Hey everyone, the final song and video 'Dun Dun Dance' was blocked and we had to cut it out. What a bummer. ATOM gave a score of 9.5 and Kazinho gave it a score of 9.75. Hope you all enjoy nonetheless!

Thank you for reacting to the girls! Imo I feel like Oh My Girl is the only girl group after Red velvet that could pull off this 'quirky and unsettling' vibe in Kpop. The difference is that Red Velvet focuses more on undertone eerie concept, meanwhile Oh my Girl feels more elegant, yet yearning. . Oh My Girl is also one of the fewer 3rd gen groups (3rd gen refers to groups that debuted around 2014-2016) that know their vocal range really well. They hardly sound unlistenable to my ears. All are very smooth sounding even though they don't have many vocalists with such unique vocal tones (except for the main vocal), in comparison to Red Velvet who are known for their distinctive vocal colours. Even so, they work well as a group even if their choruses are not sung together in unison (again in comparison to Red velvet cause they're the only girl group that still sing the choruses together). Other 3rd gen girl groups that I think know their vocals and blend really well as a group is Lovelyz and LaBoum (you may want to check them out as well)

Everyone has different taste. Based on the discord, the production is probably the most important part for Kazinho, while Atom seems to prefer more upbeat pure pop (for K-Pop at least)... so their scores didn't surprise me. Personally I love Closer and all of OMG's pre-Queendom stuff... once it became all summer songs like Nonstop, they kind of lost their identity to me? But I know other people are the exact opposite. Plus, if you like a song, who cares what other people think! You liking it is enough validation. If a song brings joy to even one person, it's done its job.

@@kribeginDefinitely agree. The more viewers they have, the more it feels like people are trying to choose songs they think they will like. The thing is, based off of some music discussions in Discord, most people have it a bit wrong? It's not really a certain sound they look for, it's more in the production and whether the top line vocals and production meet each other 50/50. But I wish people would kind of stop trying to tailor their recommendations to give the best scores and just give the best representation of a group's career.

Hmmm I've been trying to understand the logic of the criticisms especially of the fifth season, especially the so called problems with transitions, and honestly I am not convinced by your reasoning. Oh My Girl songs take you on a journey, and the fifth season is arguably their best song at doing this. The transitions feel really smooth. I don't see your vision at all. The second half of the chorus/refrain is the peak and the lush instrumental that enters is just transcendental. I think it feels like it would be better if you would instead say that the musical choices probably don't match my taste rather than saying the producers are just doing wrong... Because they clearly click for a lot of people. Especially for the fifth season. It is a legendary song within the community for a good reason. At least with Kazinho, he is very articulate and even if i don't agree, he reasoning is more substantial and logical and easier to understand, but when Atom tries to criticize something, it just cones off as a normal person being unable to explain why they don't like something with substantial depth. At this point, I just watch this channel for the sake of Kazinho's insights which I feel can enrich my musical knowledge while not agreeing with all of them.

To be fair any song that gets recommend is likely a song that resonates with a lot of people. By this logic it seems like it would be invalid to criticize any recommended or popular song? Of course it may feel better to fans if they said it just wasn’t to their personal tastes though (and that ultimately is what it comes down to when making criticisms) but I personally prefer them not “catering” their reviews to please fans because I watch for the reviews, not to have my opinions or feelings validated.

In this episode, it just wasn't well explained especially with Atom's case. Never have I implied that it would be invalid to criticize any recommended/popular song, they just didn't do a good job at it here.

The Fifth Season is one of my favorite OMG songs of all time but I have to admit the transition to the refrain does feel a bit out of place for me, like it could've been done better and more in-line with the overall concept. I will agree that sometimes I feel Atom doesn't explain his opinion well though.

no not really, they reacted to gfriend's songs (arguably similar style to oh my girls) and they liked it! so it just comes down to personal taste and how even though omg's songs are of similar genre to gf's, it's how omg's songs were arranged and mixed compared to similar songs like gfriend that (probably in their opinion) had better arrangement and mixing.

I'm personally a lover of their songs 'Cupid' and 'Liar Liar' which are earlier songs for them. Their live performances are fantastic. One of my favourite performances was of them doing a cover of another groups song 'Destiny' on a competition show called Queendom. Fun Fact: Oh My Girl got second place in the competition. Mamamoo were the winners. G-idle also competed on the same show.

Miracle here. I feel a mixture of feelings. I love all of Oh My Girl songs. I’m shocked at the rating for ssfwl, but I do think there could be room for more in the production of some of the songs. The girls vocals and ethereal concept is what made me a fan. My favorite group. I’m proud you recognize the girls’ talents. As for the underproduction of some of the songs, I don’t think they are horrible, maybe just a different vision. I do agree that some could definitely used a little more developments in the music. I still enjoyed seeing you both react to Oh My Girl. These songs hold a lot of precious memories and feelings for us Miracles.

many ppl don't recognize the chorus because there was no certain DROP as to where the chorus starts/will start in the song and it seems like the pre-chorus and chorus were connected in this one. that is because once the KICKS starts off at the pre-chorus, which is the "SARANGSEUREON GEUTTAEUI.." part of YooA, it continues up to the end of chorus. it's continuously building up which what the pre-chorus does for most of the songs. if you listen closely, the chorus will start at the lyrics "NUNEUL GAMEUMYEON (REMEMBER ME)". the CUE for you to know which part is the chorus for this song is the strings on the background at this part. now, if they were to use the last chorus (first part where YooA and Jiho sings), this chorus is much more recognizable as there were kicks AND CLAPS as well unlike the first two choruses earlier on the song which only has KICKS, indicating build-up.

