+Andrew Ager Bands like Faust are for us in the know. Most people like music, plastic music for plastic people. Let music like this be for us who knows better ;-)
To Tom This is Priceless. Krautrock is the name given to a genre of living German music. It's also the name of a 12 minute song created by Faust some years gone by, but still new and cool as ever. The big man played fine Drums. I thought he only played tangerine 🍊. You know I mean tambourine, right?
I saw the BBC Krautrock documentary on freeview the other night and just had to check Faust out after seeing the cement mixer interview. This has won me over.
Krautrock tends to feature a lot repetative, drone-like compositions like this. You won't hear very many verse-chorus-verse-chorus kinds of structures here. Listen to the albums Neu! - Neu!, Faust - IV, and Can - Tago Mago to get an idea of what it's all about. Either it'll grow on you, or you'll hate it forever.
... After 4 fantastic old Lps, Faust returns with a project not only "vintage", but also with some ideas. And they are good ideas and not "aligned" ideas.
@DrugStabbingTime I was in a moment like with a hudge musical appetite and you feel like you could enjoy anything and so you are thinking and looking for the perfect delicate taste to pour in your ears. and then I just saw I had a comment and it brought me here. and......yeah. yeah.
they built a box outside the box, then got out of both of them and cut my head open. this repetitive industrial sound with the flashing lights make my brain hurt, but somehow it enjoys the pain
It's not much to do with how 'good' a musician you are, it's what you make out of what you have. It doesn't have to be correct, it just has to be right. I'd much rather listen to this kind of exploring than some technoflash egowank million-notes-a-second playing, this says far more to me than that ever could.
Dylan Taylor I have most of Faust's music on CD and damn is it mindblowingly awesome. Been a fan of Krautrock for a long time now because of groups like Tortoise and Stereolab.
I must admit - when you have a band this wierd, this, bizarre, this avante garde, this frikkin' freaky - it really says something when the thing that stands out the most is the drummers nose :-o
@aiueoVVVeiimiiVVVsan - Faust doesn't need any critiquing that this stage. But I'm sure they would have appreciated the musical coaching from you, as I'm sure you're a musical genius who has made vast and profound contributions to the music world.
always do the trick, I believe that we (semi)germans kan do something out of the regulare box.. love the tune and disharmony that haves still a small kind of order! ;)
