I have already shown kothavarangai usili recipe in the channel.
Kothavarangai usili is typically made by steaming the soaked and blended lentils separately
But traditionally there was also one more method of doing it without separately steaming the lentils.
I have shown that method in thus video
Ti 1 cup water add 500g chopped cluster beans and cook till done
To a mixer jar add
1/2 cup chana dal soaked in water for 1 hour and drained
1/4 cup toor dal soaked in water for 1 hour and drained
5 dry red chillies soaked in water for 1 hour and drained
Salt
A small pinch asafoetida
Blend to a coarse paste without adding water
Heat 1/4 cup oil
To hot oil add
1tsp mustard seeds
1tsp urad dal
1 dry red chilli
Curry leaves
Add the blended paste
Add turmeric powder and some salt
Mix well and stir on a high flame for 2 minutes
Lower the flame and add 2 tbsp water
Cover and cook on a very low flame for 2 minutes
After 2 minutes
Stir and make a well at the centre
Add 2 tbsp oil
Add the cooked cluster beans
Mix well and cover and cook on a very low flame for 7 minutes while stirring intermittently
After 7 minutes you can see the lentils and vegetables have an amazing texture and taste yummy.
