It is obviously gonna sound immature cause they were a bunch of teenagers trying to sound evil. The vocalist/rhythm guitarist was like 19 and the drummer was 20 when this album was released but it is also extremely important to understand the context as well. Since you people are listening to music from albums like this for the first time in 2018 among a bunch of different artists from different regions and genres, it can really standardize the context and backgrounds of bands/genres making it boil down to just what you listen to and whether it sounds good to you. This album was extremely influential in inspiring death metal bands and important for a lot of extreme metal bands. This seemed really aggressive cause they were one of the few thrash bands that played at such an intense speed along with Sodom, razor and destruction whose positions were taken by bands like demolition hammer and other death/thrash bands. It is ok if you don't like it but atleast trying understanding where the music you listen comes from and the context. A blind reaction is great since it brings a lot of excitement to what you are listening to but you end up sacrificing the context and value of something. For example, I dislike van Halen but I I understand how important and influential they are for the genre. With that being said, I think It is a really messy song and sloppy since the drums are out of place at times and the solos are just haphazard and don't make any sense but kreator always knew to write some fantastic riffs even this early in their career which is the most important bit. They perfected the songwriting and riffs for a few of the albums to come in the future especially coma of souls and extreme aggression which are thrash metal masterpieces and 2 of the best albums in the genre. The musicianship became tighter and a lead guitarist with a better melodic sense likefrank godzik really helped them. They are much more melodic now and with the best lead guitarist they have had in years which will make you appreciate how much they have matured by giving another listen. Their brand of thrash metal German/Teutonic is as important as the American bands. As a personal opinion, I feel that you guys emphasize on the lyrics a bit too much though I really like your videos. It takes you away from the music and you end up missing nuances such as the rhythm guitars during the verses so please at least try to do one video that is only about the instruments and the way they sound rather than the lyrics. Discussing about that will really help in understanding songs that you don't like and will help in catching a few of the subtleties and nuances especially in the bass department or certain changes in the grooves or riffs. Just my two cents. Love your channel
What instrumental aspects!!?? It was a total rip off from early Metallica/ Exodus. Which black/death metal band drew inspiration from this POS song?? It's really funny when Vin tries hard to fake his (mis)understanding of shredding.
@@Forwhomthebelltolls24 nope it wasn't. you just want it to be a rip off. which black/death band drew inspiration? pretty much every band that ever existed in these subgenres.
Alleph da Costa I really wanna know what makes them so special? Lyrically most of their songs are juvenile (but I haven’t listened to everything), musically very generic thrash...Please don’t get me wrong, years ago some of my musician friends were really into Kreator, but I never could like them. May be I have bad taste as I don’t like Metallica that much too (except Kill em All and Ride the Lightning) Exodus is the only thrash band I still like and a very few Megadeth songs. Is 35 too old for metal?
@@Forwhomthebelltolls24 hi biswarup; ) its never a matter of age... young till we die ;) just different taste. I was into kreator as well from the beginning.. and love em. Besides, their latest stuff bores me somehow. Greets
@@Forwhomthebelltolls24 well, see them live once and you'll know why they are special. Regardless, just too many great songs, possibly more than any other band.
I’ve seen kreator live and there was nothing like it the pit was amazing and I think they’re special because they helped shape german thrash metal alot
when u guys do this one do also CARCASS - heartwork ...it has the same chorus as p"people of the lie"at least the rhythm is the same ...it will be a nice battle.
Finally some Kreator! Old school Thrash! Sabaton - To Hell and Back music video Celtic Frost - A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh Immolation - Father, You're Not A Father lyric video Steel Panther - Party Like Tomorrow Is The End of the World music video Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge
Not a song that I would choose to introduce Kreator, this one is a deep cut, but if you guys are still interested I usually recommend Violent Revolution as the song to listen to first. Btw that will be another song with a topic that will give Vin a lot to talk about.
The 'Pleasure to Kill' album is probably the most important european thrash metal release of them all. Sure, it is primitive, raw and chaotic, but that's the whole point! Vin got it.. ;)
Early Kreator like this is incredibly heavy, chaotic, brutal sounding thrash. Lyrically it's pretty immature obviously, they were just kids trying to be evil sounding and shit, but the music was massively influential. Their newest stuff is much more melodic sounding, not nearly as brutal, but it's still pretty good. Enemy of God would be a great pick for their newer style. Teutonic means German also. Other big German bands would be Sodom, and Destruction. Sodom just had a new EP actually, Partisan, and it's really fucking good.
