I lived there when I was a boy ... It is pity that I don't understand German. This documentary is very good indeed. It shows the real situation.... Although the people were poor, they all were hard-working and felt happy to each dollar they earned.....
The writer (Hugo Portisch) and the narrator (Otto Clemens) are both austrian. I'm not entirely sure about the production itself but I'd say it's a pretty safe bet that it's austrian too.
There used to be a version with subtitles. Where is it? This is a rare, historical documentary, and it needs to stop disappearing from RU-vid . This doc. should be available as an exclusive offering and have subtitles in multiple languages.

brilliant documentary - shame my German isn't great, but I get the jist. Can someone please tell me what the man is making who is cooking round circles of dough on a hot plate? I couldn't work out the German description!
because the trash and feces was piled so high the lower levels weren't even accessible. Also lack of water, as the wells they dug illegally dried up long ago.
@@SuperHoneyOil huh? They had access to the city's water and the bottom floor was still accessable when they evacuated it. So much so they used it to film several movies

We look at this and be like ...oh fuck no ...but Chinese folk are geniuses at making stuff work for them ...its far from perfect and it's quite scary but it was home wen they didn't have one. Not going to lie I would have been scared out of my mind but i cant fault people for making something out of nothing
