Anyone who knows Kraft mostly for their cheese products, is severely underestimating this company. They've had an impressive and complicated history that expands far beyond what the average consumer may realize.

You have no idea HOW excited I was to see this posted! J.L Kraft is my 3x great uncle. His younger sister, Ivy Mae Kraft (originally Krafft - J.L's grandparents came from Germany in the early 1800s) is my great, great grandmother. My family still has old family photos, a published family recipe book from the 80's, and still live in the same town where the family's from. Edit: I had no idea about the Kraft television theater! 😁 really amazing to learn new information on the days when J.L was alive, after so many years of family stories! Fun family tale: I've been told the second F in Krafft was dropped, because a signmaker forgot the second F on a sign made for one of his first business ventures and he just went with it. My assumption now is that it was dropped to sound less German, since it seems as if all his siblings legally went by Kraft (census records and such confirm this, doesnt seem like a business decision but rather their parents decision)😁

@orangeradishneo
@orangeradishneo 3 года назад
@@deantan4080 I'm not entirely sure about any monetary gain family have received, I wish I knew! J.L had one daughter, who married and had 3 kids (still alive today by my records). So there's only 3 'direct' decendants of J.L I know of. Rest of us are all extended family, great neices and nephews! It doesn't seem like the brothers that worked with him at Kraft had any kids, most of the decendants come from J.Ls sisters! One of them being my great, great grandmother, who had 12 kids herself! And half HER kids (one is my great grandma, who died just after I was born) went onto have their own kids! It's crazy how big families can get with just a few generations! I'm obsessed with browsing through my family tree, seeing all the different people I'm related to in some way or another. My uncle has over 11k people on his tree! I'm extremely privileged to be able to trace back so much of my family history.

Interesting fact: both Borden Dairy and Philadelphia Cream Cheese can trace their histories back to Orange County, NY, which was home to the first refrigerated rail delivery of dairy products in the world. Philadelphia Cream Cheese was actually invented just down the road from the rail line it would later go on for the historic trip. The rails were torn up decades ago but the train station it was loaded up from still stands.

I love this nostalgia. What's particularly touching is relating the obsolete concept of market forces and wise vs. tragic market decisions on an entity's deserved survival or its (appropriate) demise. Naturally these are prehistoric concepts, because the Federal Reserve has now been empowered to literally inject cash into any entity it chooses. LITERALLY. All a company has to do is cry "wolf." I mean, cry, Covid impairment. Therefore market disciplines no longer exist. So this prehistoric concept of sane, inviolable market principles is amusing nostalgia !

@@littleredpony6868 And it is UNLIMITED. Not figuratively; not virtually; but literally. That is science fiction worthy grotesqueness. This exact behavior is happening right now. All "connected" airlines, "connected" hotels, ships, carmakers, really all of travel and entertainment, food suppliers, fitness chains - they are backstopped by effectively the very same broad entity that destroyed those sectors. Talk about perverseness. Ain't war hell?

This is nothing but Soviet Communistic takeover of industry. Prove me wrong. It's being rolled out hand in hand with Socialist handouts of unimaginable absurdness. Paying people to not return to work. Paying people to not pay rent. Paying businesses to not pay rent. Socialist takeover of health care. This is the system that resulted in the greatest empire annihilation in history, the 1991 U.S.S.R.. And it's happening in 2021 in real time. And all the voters (at least in the caricature presented by the complicit media) do is say "Thank you. More free stuff, please."

In addition to Kraft Television Theater, the company sponsored the long-running Kraft Music Hall variety series and Kraft Mystery Theater, in addition to many high-profile television variety specials in the 1970's and 80's. One passing observation: There is no longer the familiar Nabisco triangle logo on the Triscuit box, which makes me wonder if Mondelez is planning to do away with Nabisco branding entirely.

i like how you always make your videos very informative but concise. i think a video covering the rise and fall of justice or claire’s would be interesting to watch. as a 15 year old justice was really big in elementary school, but in middle school it’s considered lame if you shop there aside from having that one lunchbox with a letter corresponding to the first one in your name, you know the one lol. aside from growing out of it i feel like something changed about their stores. when i was 12-13 i was still in that older kids group they try to appeal to, but they ruin a lot of their clothes by slapping their name on the front, with obnoxious amounts of glitter, sequence, and very out of date pop-culture references. if i remember correctly i felt like it was a little overpriced to, but then again i didn’t know much about personal finances when i was that age. they’ve been closing their stores recently and they’re pretty scarce. claire’s has been closing a bunch of locations as well but personally i still like that store. they have cute things and it’s cheap, especially the jewelry and it looks nice. you can get your ears pierced for free but DON’T. they’re not properly trained to do so and piercing guns can lead to complications. i think it’s concerning that they’ll pierce cartilage with those. ear lobes sure whatever, a needle’s still better but anything else absolutely not. not sure about claire’s but my younger cousins are elementary school aged and one starting middle school, and none of them really go to justice that i know of. i worked with some younger elementary school aged kids this summer and i think a couple of them might’ve gotten something from claire’s before? they’re a little too young to really want to go there. anyways, justice doesn’t seem nearly as popular as it was when i was their age. interestingly, i noticed very recently justice has been selling things at walmart and they’re not bad. i wonder why no one shops there anymore

Back in the 1980s, RJR Nabisco owned both Kentucky Fried Chicken and the original incarnation of the Zantigo fast food Mexican restaurant chain. In 1986/1987, both chains were sold to Pepsi, with a majority of Zantigo's locations converted to Taco Bell.

They recently closed a Nabisco plant about 10 minutes from where I live in NJ and the entire community was very sad about it. Not only because of the jobs and the ratables, but the smells that would waft out of the plant were absolutely amazing. Many officials were saying it was a cost cutting measure, and others claim the jobs are "going to Mexico". So if their finances aren't too hot as you mentioned, that would make sense.

That local plant is now making cookies in Mexico. Gotta read the labels since I live in SoCal, I never buy food products made in Mexico because we have a major drought issue and not much water is left for Mexico after California, Nevada and Arizona fight their claims to the Colorado River.
