creativity in electronic music.
Ok ok fine, nerds rant hard. But let me be sincere about this: it's very easy to see gear obsession as the norm. Please don't buy into the idea that the gear is the source of inspiration, because a few hundred here and a couple hundred there really adds up fast and you know very well that there are many more inexpensive ways to get a great sound. And I really believe that the sound comes first.
'tatsuya' has obviously been locked up in that lab producing these things for us, he will finally emerge with the long hair and beard, shying from the sun! >_
Nice to see Tats rocking out in this video. Nice to see an interesting new Volca module from the left field here and a nice alterative to JoMox's Mbase 11.
Hi AudioGem, your initial comment suggests you completely missed the joke in the original comment, to which I followed up by saying 'lets hope he is all ok'. I presumed your comment was taking it to the next level of sarcasm, but from your last reply to donut master it suggests you missed the joke completely and are processing this dialog on a much more imaginative basis... I suggest reading it again, and take note of the tone of sarcasm. Nobody cares about his back - the joke is that its a a synth demo, so for someone to be only taking note of someones posture in a demo, does not say much for the synth. Think about it...
+MrPeyghman +inthefade those aren't korg, and also they're both over $1000. I'm thinking something without menus. real analog controls. buttons for the step seq instead of touch strips. nixie tubes. knife sharpener. sticker dispenser. etc.
Wasn't expecting this. But i'm interested. Also, would love a "XL" version of the Volca Beats. One with more control and save slots. ...unless there is going to be a Volca variation of all the individual drum parts after this. What's next for Korg?
Now that I own a Volca Kick, I said so long to my almost brand-new Roland TR-8. FINALLY, I can PROPERLY tune my kick drums!!! Oh, and the super nasty keyboard "bassline" function...NUFF SAID!!!
Excited for a new device but was hoping for a fx unit or an improved and expanded version of the Vbeat. Korg has been productive and gaining fandom . Very excited in anticipation for the next volca line. Bravo korg!
This is a great idea. It would need at least 8 channels - six Volca units, plus extras. I agree with +inthefade that onboard effects would be great. A master clock is unnecessary as built-in sync turns any unit into a master clock. Battery powered of course.
Hell yeah. Spot on. itchin' for it. And make it a digital multi-track recorder! - just simple recording of a WAV file from each channel to an SD card. Have a campfire jam session, then copy your tracks into your DAW when you get back from the bat cave.
More impressed by this, than I expected to be. Wonder if you can play resonant, tuned bass notes, like a bass guitar? Of course, I already have the Volca NuBass for that, just curious. My Volca Drum, and Volca Sample, also produce some great bass drum sounds.
I sense great power coming from that box! No one can have that much power, it is too much! if it falls into the wrong hands it can destroy..EVERYTHING!
...but I'd pay *at least* £240 for a Korg Volca Right Bongo - those things have historically been so difficult to render in budget modular hardware form... Or something.
I'm new at this. Can I plug the Volca Kick into the MicroKorg-S that is coming out this month? I want to play trance/happy hardcore and something like this would be sweet!
Would I be guessing right in thinking if this thing has a "swing" control, then it can be your sync master for your Volca rig and get all those puppies swinging in time, or even in the rain?
Interesting but not exactly sold on it. I think it would be interesting to make a PD Synth volca or a wavetable volca now that would be cool. Keep it up Korg, your products are amazing.
Wonder what Roland will bring this time on 909 Day? In the meantime, Korg is killing it IMO - Volca Kick + Beats + Sampler > TR8 at the same price; Minilogue > System I at the same price
Weird recording. Whats up with the backround hiss? is it recorded with a mic? Maybe it`s cause of where the kick is tuned freq wise but somehow sounds a bit thin on my earphones and the are not cheap ones
stealing the Roland 303 announcement thunder. still a wierd choice but korg showing us that tats produces the gear he wants which in turn is actually what the consumers want so fair play !
Dear Tats, add a f*cking line out and midi out already. The headphones out is a bad idea all along. Please remember the Monotribe and get back on that level of initial quality again. Thanks.
What the fuck would you do with a MIDI out on one of these? You want to use its sequencer to control other devices? Why? Also, line out is wholly unnecessary.
One of these days korg is going to release a machine that combines all the volcas together. Till that day arrives i am not gonna buy any more volcas. This is kind of annoying for some of us that bought the volca beats. I guess korg has a special way of saying...."sorry we fucked up with the beats"
Except the beats is way old, this is simply an oscillating filter, less capable in total sound exploration than the beats so don't 'beat' yourself up over it, or korg for that matter.
The Kick sounds a lot more capable than the Volca Beats. The Volca Beats is extremely limited in controls (plus, the control thresholds are very narrow.. so sound shaping is not really possible). I think the Kick + Beats can be a good combo.
In other words, don't learn from your mistakes, don't release any new products, just devote your energy to giving hugs to your previous butthurt customers....
This uses the MS-20 filter as an oscilator and it gives a much wider variety of sounds I guess, listening to this you can see there is not only drum kick but diferent bass sounds, it is really cool. Basilcaly the diference is the MS 20 oscilator, and the abillity to modulate the drum kick way more then in the Volca Beats. altho never owned one so don t take me up for granted.
