To answer your question. Garm had no soul to begin with. Garm is the only known being that can live and function normally without a soul but it’s incredibly violent to everything. Because Atreus put Fenrir’s soul into Garms body, Fenrir took over.
this feels weird to say this here but also feels right. for most of my childhood i felt like i never had a strong relationship with my father. we didnt like the same stuff, he was always away with work and he was a bit of a hardass. is form of punishment would be straight to yelling and anger, but always a few miniutes later he would come back and abologize. it was really confusing as a kid and i feared that i would never be good enough for him. god of war changed that for me. i saw my father in kratos, his stature, his temper. everything felt like him. and when 2018 came out i saw a side of him i never saw before. a father who just wants his son to be better than him, he just didnt know how to do it because he was afraid of his own choices, afraid i would do the same so he would lash out when i did things that reminded him of himself. i now know my father is a good man and he gone through so much to change himself for the better, just like kratos in ragnorok. he had to talk his feelings out and we were finally able to communicate on the same level. he loves me and i love him, and either one of us would go to the ends of hell for another. and i have to thank Kratos, the god of war, for teaching me compassion, the importance of communication, and that even if my dad could be an asshole, he still the kindest man i know
I bawled when i got to the father son moment during my first playthrough. The acors performances and the insane skill of the animators immerse you so much into this moments that come out so earnest, full of meaning and very complex feelings. It is such a pleasure to relive these moments with you, thanks for sharing.
Watching you play this game again after playing it myself I’m noticing things that I didn’t my first time. Small details in the dialogue that at first listen meant nothing but truly meant more than I ever would have imagined. This game is a masterpiece!!
3 reasons why I always watch your vids these last few years 1: Love watching the pain and overcoming challenges in Soulslikes where you take on all main bosses solo. Props to you. 2: You're not afraid to give your opinion if the a game is not hitting for you. 3: Love listening to you talk about games.
Garm chapter is one of my favorite chapters in all video games. The boss fight, character design, and concluding many plot points all in one chapter is crazy.
@matiasgago the two wolves you saw on the painting in Odins study are Geri and Freki who accompanied him everywhere, along with his two ravens Huginn and Muninn
@@startusler I believe somebody stole Garm's soul to begin with. When a body loses soul as it dies, it loses it to the light of Alfheim. But when it is sucked out of its soul, it wanders without life like all the animals Gryla took the soul out of. Another theory is when the soul is stolen only some parts of the soul out of the 4 are sucked out. Like Brok who is missing direction, Garm might be missing something else.
@@AlexTheDominator1453 Tyr could have stole his soul. Maybe it could be what you said but God of War does and did rewrite mythological events to suit the story as per their accord. Still, appreciate the valid point from your side.
So, there's the Mask movie, with Jim Carrey. In the film it is said that the mask was created by the god Loki himself. And that's the inspiration for this game's mask, including the green energy it emanates. But obviously she doesn't have the same powers as in the movie, although that would be amazing.
This story is just too good but really simple at heart, at the end of the day it's a story about a father who has to make tough decisions and accept the fact that his son is growing up and is going to become his own person. And his son is growing up, wanting to discover himself, wanting to prove himself to his father. The game is about mythical monsters and gods fighting, but the story is human. Truly a work of art.
Such a beautiful, touching and perfectly crafted moment at the end. Mati if you haven't noticed, with "Draupnir's Siphon" you can absorb an opponent’s innate energy or element like frost or biftost, and grant its wielder enhanced resistance to said power. When said energy or element is absorbed from an enemy, it also removes their resistance to it. Also I think you missed a chest in Hell.
You joked early in this "Does every character get character development!?". Yes. Yes, they do! Some of the most incredible writing I've ever come across. Definitely the best character development I've seen. AND!!! You're not even done yet, man!!
@keisavourie Isn't the mask actually something to do with Loki? In the film the mask with Jim Carey the mask is called the mask of Loki, and it pretty much looks the same as the one in the game.
@@keisavourie I've always been confused about it too, it's like the one thing that doesn't have a real deal reference to the mythology, seems more just like a plot point thing to really hammer in Odin's character lol. Which I don't mind, but it is strange
I kinda love how Kratos not listening to his own advice is what bit him in the @ss throughout this whole game. The whole reason Atreus did every stupid thing and kept secrets was because Kratos didn’t tell Atreus about the prophecy of his death. Literally all of the family drama could’ve been avoided. Not that i want it to be avoided because it lead to great character development on both sides, bit still.
I totally agree with you; the story is my favorite part. That’s why I’ve played through 2018 and this one 4 times and I’m watching it for a fifth as I watch you. And those “moments” still get me.
