The Manurhin is made for duty. The harshness is so you can hold onto the gun when your hands are slippery and you need it, like if you have been shot and have blood all over your hands. That is why it is so harsh. The Korth is more refined for comfort at the range.
Jup, the guys of the GIGN put tens of thousands of rounds through the MR73, but the philosophy is in a fight you are not in a shoot out, they do not count on reloading. so the trigger will not be an issue
I think the reason you probably get a lot of hate is because it's hard for someone that knows about firearms, more specifically, revolvers, to justify paying what these guns cost and it probably just comes across wrong in the comments when they should just say they are beautiful guns and they would love to be able to have them. One thing I have learned about gun lovers is they are very passionate about their stances and say a lot of dumb things, I have even done it, we all have. Anyway, again, gorgeous pieces brother.
I talked to a former GIGN guy who s also passionate with firearm, especially revolvers. And he told me that he never find a single revolver as good as the Manurhin , as comfortable when shooting double action to be precise. Qualité de la vraie France :)
Good review, interesting perspectives... thanks for the video! I am fortunate to own both revolvers myself, I love both of them. IF I could only keep one it would be the MR73 without question. It's a true combat revolver, born and breed solely for that purpose. The Korth is my "Rolex" of revolvers (so to speak), a functional work of art.
A few years ago, I decided I wanted one of these revolvers. I was lucky enough to have a local store that had them to get a feel for each. I ended up with the MR73. To me the trigger is better, the finish looks amazing, I love the grips, it's lighter, and it has more of a history to it. You can't go wrong with either though, so i wouldn't fault someone for picking the Korth over the Manurhin.
As for wear, the one place i would look is at the top inside of the frame right where the gap between cylinder and the barrel is. That's where the gunsmith looked when i traded in my 686. In my case after years of having fun and trouble with my 686 i looked around which revolvers (i only use my guns at the range) were out there. And i went for a Ruger GP100. You might laugh at me, but my biggest problem with the 686 was that all screws came loose again and again. (In a few thousand rounds i only used maybe 100 rounds of 38sp. the rest were magnums.) The first screw that came loose was the cylinder axis. Having been unfamiliar with revolvers (i only got trained on the standard smallarms my homecountries army uses, so no revolvers) it took me a bit to realize what's wrong and auses teh cylinder to be hard to swing out. And that got the cylinder axis bent. Got myself a new axis, and it kept getting loose again and again. (eventually loctited it in, but it's still an engineering fail in my opinion to have the screwthreads go in a direction where it works itself loose) And all the other screws as well. Next in line was the one from the cylinder release. Then all the sideplate screws worked themselves loose. And after a few years in double action, i would get light primer strikes. Single action did still work. Took me a while searching on the internet to find out that the mainspring tensioning screw underneath teh grip had turned itself out and that this was also the reason i felt the trigger to be quite light for a double action... And after years of cheacking the screws every 100 -150 rounds and tightening at least one each time, i was kind of ready for a change. Looked at the two you showed in the video too. (online as i had no access to one in person) And if they didn't have a similiar looking way to keep the cylinder shut than the 686 and the cylinder turning in the same direction as the 686, i would have been even more intrigued. I couldn't find any information on how the cylinder axis is mounted on these two, and to see one live was also not possible. And then there are simliar looking sideplate screws...and the price. I thought if they work those screws loose cosnstantly like my 686 but for a way higher price, then i won't get happy. That's why i ended up with the GP100. No sideplate, no sideplate screws. Sure the cylinder release has a screw, and the sight has one. But other than that, all that went wrong with my 686 can't happen with the Ruger and it's still a Revolver. Still would like to try both of these out one day.
Love my MR73. Had to get rid of some other guns to acquire it but it was completely worth it. My only complaint is that the Trausch grips that came on it are causing wear to the blueing on the side plates. Finally swapped them out for some Karl Nill grips, which I actually prefer to the Trausch.
The Korth revolvers look very nice. Haters are gonna hate. I keep buying revolvers in the $1,000-$1,500 range, but a Korth would probably scratch my itch for the ultimate revolver. 👍👍👍👍
I have the Mongoose 3 inch and really appreciate the trigger. The three inch barrel is great for CCW, I purchased early so have a two digit serial number.