Thanks for the reaction! I personally love all of these songs aside from Dun Dun Dance, but I totally understand your criticisms and find them valid. I wish the person who recommended OMG gave you a wider variety of their songs because like Atom said, most of these ones kind of all had a similar vibe and motif. It would've been interesting to see your guys' opinions on some of their more adventurous and dynamic tracks like Windy Day, Cupid, and especially Drip.

its interesting how you guys picked up on the poor production that oh my girl were given. since they're under a smaller company, their mixing, production & creative vision was lacking and it could've easily been the cause of them fading into the background amongst other kpop girlgroups doing the same genre at that time however, like you said - the girls' vocal execution and their delivery of the lines as well as personalities was what saved them from tanking. oh my girl's music is solely theirs and something only their true fans would love. thats why whenever recommending OMG's music, i prefer the reactor to watch their content first before delving in to understand their journey and their process to becoming what they are now.

You guys aren't being too harsh. OMG was always a group only their fans could truly love. They languished for their entire career in obscurity even in the domestic market until Dun Dun Dance. They weren't horrible, obviously. They just served a consistent level of quality for this particular sound but never really experimented with anything else. Also there were many other groups who did this concept much better during its heyday like Apink's "LUV", GFRIEND's "Me Gustas Tu", Lovelyz "Ah-choo", APRIL's "April Story," plus more I'm probably forgetting.

This is not accurate AT ALL. They're a fairly popular gg in Korea, maybe not with the public like Twice or Blackpink but hardly obscure for the most part. Also why are you talking like they disbanded already? Nonstop was the first major hit not Dun Dun Dance. Nonstop did extremely well on the charts. Before that they were mid-tier and also gained popularity in Queendom. They didn't just get a hit out of nowehere. Also idk what your basis is for comparing the other groups to them. Apink and Gfriend are iconic groups but Lovelyz and April better than them? lol

@@ooooo000ooooo You're right, Nonstop was their first real hit as they got a lot of new fans from being on Queendom. They won all the music shows with it. But music shows are very much their own little world and it's not the best indicator of popularity. It was Dun Dun Dance that really pushed them into the public consciousness. Like when you live in Korea, there are certain celebrities/groups that become the IT thing, and Dun Dun Dance was that for them. That song got them popular enough to start appearing on tv variety shows, get CF's, have their faces in front of every little shop, have their song blasting in every cafe, that kind of thing. But when I was comparing other groups, I meant during Secret Garden era, that innocent youth/fairy concept. Those songs by the Lovelyz and APRIL were much better charting or better quality from my personal bias. APRIL and Oh My Girl were very comparable at one time. And yes OMG is still going, but they've basically gone back to their previous levels of song quality and popularity. Their rise is/was very similar to Brave Girls and Rollin'. Public sympathy followed by a solid hit that pushed them into the A-tier then back to normal.

@@nawhead Agree to disagree then. You're not giving OMG enough credit because of what you admit is bias. I'm just correcting what I see are objectively wrong points about their career. I wasn't talking about Music shows which many idol groups have won but domestic CHARTS which actually point to GP recognition. Being #1 on Melon which Nonstop did is definitely not a mean feat and not just anything most groups can do. Also they don't have that much in common with Brave Girls. Brave Girls had no solid fanbase unlike OMG before their first hit and didn't even reach 1/10th the album sales that OMG already had prior to Nonstop. Brave Girls didn't even last more than 2 years after Rollin' because of it. Can't build a career on one hit and at least OMG had more going for them. Also if anything April are the ones more like Brave Girls. They were much less successful than OMG. They mostly had fickle male fans like Brave Girls which is also another factor in lacking longevity while OMG has a stronger female fandom.

If i recommend this group i would put promoting the group to wider public in mind instead of here's my favorite song please react to it. I'd say Secret Garden > Remember Me > Bungee > Dun Dun Dance > Nonstop is the correct order and song to bring people in on the boat.

Hopped around to a few of the videos y'all have posted -- and it sounds like y'all are musically trained and mostly critiquing the arrangement, mixing, and production of these songs/groups. Oh My Girl's Closer is probably the only song I like of theirs, but I do agree that it does get boring. A lot of girl groups' songs get boring for me, so what pulls it together is the sonic arrangement (Mamamoo's Paint Me being one example) or the strength of the vocals (Red Velvet and Mamamoo). [I largely listen to Dreamcatcher mostly in terms of kpop these days, and float in the indie/alt/rock and EDM scene for the large portion of my music tastes.]

What a weird choice for songs, I personally would suggest 'Bungee', 'Nonstop', 'Dolphin', 'Dun Dun Dance', and 'Real Love'. Thanks for the video, tho!
