EPICA Reaction Video! this band has been highly requested so it was about time xD If you'd like to support me on Patreon!: / giddykitty Social Media: Instagram: / giddykitty94 Twitter: ki... Thanks for watching! :3'
Epica got their name from an album by American symphonic metal Band Kamelot. Epica's lead singer Simone Simons' husband Oliver Palotai is the keyboard player in that band and Simone has sung on their albums too. Epica was founded by Rhythm Guitarist Mark Jansen who used to be in the same band as Floor Jansen ( no relation) called After Forever
I guess second song was Consign To Oblivion @ Zenith?) This show was Epica's anniversary, so they invited live orchestra. In "daily" tours they, like Nightwish, are using prerecorded orchestral backtracks, Floor and Simone (Epica's frontwoman) are close friends, and she (Simone) was pregnant at that moment ;) Their music is much heavier generally, this song is on a soft side.
@@Zandman26 One of my two favourite EPICA songs... The other is Requiem for the Indifferent (I ain't into catchy stuff all that much, and I love all the Death Metal elements Requiem for the Indifferent has...).
Simone and Floor are indeed both one of a kind and same caliber...nice reaction! And yes they know each other and did some touring together back in the day..
Floor has a higher range (even tho Tuomas was kinda dumb for not using it and the whole EFMB album was just a borefest in the E5-F5 mezzo range) and I think is closer to a dramatic soprano while for a huge part of Simone's career, she had considered herself a mezzo-soprano and only in recent years is that she started considering herself a soprano (most probably cuz her range is on the lower edge of where a normal soprano reaches). So she is a lyric soprano at best. So actually different vocals. Yeah, I just checked - Simone barely hits C6-C#6 (C6 is the minimum highest note for someone to be classified as a soprano) while Floor can solidly reach D6 at least
@@jaapblaauw3735 This isn't an opinion, these are objective analysis of their vocal styles lol. There are different types of vocals, and by just some reading everyone, even a full newbie like I used to be, can get a grasp and start classifying sopranos/mezzo-sopranos/altos by their own. And no, I'm definitely not a OH MA GAD, NIGHTWISH DA BEST EVAR fan - I definitely highly prefer Epica, but when we are comparing vocals-wise, even me, the one who has Epica as their equally N1 favourite band alongside 3 others (Nightwish not included), can say that Floor's voice is different and has a wider range compared to Simone's. This is Floor's vocals' characteristics musical-elegy.tumblr.com/post/33175863697/floor-jansen-the-new-nightwish-goddess And this is Simone's: musical-elegy.tumblr.com/post/41113552621/simone-simonsepica-vocal-range And if we are talking about opinions - alright, defend it. Say facts, numbers, arguments to defend it - like I did. This is how you do things in life - your statements should be based on arguments which you should be ready to give.
I really don't care if these two super talented women are a Soprano or Mezzo. For me Floor is #1 female vocalist and Simone #2, but if it comes to both bands Epica and Nightwish my preference is Epica because they are heavier and love the combination of Mark's harsh vocals in combination with the angelic voice of Simone!
aight, something you need to know is that this concert was a special 10-year anniversary, and to celebrate they brought in a live orchestra/choir, a lot of bands usually have the orchestra playing on a track (which epica usually does as well) so there have actually been other bands you have listened to which had an orchestra (ghost love score for example) but none of these had a live I love Floor, she is my favorite singer, but Epica is by far my favorite band, here some of my favorite reaction songs Kingdom of heaven (live) (its unofficial i believe, there is also a remastered non-live lyric video as of recently) essence of silence (official live) consign to oblivion (official live) chasing the dragon (live) cry to the moon (studio live performance kinda thing) actually the list goes on and on, i once send a 3 a4 word document with links to the songs they should react to lol my personal favorite sadly isnt done much live, "tides of time" and i believe the studio version is worth a listen (though maybe not worth a reaction sadly, it is a very sad song so maybe you will cry and get those sweet sweet views in? :D)
React to Stabat Mater Dolorosa from the same show with Floor too (it’s a cover and it’s a balad but they sound great) -they are great friends tho- if you want something a little heavier react to Storm The Sorrow oficial video ❤️ PD: Simone (Epica singer) was pregnant here and sang for 3 hours straight!
Stabat Mater is a Christian 13th-century hymn to Mary, mother of Jesus. Wikipedia lists dozens of composers who have written music for it, from the 16th century to the present. I did not recognize which one they used in the show though, maybe someone else here can tell.
@@rabiatorthegreat6163 It's the one composed by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. The whole thing is definitely worth the almost 40 minutes it takes to listen to it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qzOmPUu-F_M.html This would be a good one to listen to, if you're interested.