Thanks for the video, I have a 6” MR73, got it at Berreta in Manhattan, put a lot of rounds through it, probably my fault, but the crane arm bent, sent it back to Beretta, took over 6 months to get it back. While it was out for service, I picked up a Ruger Match Champion GP100. The MR73 is gorgeous, but I think I overall prefer the Ruger. I think I’d likely prefer the Korth to both of them. I don’t think I’ll get it, more interested in Semi autos, but happy to have them.
I have a 3" Mongoose and love it. You can tell right away that the craftsmanship is on another level. The DLC finish might not look classic, but it holds up amazingly. I'm over 2000 rounds and who knows how many dry fires, but there is no turn line and it looks brand new. The only negative comment i have about it is that it seems to have a bit more muzzle flip than my comparable Smiths. I wonder if that's actually because of the miniscule cylinder gap. I have never seen a blast coming from the gap no matter how hot the rounds. I definitely can't say the same for my Smiths.
Great video and beautiful revolvers! The history behind the Manhurin is very cool. The curious thing about the MR73 trigger is that it is intended to be a "combat" revolver, yet the grooved and sharp trigger is more of a single action feature. This one, intended to be shot mostly DA, should be smooth and radiused, like the Mongoose. Other than that, though, I'd love to have an MR73...especially since Beretta has purchased Manhurin. That should (theoretically) create a better support system for service, parts, etc. over time. Not sure what the guy in the comments below is talking about when he's "shocked" by the multiple "VERY" rough spots in the MR73 DA trigger pull...but I didn't see them and I'm guessing you didn't feel them?:) Gotta love RU-vid comments!
You have to remember that the reason why the GIGN, who developed the MR73 with Manurhin, wanted a revolver is that they found them more accurate (and reliable) than semi-auto pistols, especially for offensive shots, i.e. shots made in single action. So it made sense to have optimized the characteristics of the gun for single action shooting.
I would like to see all top reviewed revolvers compared. Would love to see one of these manufactures make a Rhino type revolver. And push revolver technology to the point it can’t progress anymore.

A knife sharpening stone works very well at smoothing sharp edges on the trigger. It takes time but it smooths without taking more metal than you want.
Thanks for another great video on two outstanding, high end revolvers. My favorite Korth is the 3" dual cylinder with the Hogue grips. The way Korth engineered the cylinder negating the need for moon clips is a marvel. I actually enjoy the 9mm cylinder more than the 38/357 Magnum cylinder. You should try one and I think you'd be impressed. The range of 9mm loads from mild to wild really showcases the versatility of the dual cylinder option. I totally agree with you on the DLC finish, it is one tough finish that doesn't show wear. My only problem ever with a Korth revolver is with their older 22 caliber versions. To date I have shot 4 of them and only 1 was reliable in double action. My dual cylinder 22LR/22 Mag Korth is a beautiful revolver that has been sitting at Nighthawk Custom for months while they work on it to get it to reliably function in double action. Keep these videos coming and if you ever decide to buy a dual cylinder Korth or Manurhin for that matter I think your opinion will change on shooting 9mm out of a revolver.
Can’t wait to see what you think of the Spohr when you finally get one. That L562 4” has been tempting my soul with a sexiness so irresistible it takes everything I have to wait for the n-frame 8 round models.
I love your reasoning regarding a "good shooting." A lot of gummy bears out there couldn't sprint all out for 30 seconds yet they're quick to mention how terrible it would be to lose a gun to evidence. Heart failures kill a lot more than criminals.
I have about a thousand rounds through my MR73 so far and I am in love with it. 800 magnums and 200 38spl. I agree with you about the Trausch grips. I am not a fan. I put a set of Nill grips on mine, and it made a world of difference.
Keep the revolver content coming!!! My biggest gripe about revolvers is the lack of options for sights. I’m color blind so I don’t see red very well and the S&W sights with the red polymer… is terrible for me.
That market has opened up quite a bit. Particularly for S&W. From tritium to fiber optic to Novak style rear sights. I agree with you completely. I hope that if I ever have to tangle with a bad guy, he will give me a moment to find my readers.