Well lyrics are juvenile because they were 18 when they recorded it...... And composition of the song, riffs, transitions and solos are amazing on this song and this album, and to think that 18 year old kids did this is unbelieveable..... Also, this is one of the first proto-death metal album
Also, they have one of the best drummer in the world, and he also sings on some songs from first 3 albums, 3 of them are from this album, Pleasure to kill
German bands sounded more 1st wave black metal than the US scene ... In fact , listening thoses early records with Sodom and Destruction .. i never really understood why people put thrash stamp on it as it was much.more brutal
Endless Pain is my favorite album from them. German Thrash at its finest. Kreator, Destruction and Sodom shit all over the big 4 any day of the week, but opinions are opinions.
@@j2oaks Eh, I like Tankard but I never felt like there was ever a German big four, the idea just comes across as a bit forced because of their being a "big four" in America. I prefer to just think of Sodom, Kreator, and Destruction as the "three kings" of Teutonic thrash.
Tankard isn’t bad nor are they outstanding either. if i were to add a 4th German band it would be Living Death, as they were among the first from Germany. but i agree with the other dude, ‘The Three Kings’ Hail 🤘🏻
This song, like most 80's Kreator, has no "poppy" chorus or harmonies, which bands like Metallica and Anthrax utilized to reach a wider audience. This is raw speed and thrash and barked vocals.
You really should listen to some of their newer stuff for Sori. This is (obviously) a really old song. It's from their early, super aggressive phase. They were almost Death Thrash. But, they're like Melodic Thrash now. Phantom Antichrist is a really great recent album, you should try something from that.

Granted, they have zero official music videos or even lyric clips...yet-they reformed last year, are touring & playing stronger than ever, and just signed to Nuclear Blast for a new album in 2019. Also, and I hate to dredge it up but Exhorder-in no small part-is directly influential to what we all know and worship Pantera for...that distinct groove amongst the metal chaos. Phil Anselmo all but acknowledges it in an amazing 5- or 6-part documentary about the underground NOLA heavy music scene done by Noisey/Vice (that, just for a history lesson, y’all NEED to watch!). Again, begging, pleading, imploring-pleasepleasePLEASE PLEASE PLEASE check out Exhorder! They only have two albums currently, and one is called “Slaughter In The Vatican”-on that alone, I can’t believe you guys didn’t jump right in way back when I first started pimping ‘em. It was absolutely interesting whatching you guys with this one. My gosh you have to understand this song and this album in it's context and time. I can totally understand both sides, but this song is kickin. I have always loved it. However this album was my very first introduction into extreme metal/thrash ever. I thought it all sounded like this and almost said no way, but I pressed through and kept going. I had never heard anything like it and couldn't comprehend it, but from it grew to love all that I came to love back then and still today. As I look back this album is in my opinion the best album they ever did hands down. As very young musicians they pulled off something in this album, so brutal, so raw, so intense, so fast. It's an adrenaline rush. If you are a Kreator fan you will hear how much different their sound is in every other album. This was a very unique release. Musically and artistically and to be only their 2nd album I think they nailed it. Yes a little crazy, twisted and all over and extremely fast, but that's what makes it so good. I am not a musician, but what else can I say. I think this song is just 1 of all the songs on this album that put Kreator on the map. RAW UNADULTERATED EXTREEM POWER, AGRESSION AND SPEED! AHHHHHHH I LOVE IT!
I got to have a beer with them backstage when I was 17. A friend from back then got me in because her cousin is married to the rhythm guitarist. They are real good people.
I would not compare those two bands...they are way different and KREATOR much more aggressive and heavier than SLAYER to my opinion. A seal from German Thrash...more aggressive than the Thrash from the States.
The reason the rhythm and lyrics are so simple is because this was the mid 80's and Mille the vocalist plays guitar at the same time, which ain't easy at that speed!
Wait, Sori doesn't like "Peace Sells"!!!! That's a masterpiece. As for Kreator, just because Sori doesn't understand what's going on doesn't make it juvenile... quite the opposite frankly, this is a highly complex song, and many might say a part of death metal's birth
I am not surprised that Sori didn't like this, speaking of juvenile, the founder of the band and main songwriter Mille Petrozza was 17 years old when he wrote this song and only 18 when the album was released. This album is very raw and very influential moving the thrash movement forward back in the glory days.
Oh c'mon Sori ! What ??!! Haha as you liked Four Horseman and Venom I thought you would like this one. But no problem Kreator is a legendary German thrash band ! Pleasure to Kill is an amazing record, their first 3 records were heavy and fast as hell. Their stuff from 2004 until today are VERY more melodic, but really really good. Consider to give these guys a second chance and try to listen to Enemy of God or Totalitarian Terror, both are amazing songs but very different from this stuff.
