This is my first run of my model steam engine. This is a Kozo A3 switcher, running at Golden Gate Live Steamers (GGLS) track, Tilden Park, Berkeley, CA. The engine is 1.5" scale and runs on 7.5" gauge track. The engine was built using the book, "Building the A3 Switcher" by Kozo Hiraoka and was scaled up from 3/4" scale to 1.5" scale. It took me about 4 years to build. I machined all the parts from mild steel bar stock and cast iron bar. It is, for the most part, completely scratch built using Kozo's excellent instructions. The only castings used were for the drive wheels and a few common parts like coupler pockets and tender steps. Copper, brass and bronze were used for all steam and water plumbing. Water supply is via axle pump, hand pump and steam injector. It burns propane and weighs about 225lbs (320lbs with tender).
