So a creature with Defender cannot be declared as an attacker, but Illhargs ability being able to override that is absolute bananas and I love it. I'm surprised that is not talked about more

Yeah since it is never declared it dodges it. Kaalia and a few other effects do this as well. It's just hard to find cards that make it worth it, Golden Guardian could have gotten out of hand if the game went longer.

I just built a Firesong and Sunspeaker deck and I'm finding that red burn spells - in particular X-cost ones - are tons of fun. With FSSS it even means I can take a lot of damage and gain back that life! It's brilliant.

purphoros is my fav commander coming out this year! Sneak Attack is always potent and the deck can go a couple of interesting directions I personally built an awesome dragon tribal deck around him (also considered golems) Cant recommend it enough very powerful but still super fun extra style points for having an indestructable god commander naturally ;p

Should not Ilharg have survived the confluence? It should only have dealt 4 to each creature and Ilharg is a 6/6

Yeah, either something got missed in the narration or we all messed up. I remember the confluence being a board wipe... maybe we talked about doing it for 6 but she changed her mind and we all forgot Ilharg should have lived.

That’s weird. She did target the Ashnod’s Altar with the 3rd mode and it stayed in the GY. Maybe she announced that the Fire Servant was going to double each of the first modes and Ced assumed it was enough to kill Illharg? Could have made a difference depending on what the card underneath was.

wouldn't Neheb have died to earthquake where x=11 and his toughness would have been 8 with the sword? The sword would not have offered protection from a global.

How come you chose not to auto equip the staff to krenko when he came down? Was there a reason to it or just forgot on accident?

Thornbite Staff can't auto equip to Krenko. It will attach itself to a warrior. He would have needed to sac even more stuff just to set up.

If Erik used Ishai instead of Ravos I think the deck could be a lot deadlier because there are a lot of great azorius cards that buff tokens like Aven Wind Guide and Annointed Procession. Just a friendly suggestion.

I'm not sure I gain much. I lose the ability to recur bloodrush creatures. Also Ravos passively bumps up the tokens and Tana which is nice. I also lose almost all my removal. It can replaced but blue adds little to the deck. With this color combo I have all the token doublers but didn't need them over more consistent token creation. Great azorious cards might make the deck higher powered, but I haven't found them increasing the fun the deck has or the current gameplan. Even with UW over WB I don think stuff like Aven Wind Guide is better than Archetype of Imagination. I could run both, but Archetype of Finality makes my defenses a lot scarier and my critters even harder to block. I run into many flyers so flying tokens aren't really evasive for me.

Also I think Sorin, Lord lf Innistrad would be good for your deck too. Its got token making, buffs your tokens, and has a great ultimate if you can get it there. Your deck looks fun to pilot btw.

The fire servant double the instant and sorcery damage so Tana took 4.

How did Illharg die from the Fiery Confluence? Even with the double damage from Fire Servant just 2 modes wasn’t enough. She couldn’t have destroyed the Ashnod’s Altar. So the card below Illharg could have changed the game.

I think the group discussed the confluence being a board wipe and we just messed up. Or we mis-remembered the card and thought it was dealing 8 to everything. A lot happens in games.

Protection from the sword

@@Xander44s Protection stops damage from sources of the named color. Red wipes tend to remove things through damage.