First two Kreator album are landmarks in the Thrash Genre. But like Death and Black as well, not every metalgenre is for everyone. From time to time i listen to old school Thrash but i prefer Black. It's also interresting that you can hear the Black Metal influence on the first Kreator Album as well. Back when all was still mixed up. You really should listen to Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales, Celtic Frost was THE band in the 80s, who rushed borders into the more extreme and atmospheric.
Undoubtedly they should listen to songs from Extreme Agresions / Coma Of Souls to understand the quality of this extraordinary band (Extreme Agresions / Betrayer / Fatal Energy / Coma Of Souls / People Of The Lie / World Beyond / Agents Of Brutality). Or without doubt his post-Violent Revolution works are much more melodic but very aggressive and of high quality (Violent Revolution, Enemy Of God, Voices Of The Death, Hordes Of Chaos, Warcurse, Phantom Antichrist, and many more)
That song was written when thrash was all about shocking people, in the early 80's, it's also sang by the drummer, who sang on some songs in the first few albums. So it's not as representative of Kreator lyrically. Although musically it is amazingly brutal. Have her listen to later Kreator, the first 2 albums can only be understood by people who were teens when they first heard it, they had bad english lyrics like a lot of the early thrash metal records from Germany. Songs from Extreme Aggression, Coma Of Souls and Enemy Of God would likely make her enjoy Kreator, see how extremely talented they are.
German and Scandinavian bands in general played faster and heavier than American bands during the 1980's when it came to thrash and death metal. If you want really good proof of this, listen to some Sodom, they're from Germany,Agent Orange and Tapping The Vein are recommended.
Oh my...we're going WAY back for this one. This is their 2nd album from 1986. Very raw sounding. Many hardcore fans prefer these early albums, but I prefer their 2000+ releases. But I was a fan since 1988 or so. Their 90s stuff got a bit Industrial sounding and Experimental, and didn't sit too well with older fans. But their 2001 release got them back to their roots but with a more modern sound.
saw Kreator in a small bar in Fort Collins, CO in the early 90s or so...can't remember. It had one of those small pits that didn't go in a circle. Well, this was the 1st and only time I got knocked out. Not sure if I hit someone's head or elbow. I woke up with them dragging me out of the pit. Metal heads are awesome. Love this band!
I got to see them on a small stage about 8-9 yrs ago. It was epic. Up close, stage at my thigh, moshing, and having a good time. One of my favorite shows I've been too.
If you ever revisit Kreator, might I suggest Betrayer? It's got cleaner production, it's a bit more concise musically and their lyrics are a bit less nonsensical than this track.
kreator - united in hate absolutely recommend this song. I didnt like kreator at first either, but after listening to this song i gave them another chance. (: love your discussions!
Sentenced - Excuse Me While I Kill Myself Sentenced - The Luxury Of A Grave Sentenced - Let Go (The Last Chapter) Sentenced - Mourn Sentenced - The Way I Wanna Go Sentenced - Nepenthe Sentenced - Love & Death Sentenced - Keep My Grave Open Sentenced - Descending Curtain Of Death Sentenced - Desert By Night Sentenced - Warrior Of Life Sentenced - I'll Throw The First Rock Sentenced - Home In Despair Sentenced - Fragile Sentenced - No More Beating As One Sentenced - The River Sentenced - No One There Sentenced - We Are But Falling Leaves Sentenced - Her Last 5 Minutes Sentenced - Farewell
Pleaseure To Kill is one of the most influential metal albums ever (some might like Extreme Agression a bit more), 1986 was an awsome year that helped define what would later become Death and Black (Reign In Blood, Darkness Descend, Obssessed By Cruelty, etc), those solos, those drum beats, wou could headbang until your head explode... Now that listen to the last song on that album you should check out the first song, both the intro "Choir Of The Damned" and "Ripping Corpse". Please react to "Nothing Is Not" by Morbid Angel and "In Their Darkened Shrines" by Nile.
1986 was a good year for thrash metal: Kreator - Pleasure to kill Slayer - Reign in blood Dark Angel - Darkness descends Destruction - Eternal devastation Metallica - Master of puppets Megadeth - Peace sells :-) Tankard - Zombie attack Exumer - Possessed by fire and the list goes on....