Thanks for the comparative video. I was curious to see how the Korth compared to the Manurhin as far as ergonomics goes. Some little inputs from my experience : - I had the same issue with the Trausch grip beavertail peeling off my knuckle skin (happened after only 30 rounds of 357 mags...). I carefully rounded off that beavertail edge with a razor blade then smoothened back the rubber with 500, then 1000 and 3000 oiled grit sandpaper. Feels better now. Part of the issue it that rubber has quite a bit of friction and immediately catch on the skin and stretch/tear it under recoil instead of slipping over it like a wooden grip would probably do. I might try some kind of varnish one day just for science. - If anything, Nill can build their grips to fit the MR73, I've seen a few on sales on this side of the Atlantic. - I have both a recent Chapuis made MR73 and an older Mulhouse made in the late 70's (ex-service). The trigger on the vintage one is quite noticeably smoother and the single action pull lighter than on the Chapuis despite my attempts at tuning the trigger to have the same pull on both. Maybe it's the manufacture, or maybe just that the service revolver has been drilled a lot and the Chapuis will catch up some day. Only time will tell. Congrats on owning these two top-notch revolvers sir !
I have had the same problem with my MR 73 tearing up the knuckle on my thumb. I fixed the grip by cutting some relief off the rubber at the corner where it hit my knuckle and then sanding it smooth. No more problem. I bought this revolver to shoot and if this is what it took to make it shoot able so be it. I have considered getting some aftermarket wood grips for it but see no need for them now.
i like that goofy release on the mongoose. it would work just fine with my stubby fingers. i just want a mongoose. the grip on the mr73 is also VERY appealing to me. i am just a lowly python guy now...but i think i want some new grips. i got these turkish ones but i want something a little more grippy and closer to what the mongoose comes with. the hogues were fine and i HATE the factory target grips
I have 2 Manuhrin the MR73 and one that kind of looks like a colt python, I think the number is MR96. Larger than the 73. The MR 96? is the most beautiful revolver I own. Both shoot well. I also have a 6" spohr that shoots as well for me as these. also have the tactical Korth which is so heavy hard to hold still. I had to send the Korth back to Nighthawk twice since timing was off and would not shoot without many duds. For me, the Korth is not nearly as accuarate as the other 3 and would not rebuy. the Manuhrin MR again I think 96 is my favorite but I shoot as well with the spohr.
on my korth 4", the little pins in the ejector worked their way out, and interfered with the timing arm, those pins should have been larger diameter and better seated. I think the ends were peened on installation, after tapping them back in i took the mushroom off with a fine diamond file I shouldn't have had that problem with a high end revolver. that said, in all other aspects it's an excellent revolver. BTW my korth does not like thick lubricants, finish line ceramic lubricant jammed it, crc power lube cleared the mechanism, triflow seems to work best.
You listed a number of negatives about the MR73 - the beaver tail cuts into the hand, the trigger has sharp edges for shooting without gloves, the finish is not as durable, the sights are not as easy to see. What I’m curious is, what makes it up for you for all these negatives, in order for you to still say that it’s a good as the Mongoose?
Great video!! Both are super nice ,and yes probably out of the price range of most folks sending negative comments. Quality counts!! Would you consider smoothing out those sharp edges on the trigger?? It seems you bought it to use not to collect and store away in pristine condition.
They are anti American guns, but the quality is different in different countries, if it is what you like , and how it shoots with you , that is enough end of story.
Basically, I paid four grand for a Model 19 that will last forever on a steady diet of maximum loads. That’s the MR73. Most remarkable is that it’s not remarkable, just built to last. I gave Bud’s their money in February 2022 and the gun showed up in November 2023. Not thrilled with the grooved trigger for double action, but I read that GIGN thought it better for use with gloves. I made small adjustments to mainspring and trigger return. I hear they often show up set a bit light for reliable double action ignition. My grandkids shoot this gun.
I have a newer model 19 classic which smith and wesson just brought back in the last few years. They are built much stronger compared to the older ones. They addressed all of the issues that the old one faced from having a heavy diet of magnum loads. Changes to the forcing cone and the way the cylinder locks are the improvements that address those issues. You should check them out.

@@327SixShooter The new model 19 is a significant improvement to the older models, and an excellent option. Shame that S&W quality control seems a bit hit and miss these days. Also, even with the old flaws corrected, it will not have the same durability as a MR73, owing to a much higher grade of steel for the Manurhin. But it's not the same price either...
Was it my imagination, or did the Korth not make any of the cylinder noises typically associated with revolver trigger pull? That Manurhin is on my list of must haves. The Spohr definitely has my attention. Also, I can't recommend Southern Trapper for your holster needs any more than I do. He makes holsters worthy of these types of guns.