Mati, the spear may not be good now, but once you unlocked the rising wind combo in the skill tree it becomes the best weapon in base game. It is better than old square2 triangle - it can be cancelled mid animation into a parry or side step dodge, and resumed thereafter. I can speak longer about this but im afraid tldr. Let me know if you want more explanation Edit: and the amulet - it will benefit you to use three enchantments of the same realm to unlock the unique perks
This. This part is my favorite from the game. While playing it I kept theorizing on what's going to happen next, but I never imagined this conversation between Kratos and Atreus would have happened at this point, and it was so, so good and well written. It is a tremendous example of subverting expectations in my opinion.
This will always be my favorite God of War, if for no other reason than because it gave me the words to finally reconcile with my grandparents. "We must be better."
Loved this boss battle! So many good ones in the game. It just keeps ramping up. And Fenrir is back! This was another really good section in the game. Can't wait for the next part! You know, one of the many reasons why I love this game and the story so much, especially in moments like the one near the end of this video, is that it feels earned. Kratos isn't the type to say sorry often, if at all. For him to have gotten to the point where he tells Atreus sorry, it would have to have meant a big deal. And it does. And you know how much it means when he says that because the story did such a good job of building Kratos's character ever since God of War 1. This moment. This conversation between Kratos and Atreus. It wouldn't have hit as hard without all of the story, character, and world building up to this moment. I genuinely feel like more Directors and writers should take notes from this on how to build a story. Moments like this don't work without us being invested. So many movies and shows out there these days just don't take the time to actually earn the audiences love and appreciation. Things just happen, and they happen too quickly. I just hope the God of War series they're working on keeps this same level of quality.
I check your channel everyday and everyday you have a little more subs than the last! Hope you make it big because you really have the potential and are my favourite gaming RU-vidr
Man, i love this game so much. I cried while playing it, and i cried now watching you play it. The moment where Fenrir comes back always gets me, and Atreus just running to hug Kratos wrecks me. This game is a fucking masterpiece, and i think you would have a great time going for the platinum! I loved doing that and I'm not even half as good as you are at games
About 2 weeks ago, yt recommended me the First part of your GOW 2018 playthrough and i absolutely loved it. So I went back and watched your playthroughs of all gow Games to this Point. And Boy you‘re up for one of the greatest Game Finale and experience. Can‘t wait to See it!
@@matiasgago that too but it's something that his wife said. and yeah best character arch in a game or otherwise imo. Some writers should take notice lmao😊😊
Hey Mati, have you ever thought of doing a series where you beat all the Souls games at level 1 or doing a series where you try to platinum all Souls games and the God of Wars?
No worries about the green screen I actually prefer no green screen seeing your environment makes you a bit more personable for whatever reason. I didn’t want to say anything bc you seemed so excited about getting it. Maybe center games/videos will benefit more from it in the future. It’s good to have in any case 👍
I prefer the spear. If 1 target I throw many spears on 1 target, detonate the spears and attack at the same time. Multiple targets I throw the spears evenly to all targets then detonate while charged to any different weapons to continue attacking while the spears almost finished exploding
A cool thing I noticed was after we see Kratos hitting the wall and we learn that is him trying to controlling his emotions, the next time we play with him we have a new controlled rage (wrath). Our guy has come so far!
There is a great Blades of Chaos combo attack that does a ton of damage that's not listed in the game. For ps5 its L1,L1 pause, Triangle then R1 or R2. If you do it right, you'll see a ring of fire around Kratos after hitting triangle.
A small thing to explain : garm didn’t have a soul to begin with that’s why he was chained in helheim and even tho kratos defeated him he didn’t die , then atreus came up with the plan of putting fenrir’s soul into garm ,,, since you’re in helheim it doesn’t matter how many enemies you defeat , even the ones turning to ash will return since the dead in helheim can’t go anywhere else
Hey bro, if you get the chance, go back to Vanaheim to get the Laser Beam Runic attack for your axe. You missed it earlier, and I think you'll love having it back in this game
1:38:18 i kid you not when i saw this first time i was stunned in fear, then when Harezvelgr started speaking, i froze in fear again cause i had the headphones in and i was siking myself up incase i needed to fight her here. she's still the scariest creatures in a game for me. bone chilling. despite, i wished she was a boss fight in the 2018.
What a treat are these back to back from Elden Ring to GOWR! I'd say we're feasting right now 🤩 Thanks, Mati! 🙏 Regarding green screen, IMHO I imagine it's a nice tool to have in your arsenal, but your background is indeed a cozy one and participates in creating this neat atmosphere. So, I'd say learn how to use better if you're personally interesting in this tech!
I. have. been. waiting. for. this. very. episode… and probably the next one as well. Feel like all kinds of motion woozing out of the screen right now…
