A visit to the tops above Munyang. Winter 2023 #8 : Munyang - Schlink trail to Horse camp aqueduct trail - A snow covered ridge to the tops above 1900 metres - Return.
Distance : About 10 km return.
Walking conditions : Tracks and snowshoe walking.
Notes : This normally heath covered (and practically impassable) ridge gives a direct line of passage to the tops when it is snow covered in winter. The southern edge of the ridge keeps its snow late into the season. The bleak areas above Munyang are interconnected with the tops above Guthega trig.
A word from experience when descending this ridge - This is the type of ridge that is great to ascend but becomes a nightmare of dividing knolls in descent. I was relying on my own tracks on this day, but the way down is not as obvious without them. The heath is massive in this area, and is very unpleasant to get stuck in.
