There's no way any candidate was going to win over Trump supporters. All they needed to do was avoid losing progressive voters, and Walz is a great pick for that.
THIS!! Best way I have heard this pick explained!! I think the JD Vance debacle has made people put a ton of weight in the VP pick, but a non controversial pick is much better than adding a second superstar (with some divisive positions- especially pertaining to Palestine) to the ticket in my opinion.
I live in one of those rural counties in MN - there are zero Trump flags. In fact, we had a neighbor who keeps his Trump flag up all the time, but a few months ago replaced it with the American flag. People I talk to are sick of the drama, want normal back, and a lot of people who weren’t on board with Walz were anti-vaccine and anti-maskers. People will get reintroduced to Tim and the positive vibes are contagious.
😂😂😂 no rural mn hates walz an is very pro trump I was at a county fair an no one wanted anything to do with the dems booth an my friend said the exact same thing happened at a different fair that he was at. A lot of greater mn is happy he's leaving
Not seeing trump flags doesn’t mean nobody would vote for trump! Most people don’t want trouble and choose not to parade the party they’re supporting bwahaha
Walz as governor, sealed women's autonomy over our bodies & our health, Strengthened Unions, brought free school lunches, paid family leave, created surplus in budget.. fights for working people, fights for middle class... Walz is not afraid to stand up against Republican extremists and fight for Minnesota Families!! He's Everything America needs in a leader!!
I didn't know much about Gov. Walz, but got a look at the '5 minutes and 26 seconds of Tim Walz being AWESOME' video when it showed up on my feed. I like what I see and I think you will too. Kamala/Tim for the win in 2024!
That is the problem. You decide after watching A VIDEO? No wonder they know they can count on you. They (Clinton and Obama and Pelosi, etc.) call y’all dumb‼️They have said it themselves. Yet, y’all remain deaf, dumb, and blind. Y’all NEVER let them down 🙄🙄🙄🙄
@@osgreyhound1 Yeah who on earth wants someone who has protected reproductive freedom, passed universal background checks, legalized recreational marijuana, expanded college opportunities for low income students, enacted free breakfast and lunch for schoolchildren, expanded LGBTQ protections, and helped make MN rank top 5 in business-friendliness and top 3 in happiness? What a monster he must be! Adopting positions held by the majority of Americans, especially young voters, is no way to win! Harris really should have chosen a proper politician that suppresses voting rights of the demographics who disagree with them, stokes division, and panders to the wealthy!
Since 2022 though, Minnesota Democrats took a 1 seat majority. And with that one seat, they legalized marijuana, and gave kids free breakfast and lunch. So it's tough to go by Walz's 2022 stats, because Republicans held the state's legislation, and they blocked everything. Since Republicans lost, Walz has been able to get a LOT of popular policy passed.

PA resident here--and I'm so freaking excited!! I was concerned the DNC/corporate Dems would pick Shapiro (who supports private charter schools, lacks transparency in regards to political gifts, supports fracking, etc.). It's one of the few times the donor class didn't get its way with us. I feel as though there's a chance of possibilities.....
Let me point something out here, I am a big fan of Kornacki. But, as usual all of the discussion is about "old" votes. The same old voters we discuss every single election. There is only one demographic where you can get new voters and that's the youth vote. Walz appeals to young voters, but at the same time is a rural guy. I really liked Shapiro, he would have been good as well, but he is more on that elite side of life. Kamala showed with this pick she is truly looking forward. There are millions and millions of young voters who are just untapped, to seize the future you gotta appeal to the future. In the end she made the right choice.
2 месяца назад
she is banking on young voters, they better turn out
Sounds like a cope. You Leftists lie to yourselves and you lie to others. The young vote will divided between male and female, or more specifically, masculine versus the feminine. Walz was a net negative and black men are going to bring it home for Trump. Get ready to lose your minds.
Great point. Walz is a close to Bernie Ssnders as you are going to get, and young voters loved Bernie. Shapiro had far too much baggage - his past just mounted up and shouted 'Danger'. Tim Walz is a fantastic pick.
Why does Walz appear to the young voter, and how does he get the young voter to turn out when they never do? "...to seize the future you gotta appeal to the future." And you do that by choosing a 60 year old that looks older than that? I like Tim Walz, but your argument makes no sense. Is Walz the best candidate to "appeal to the future"? Seems hard to believe.
As a born and raised Floridian, I would like to thank the citizens of Minnesota. You may lose a governor now, but in a few weeks, you, like millions of us, will gain a Vice President. So, with that said, I take my hat off to ya, for your wonderful governor and future Vice President to the soon-to-be "Trumpless" United States of America!
No parent or vet, teacher that I know is voting for them. Neither is any legal citizen I know of. It's a fantasy world in bot land here!!! Tampons in little boys bathrooms!?! Lunatic belongs in a psychiatric facility!!!
@@bethanyhealy4989You think Walz is going to be an enemy of the American people?I see nothing in his background that indicates that, whether you are speaking literally or metaphorically. Quite the opposite, in fact. He has done a great deal for Minnesota.
He’s been a great governor for our state. No kids go hungry at school, women get to choose what happens to their bodies, and tbh our state is beautiful. Well kept, for the most part anyway :) There is always room for improvement but instead of just making promises - he kept them. We are sad to see him go, but excited for everyone else to get to experience what we have. Minus the cold 😂
Kamala chose well. Walz served in the National Guard for 24 years. He is a gun owner and a hunter but he doesn't believe in military grade weapons on America's streets or in America's schools. He was a High School teacher, a football coach, a member of Congress, and currently he is Minnesota's Governor. As Governor, he supported the rights of women in Minnesota to make their own health care decisions and he signed a law that gave free breakfasts and lunches to all school children. Walz supports LGBTQ rights and America's veterans. Walz comes from small town America - Nebraska - where people learned to not put other people down and they learned to mind their own business rather than try to control others.

