10:37 kotlin compiler is not smart enought to understand that dog is extending animal, but, it's how the List class is defined in kotlin, List, because of the out property it's working. Kudos to the efforts though, thanks for sharing !!

I think you mixed up the fact that mammals are animals and not animals are mammals. Makes it more confusing in my opinion...

Wouldn't it be Animal->Mammal->Dog ?