Oh thank you very much dear Rana for this awesome reaction! Now you know why I wear an Epica shirt, haha... I'm glad you like my recommendation:-) You've mentioned the awesome chemistry between these two amazing ladies, indeed they come both from the Netherlands and are close friends! The singer from Epica, Simone Simons, once said that Nightwish were a huge idol for her when she was very young, and inspired her to learn this kind of epic singing and to form her own symphonic metal band... Of course there would be a lot more songs from Epica to recommend, but I have another gold piece of an epic duet for you: Please try "The best duet ever", it's a special event life performance with Sharon den Adel and Anneke van Giersbergen, two other amazing dutch symphonic metal singers...you find it on RU-vid at once, when you enter the title! Your heart will melt away, I promise:-)❤
im asuming the 10 minute song you mentioned is kingdom of heaven... in which case, looking at your reaction so far (halfway through) you are ready... :)
@@user-ii6gm4vj5b well its not like she specified the exact duration, lets be frank, it could be a lot of songs if its around 10 minutes, i just mentioned the most populair one (and in a later comment i put some other songs like that)
You should react to something from their dvd "we will take you with us", maybe the song "Cry for the moon", or the song "The phantom agony". It´s a very well produced dvd, where tey are accompanied by an orchestra and a choir. Or you could also react to one of their songs with more of an epic feeling, imo: "Beyond the matrix".
They are also the best of friends. No, no stop that! No windmilling! Too sexy beautiful lady. This was a very special show for Epica. They don't usually have an orchestra and choir at their live shows. Great reaction video. Sancta Terra means Holy Land in Latin. Great job GiddyKitty! Peace out!
Floor and Simone (Or as we like to call them, Xena and Gabrielle XD ) have been close friends for many years, this is why they have such chemistry. Way back when, Floor was in a band called After Forever with someone called Mark Jansen (no family relation). Mark left After Forever due to creative differences and went on to found Epica along with his girlfriend at the time - Simone. Mark Jansen is one of the guitarists in Epica and also does growls and harsh vocals. He's the one you hear shout "Floor Jansen!" at the very end.
Sancta terra means Holy land. (Promised land) Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band with frontwoman Simone Simons. Floor was once Simone's vocal coach, so she did learned a lot from Floor. They are close friends for more than 10 years. Guest-singer Floor Jansen (founder After Forever) knows Mark Jansen (founder of Epica and former rhythm guitarist in Floor's After Forever) even longer. After his departure from After Forever in 2002 Mark founded Epica. So that's why it is highly expected Floor is featuring at this Live Retrospect show. Mark's surname is equal to Floor's, but they are no relatives. There are also more Jans(s)en(s) members of the band but they are no family. Jansen/Janssen/Janssens are just a very common names in the Netherlands.
loved the reaction tnx. they are good friends in real life, so the chemistry comes naturally. i think simone is an amazing singer, such a pure tone to her voice...
Doppelganger indeed, by design too...and to get a closer feel for Simone, try the acoustic version of Martyr for the Free World. Stripped down, it gives you a very good idea of what she's about, along with feeding your new girl crush... And for a few more peers of Floor, check out "Valley of the Queens" from Ayreon Universe... or a live performance of "Numbered" by Gentle Storm. There is something in the Dutch waters that produces such singers...
the founder and lead guitar of Epica is Mark Jansen (no relation to Floor); however they were band mates in After Forever, which Mark left to form Epica.....also, Floor had vocal coached Simone Simons, (Epica vocalist) in the past....(and they're both Dutch).....Simone was several months pregnant at the time.....
It IS a great duet. Simone (front lady of epica) Took a lot of voice lessons from Floor (front lady of Nightwish) Floor taught and might still teach voice lessons . Plus they are good friends too. Simone was also pregnant when they did this song. So I heard. Also One of the guitar players in Epica was in Floors band After Forever for a few years before floor went to Nightwish. Floor was also doing songs from her other band ReVamp while she was in Nightwish for a little bit. Then she eventually committed to Nightwish only.
I *slapped* the like button as soon as the video starts! *EPICA* haha sorry for the bad pun/Davie504 reference! 🤣 *OMG* a new video from GiddyKitty!! oh man, it feels like forever since the last video but oh well, its *EPIC* especially when you headbang, I love it!! :3 I love your reaction video as always! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ have some more tacos! 🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮🌮
Floor never was Simone vocal coach. Amanda Somerville was but not Floor. When Simone joined Epica Mark was not in good terms with Floor and After Forever at all.
They sounded amazing together indeed! :D I am somewhat new to Nightwish and Epica. I was always a fan, and still are, of Within Temptation but want to expand and learn more about Nightwish and Epica, too. Watching multiple reaction videos to either Within Temptation, Nightwish or EPica make me more and more proud that all these three goddesses come from my little country! Like, dang!