They don't need to win the deep red counties. They just need to win more voters in those areas. 6 or 7% points in those areas would mean comfortable victories in LOTS of states. I think that's possible by courting Haley voters, young people, big turnout among core Dem base.
@@susiepingleton3614Yes, magas are fascist and worship Trump not God but we still need to take care of them. 😮 They are enjoying the new infrastructure and health care and lower drug prices etc.
Did Kornacki forget that 2022 had a nationwide margin of R+2 and Biden won by D+4? That means Walz maintained his margins in rural areas despite the national popular vote shifting 6 points to the right. In other words, he did pretty well
This is an excellent point. in 2018, Walz lost to the Republican candidate by 15% (40.5% and 55.9% of the vote), not 23%. Now 2018, this was the midterms after a Republican took office, and usually the opposing party does better in those elections. 2022 was the midterm after a Democrat took office, so he predictably did worse.
@@spencerprice1676 Yeah it could still be true that Walz did worse among rural voters compared to the national shift, but the national shift needs to be taken into account. Otherwise we’re just throwing numbers on the wall
Walz is a great choice. He’s not afraid to take the fight to Republicans and he passed Universal School Lunches, Free Tuition College, Passed Paid Family Leave, and legalized marijuana. He’s a popular governor and he isn’t scared to fight back against Republicans. Plus, he passed the legislation I stated with a one seat majority.
Not disagreeing with everything you said but he's a popular governor in a state that is already Democratic leaning. Josh Shapiro would have been guaranteed PA and its 19 electoral votes for Harris. PA is a lot more competitive.
I'm an Independent, White, Straight, Christian, White Male Millennial from Georgia. I'm also the son of teachers and very much middle class. I work in a school. And I love Walz. I'm as excited to vote for him as I have been for any candidate in decades.