I can't stand the "I only carry a $200 pistol cause it will be confiscated" kind of people. Their life might be confiscated when their tactical, pot metal poo jams when they need it most. 😂
I have an MR73, and it's definitely not "delicate". It's designed and built for a steady diet of test loads, so pretty much anything from a factory won't be a problem.
German guns > french guns any day of the week. The manuerin might have been able to take that many rounds of 357 when the OG company made them but chapius is known for making low end luxury guns, they put a bunch of polish on the outside, but internals are usually rough and the steel isn't as hard as would be expected. Just from this video I can clearly see tooling marks of the mr73's cylinder face...... I have handled and shot both guns and imo the Korth is superior in every way. You want a highly polished finish? have a look at the Korth classic which can be had for a few thousand more, they do an awesome color called purple bronze.

Well, this pricing nonsense works for Leica cameras, why not for a couple of guns? There is absolutely NOTHING that can be done to any revolver that would actually result in them being worth these prices. NOTHING!! And the funny thing is that when you show the double action pull of the Manurhin, I can SEE the crummy action, 'in action'! Now, I fully expected both of these guns to have great double action pull. So, when I saw you pull that trigger, I sat bolt upright in surprise when I realized how awful that trigger pull is! (The Korth looked pretty decent.) You passed over three or four VERY rough spots on your way to release. I SAW IT!! THe thing is, when people pay that kind of over-the-top price for something, they take home both the object purchased and a new religion they will defend to the end, no matter how the thing ACTUALLY behaves. And to top it all off, you describe how "sharp" the trigger edges are, in detail, and how the trigger injured your finger, yet you STILL don't catch on that your "Leica" is actually just a garden variety mutt of a revolver! Oh brother, have you ever got religion!!

Never been interested in Korth but that M73 i would love to have. In my opinion the Smith and Wesson 29-2 is the most well thought out and comfortable revolver i have ever held. I have the new production Python it would be second. I need to get my hands on the Kimber K6 that the revolver i want next.
Damn dude, those are nice. I have a S&W 686 + PowerPort. I had to buy a PowerPort and a 686 7 shot to build it. The porting on the powerport barrel is bleh. I got it because it looked cool. 6" barrel with a set back Patridge front sight. Also have some SL Variant speedloaders for it. They're not cheap but they're easy to load ammo into and only require a press into the cylinder to release. Trigger job, chamfered cylinder holes. It's my dream revolver thst didn't cost much as I sold the leftover gun. But I've never been jealous of another revolver until I watched your video. That 6" Korth really got my attention. That thing is nice. I was considering getting a MR73 a few years back when Beretta started importing them. I got a HK SP5 instead. I can really only afford a weapon in those price ranges every 2 or 3 years. Usually I upgrade something overtime and only get the sticker shock if I add everything up. I like the Pythons. I've had two of them. One 4",Stainless and a 6"Blued. But you can't shoot them like a MR73 or that Mongoose. Or even like my S&W for that matter. I'm big on 9mm but when I need a handgun that has more effect on target it I find it best to skip over all the .40 45, or even 10mm and just go to .357 mag. Which will kill anything alive in my state, New Mexico. I'm 30 miles outside Albuquerque so if the polar bears or African lions escape the zoo I'm sure it will be dealt with before I have a chance to run into them. Those are some nice revolvers man. Very impressive. Too bad that MR73 beats up on your hand though. There are some iconic handguns that do that. Walther PPK and the Browning HI-Power are two that come to mind. There are two handguns everyone should own . A reliable double stack 9mm auto and a .357 mag with a 4" or longer barrel. Not the most concealable handguns but that will take care of anything that doesn't require a rifle to deal with.
Thank you for this interesting video. I did never have the opportunity to hold or shoot a Korth. But I can shoot both a MR-73 Sport (5.25") and a MR-32 Match. Both are perfectly well made, trigger included, and have an orthopedic grip. I shoot both with match (wadcutter) ammunition only. The MR-32 Match is as accurate as any match grade .22 I did ever shoot (Haemmerli & Walther). The MR-73 Sport is very close. The sights of these revolvers are target sights designed for bullseye shooting (with a "six o clock hold"). Today most of them are sold as target/match revolver and collection pieces.