The name of this band comes from a and album from the band - Kamelot !!! There’s where the inspiration comes. So; perhaps you can check out this band, this album I can recommend you “center of the universe” !!!😋
Just have to say smiling is contagious and it is really hard not to smile watching you react to videos , cause you are always smiling....thank you for that... if you like orchestra try ''Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah Therion Miskolc Experience Goes Classic'' you will be amazed.
They have featured Floor over 10 years, also Simone and Floor were Mayan band first singers. Check out Epica - Tides of Time ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sn765tJuaoE.html
I like to inform you that NW is also using (opera) choirs (and several times The London Symphony Orchestra) for their background sound/vocals and put those on tape. They mixes those pre-recorded tapes on their studio albums and at live shows as well in order to complete their sound and make you experience their songs as a movie soundtrack.
this is the first time you have seen floor having fun? i think somebody should tell this pretty young lady about, nightwish, i want my tears back ;) from their latest vid, if you wanna see floor having great fun, watch that kitty girl :) and great reaction btw
Epica is overall a looooooot more compositionally variable band compared to Nightwish. They use a choir that is superior to any vocal harmonies/arrangements Nightwish has ever done, then they would use male growls for a contrast, then Simone Simons' clean vocals (sometimes semi- or almost fully operatic). They would also use tempo shifts - from slower/average tempo, to actually some thrash/death-styled aggressive riffing. Add in some orchestral and balladic parts and you get the whole masterful picture. Almost the same description can be used for Sirenia only with the difference they have a more gothic take on the symphonic metal genre. And some actually doom-esque parts so yeah, they are the second contenders for Variety Kings (or just Kings) of Symphonic metal
Floor Jansen = Xena Warrior Princess. Simone Simons (the redhead vocalist from Epica) = Gabrielle. Right down to near appearance, stature, and the fact that Floor trained Simone as a vocal coach. I will say that while Gabrielle... I mean Simone is an exquisite vocalist in the operatic and head voice tones, but she does not have the same all style versatility that Floor has. Simone even once said that Tarja Turunen (first Nightwish vocalist) was one of her main influences, and the same description is made for Tarja that applies to Simone. I'm surprised you felt this was the first time you heard an orchestra. Epica generally just utilizes the string section and choir of an orchestra, whereas most Nightwish song utilize a full orchestra (choir, percussion, strings, wind, brass, and Troy Donockley). As for the orchestration being live, this was a special 10 year anniversary show for Epica. Like Nightwish, they can't tour with an orchestra, the logistics (not to mention expense) would be a nightmare, so generally, the orchestration is on a backing track.
Love your reactions , have you ever listened to a Norwegian female singer called Aurora ? A song called Queendom is a great introduction . Enjoy as much as I did
Epica is a Dutch band and Simone Simons sure can sing and the band can play. No Doubt. Floor Jansen is Dutch too and was invited. They sounded great together. But truth be told Floor was holding back not wanting this to be a vocal competition. She was there as a guest artist and acted accordingly.
Just love how people tell to react to within temptation with anneke, but who knew Sharon and Floor did a duet in "After forever" time? The 3 dutch angelic voices are just another level.
There are only two female singers who are close to the goddess like level of Floor. Tarja Turunen, former Nightwish front women, and Simone Simons, Epica. Other than that, no one can even dare to compete with the powerhouse that is Floor Jansen! Thanks to Tarja Nightwish is the band they are; however, thanks to Floor Nightwish are in a league of their own and therefore untouchable! And the runner up band is Epica.

According to an Epica interview this song is part of a concept album and about a dude who killed himself and others in the name of his god and thinks throughout the song that he's in heaven and is finally safe...truthfully he is in hell.
You'll love this, Floor in her blonde ReVamp days rehearsing a ReVamp song 'Sweet Curse' at Simone's house and getting silly: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LjvXo5GRvxI.html
Welcome to Epica!! If you liked this one, they will blow your mind. Try these - Epica - Tides of Time (studio version) Epica - Design Your Universe (Retrospect live) Epica - Chasing the Dragon (Retrospect live) Epica - Cry for the Moon (“We will take you with us” live)
Giddy, go a little further north geographically and check out the Vikings. First, try Wardruna with Aurora, then Eivor Plasdottir (Faroe Islands), next the more mystical Heilung and Skald and finally, south a little for the Germanic Faun. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
GiddyKitty....Floor and Simone are Besties. They sing and practice at each others homes. Simone is with child during this duet. Floor has a blast singing Last Ride Of The Day at Wacken.
Nice reaction;! Épica is one of the best symphonic-metal bands, Also therion and haggard are awesome!! Floor was in the same band with Mark jensen ( épica bassist) in afterforever Kingdom of heaven is a great song of épica There are many songs amazings Simone is a great singer and Mark also sings