@@barbaramasters3232 George Floyd was a drug addict who was breaking the law. He was turned into a martyr. BML was designed to divide us so they would get those votes. Walz transferred to the national guard to avoid deployment. Lol. He's terrible
Good choice. He has improved the lives of Minnesotans in many ways. Most important of all, feeding school children and making junior colleges free. Young people are the future; must invest in them.
I appreciate Walz's Service to the Country not just in uniform but on the most important front we have in America and that is making sure our children are taken care of and are afforded a great free education. He seems to be a stand up guy. The kind of guy my construction worker father and partner and truck driving grandfather would have a sweet tea with (from the south) on the porch. I actually think they would say "good guy." My grandpa is a 97 year old WWII Vet and he doesn't allow just anyone on his porch.😂
He won my heart when he said in Minnesota kids would eat and then be ready to learn in class.(And some other good for the people , sensible stuff.) If Rs want to pin that on me as too liberal then I'm happy to accept that. Yep, he's my kinda guy. I grew up in Michigan.
So am i, but I can't say I LOVE the guy. Personally, I think Harris made a mistake by not taking Shapiro as VP. Walz will be under constant attack as being "a radical Progressive" by the far right, whilst if Shapiro had been selected, they would have had to attack from some other position (possibly Israel).
@@jessieball6195I thought so too but I heard something so real this morning, actually came from Curt Menefee, (I'm paraphrasing) but he said let's be real, a Black Woman & a Jewish Man were going to have a much tougher road; I tend to agree. Hopefully Shapiro will still pound the pavement for her in Pennsylvania and maybe get a cabinet position out of it 🤷🏾♂️. But we HAVE TO WIN Penn! 🙏🏾
What Kornacki is NOT taking into account is that Walz is a normal, everyday guy. He's a veteran, a teacher and now the Gov. That being said, he's not one of the "rich elites, and can relate more to the people.
Walz has way more experience in politics than JD vance or DJ trump combined and also more humanity in his little finger than the weird brothers have combined in their whole bodies . Vote Blue down the ticket. Take the MAGA out of the government at every level and position.
Exactly! Walz is a Democrat, but he is not part of the Establishment. That was Shapiro's problem, he came across as part of the establishment or a corporate politician... like Hillary Clintion.
Waltz abandoned his troops when he was asked to lead a deployment in Iraq. He asked for a retirement, he quit the academy and he was demoted. The man is a coward. So much so that his former military members wrote an entire article in 2018 shaming him and his record.
People complaining about MN being liberal and having high taxes fail to recognize that its programs and thus taxes are also burdened by having to function as the social support system for every surrounding conservative state that does next to nothing for its own citizens, so those who are struggling run to MN for help.
Not in Missouri. We have THREE population centers and yet our entire state is controlled by the bumpkins in the rural counties electing people who shouldn’t even run a used car lot.
I looked it up and it refers to a pilot pushing the ball covered stick to the wall for maximum power. I learned something new. And yes, it WOULD be great on a tee shirt!
Central Minnesota is arguably the reddest part of the state. Kornacki’s choice of Stearns County as the straw man County for Walz’s ability to carry rural voters is frankly selection bias.
You missed his point. All he was showing was that Walz performed roughly equal to Biden in 2020. It doesn't matter if that is in a R+1 or R+37 County. Besides, the existence If ruby red regions of the state just goes to show that he isn't this guy who has wide appeal to rural voters.

Agreed. Only looking at voting trends can be incredibly misleading, especially considering how many folks who previously voted for Trump now know the impact of that vote and may reconsider this time around.

Would Shaprio have done better in those rural areas? And will PA voters abandon Harris because she didn't pick Shapiro. I don't think so on either count. I think Kornacki is off on this one.
Again they wanted Shapiro because he was the centrist elite. MSNBC has always been against any progressive type candidate. Just go back and watch some of their coverage of the 2020 primaries and see how they react to Bernie winning states like Nevada.
I agree with you. I live in a rural Pa area and our state rep is one of the worst and everyone loves his divisive rhetoric. Those of us who are appalled by it and Trumpism will still be voting for Harris.
Typically, so do I. I have noticed that, as of late, he has been doing some interesting approaches to finding the negatives on any Democrat. His Republican leanings are breaking thru. Kornacki is literally a Newt Gingrich fan boy. I listened to the entire podcast he dedicated to an interview he had with Newt.

A big part of what Kornaki is missing here is somewhat startling. Walz is the VP nominee, the others he compared him to were ALL Presidential nominees. I think that detail matters. Also, when he goes back to Obama / Romney, that is PRE-MAGA and Romney is and was a rational, reasonable person and candidate, A LOT of the “former conservative” party has changed dramatically, NOT accounting or addressing that in his analysis is a huge gap and dramatically over-simplifies the reality of what is actually occurring. I’m confident he is aware of this but unfortunately his bosses require these things to be simplified so Jane & Joe general public can digest it. Just as unfortunately is that the folks in charge of Programming at these networks too often UNDER-estimate the intelligence of their viewers and it continues to be a bad look for them and a dis-service to both the general public at large as well as the country overall.
Steve over here comparing Walz numbers to Obama, like Tim is running for POTUS. He's the VP Steve. Harris is going for a grassroots campaign. Populism 101, class is in session.
Right they always have to compare things to Obama. What they fail to understand is Obama is a once in a lifetime candidate and you’ll never see numbers like that for a very long time. Just corporate media coping because they didn’t get what they wanted.
Good news for normalcy; Walz is a prototype American; a straight forward and a nice guy. And he knows what he’s talking about, unlike the weird former guy and his flawed sidekick.
His analysis is based on the pretty "no-duh" understanding that data is going to drive a lot of the decision-making with Harris's running mate. The data suggests that Walz is like a Midwestern Biden, but he warns that he doesn't bring substantially more, if anything, to the electoral table. He's not popular in the rural areas of these swing states, including his own. So is it a good pick? Should Harris pursued a more moderate or conservative pick? We'll see.

But he will allow the Harris ticket to hold on to Biden-level older white voters, esp. the men. That is key to a Democrat win. It not who he "brings in" . . . it's more about who he keeps in the fold.
I think he kinda misses the point tho. Because rust belt folks in the population centres will be energized by a progressive but also incredibly pragmatic choice. Appealing to the key demo Kamala needs to win which is white Suburban women.