I don't think that they want to *Sangreal* of *Septic Flesh* . Some day i'll open a Great RU-vid channel without *tipic shit like* : "Memetallica/Poserallica" , "AB/DC" , "Bring me the aids" , "Bullet for my bury" , "Avenged sevensicks" , "Jinjer (Piesces ofc) " , "Pantera (i like it) but too much reacts" , "Thy art is not to be modern shit metal" , "Ozzy Osbeatedbybat" , "Trivium" , "Iron Maiden" ... -The problem is that i barely know english. But somedaya, somedaya... -People should open RU-vid react channels without all that shit, but *they just want to be more famous doing famous bands* , only.
Vin needs to listen a lot more thrash to distinguish between a good and bad song. If you really want to know thrash start with Exodus- Bonded By Blood, that album is pure magic.
One of my favorite German thrash band right there. There's another good Kreator songs : Coma of souls, Betrayal, People of the lies!!! Great stuff there😈
Kreator had grown and gotten more solid musically as they matured in age. Check out Terrible Certainty Extreme Aggression Coma Of Souls albums. Enemy Of God too.
Classic German thrash, heavily influenced by Venom, Hellhammer, Motorhead and Slayer. Kreator are one of the "Big Three" of German Thrash, along with Destruction (see "Bestial Invasion") and Sodom (see "Nuclear Winter"). The early bands especially were way less clean and melodic than American thrash and more into evil as opposed to political themes.
We need the full reaction/review of King Diamond’s Abigail album, right? Now that you’ve heard one song off ”Abigail”, you’ll want to get the whole story 😉 I know you’ll gonna like it. ”The birth of Abigail would soon be realized. The second coming of a devil in disguise”...
Vin, thx for recognizing the musicianship, which is what differentiates Kreator from Slayer, and other thrash bands, indeed. This particular album is more death metal than thrash, though. They moved towards thrash with the 1 that follows and never looked back. 'Some pain will last' might likely be closer to Sori's liking, then.. to those who call it sloppy, I'm afraid they don't know what thrash is, or its history....
Overkill- Elimination, Time to Kill. Anthrax- Keep it in the Family, I'm the Man. Ghost- Stand by Him, Mummy Dust, If you have Ghosts. Rainbow- Kill The King
Epic song, epic album and epic band! I could tell Sori didn't like it, but I loved Vin's reaction to the solo. Brutal Teutonic thrash. Yes, it's juvenile because they were young (see also Exodus' first album). And yes, they are German so English is not their first language. Check the album before it, Endless Pain, it's basically proto-black metal. For Kreator that Sori might like, check out Satan is Real. It's from two years ago and they are much more matured in their playing.
Great discussion!! By the way... “666” does not exist in ancient text. It’s a flawed translational generalization that implies a numerological assumption. Not so in the biblical writings. It’s only found in modern translations of scripture.
It's actually not surprising at all that she doesn't like it. It is really rugged and you have to be in the mood to "break stuff" to get into them. I love Kreator, but this album is probably the hardest listen although super popular among the fans. LOVE under the guillottine. You should try a classic like betrayer or any song from enemy of god. Damn, they have so many great songs.. 40-50?
A classic example of a band who needs a second go to experience their maturing process. *Enemy of God* (2005) would be a great choice (a lyrical pointer: that is a political song, not necessarily a religious one). I'd also love to see a reaction to *Hail to the Hordes* , which is a great example for a very positive Metal song.
Sometimes you choose the weirdest picks. You should come back with their 2000s stuff, much more polished and lyrically mature. Enemy of God, Totalitarian Terror, Replicas of Life, Hordes of Chaos. You pick.
Nice to see you guys finally got to Kreator, their early work (mainly Endless Pain and the album this song is off, Pleasure to Kill) is some of the best thrash metal has to offer if you're into the more brutal end of things. Glad you got some enjoyment out of them Vin, but not shocked to see Sori wasn't into it.
@@bschuler6216 Yeah I don't think she likes this kind of extreme metal i.e. very fast and chaotic. But to be fair to her, I think most people who are quite new to this kind of music probably wont like Kreator on their first listen. Maybe she'll grow to appreciate it, maybe not, we'll see. Also all of those bands are awesome, good taste. I've always had a soft spot for brutal thrash and death/thrash.
This is what my cousin would call - Das Ist Deutsch. ( i.e German/Teutonic ) Sori's reaction is priceless though, Reminds me of when I first heard the more extreme side of Metal, if you are not used to the heavier side of things it can be off putting especially vocally. But Vin is right, English is not their native language and this song is off one of their earlier albums. They sound completely different now, better produced, not so chaotic and more streamlined with better lyrics and much more melodic. I think just like some of the other bands that you reviewed for the first time Kreator is one of those bands whose more recent output needs to be listened to to get a better picture.
