Kristofferson's appearance in director John Sayles' film Lone Star (1996) marked a turning point in his film career. Taking a supporting role as a corrupt sheriff, the 60-year-old actor displayed a flair for character parts and villains that vastly increased his offers from Hollywood in the late '90s and led to his appearances in such major-studio action features as Fire Down Below, Blade, and Payback. He also earned admiring critical notices as a James Jones-like novelist in A Soldier's Daughter Never Cries and in another Sayles film, Limbo. By the turn of the century, complaining that he hadn't had time to tour as a singer in years, Kristofferson was looking forward to additional film work.
Although his early work was frequently repackaged and released in new compilation packages, Kristofferson released very little new work as the 21st century dawned. A live set, Broken Freedom Song, appeared in 2003 on John Prine's Oh Boy Records, and another Don Was-produced album, This Old Road, saw the light of day in 2006 on New West Records.

Bohemia Afterdark launched on TVs in 1982 and operated in Phoenix, AZ, but early history is unknown until 1990 when they moved to Portland, Oregon. In 1992 they began airing on KPDX Portland and then they move to KWBP in 1994. In 1995 they began airing on 22 Network One affiliates. In 1997 Network One shut down and the service moved to KOIN and in 2001, the service moved back to Phoenix, airing on KASW, then in 2002, moved to KPHO-TV. In 2003 they got their own station, KPHE-LP, at the time broadcasting on channel 19 in Mesa, Arizona, and changed their name to Bohemia Visual Music. KPHE moved to channel 44 in Phoenix in 2005.[2] Bohemia Visual Music changed their name to 24-7 Videos for a few months from mid-2005 to early-2006, then reverted to Bohemia Visual Music.

He and his beautiful poetry, set to music, is still as wonderful today as it was in the early 70's. I feel sorry for those who think he can't sing and haven't experienced his gift. I don't think he will ever be appreciated as much as he so (humbly) deserves. A truly beautiful man - inside and out. Thanks for all the good memories, Kris.

Phyllis Carmichael you are so right he doesn't sing like an angel but he writes was his heart and I'd rather hear him sing his songs then the people that sing like angels but what are we going to do when he's gone and Willie's Gone there ain't many left and even I mean Keith Richards he does good country with a lot of good country artists but he's a Rolling Stone wow music has no boundaries colors or derrieres accept what people make them to be. except for today's and I haven't heard anything new I like

I wish I could stop time...sitting here with tears in my eyes reminiscent of days gone by...lost soo many greats and not looking forward to the inevitable day Kris takes his leave of this meager existence. Pure genius was this man with his words. I am so thankful to have seen him live. I selfishly wish he lives to be 100 and writes and sings right til the end.

When Kris goes home to Johnny a big part of music will lose its shine... My dad used to play Kris music back in the 70's, and I used to wonder why. Now I'm the age my dad was then, and I get chills listening to Kris. I like to think I know why my dad played Kris so much all those years ago.

Thank you to my very first girlfiend, Judi for introducing me to Kris' music back in 1978. I have been in her debt ever since. What a gift to give to someone you care about. To Kris, I can only hope that we meet in person one day so I can thank you for your music. To touch someones life the way you both have is a great thing. Thank you Judi & Kris. Lance

RavensHalo...I had the priviledge to meet Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson at Stanford Univ in about 1980...and both men were all I hoped they woud be, considerate, kind, soft-spoken and so giving after doing a 3 hour long concert. I had maybe 3 minutes total with them and yet I will never forget the moment. You never know, maybe your dreams will not be so empty.

Born June 22, 1936, Kris Kristofferson started by selling his songs to singers Roger Miller and Johnny Cash. His own second album (1971) was a hit, with songs like "Help Me Make It Through The Night" and "Me and Bobby McGee." He then turned to film acting with starring roles in more than 50 films, inlcuding Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974) and A Star Is Born (1976)
@biggestkkfan1506
@biggestkkfan1506 10 лет назад
I'd like to add, though he turned to film acting, he's never stopped writing really great songs... His latest three albums are masterpieces, but all his 1970s and 1980s albums were great too and so were his two 1990s albums and I don't wanna miss any of them. I do love every song of him. He has played in more than 100 movies, but this includes some tiny parts as well. Btw, Me and Bobby McGee actually was a re-edition of his first album "Kristofferson" just with another title...

That is what's wrong with music today, everybody's so focused on the glamorized singing that is overloaded with studio effects that they don't even recognize what good music is when it's sitting right in front of them..kris kristofferson is a legend who didn't have to put on a show with his voice to get people's attention, he did it his own way writing his music and singing them how he wanted to, that is music, raw and untouched

adsmit1985, It is revolutionary what the internet has allowed for America. All the old people with their old fashioned ways were young once. Kris was an All-American, Officer in the Army, and I know wouldn't appreciate the blind hate and disaffection the old folks may have for the "new" Americans. The feelings and emotions a man has transcend time. Keep on keeping on and don't let anybody step on your heart. Nothing changes, ever.

So, if the Good Lord allows it I'll turn 50 this year. I can honestly say it has been one helluva ride. I could go on and on but I'll just challenge myself to learn to play and sing this on my B-Day. If it don't work out I'll still sing it in my dreams. Thank you Kris for all of the but most especially this one.

Can't get this out of my head...What a songwriter. Rare is the one that can paint a picture with words and music. Perhaps for the younger crowd it will make sense in the years yet to come but for today I will take another pull and reflect on what was, what was lost, what is yet to come and what will never be.

I am a singersongwriter and just because im 23 dosent mean I dont understand the world. my heros are cash, nelson, van zandt, dylan, to me writing a song is about expressing a feeling or an Idea. to many young men have died for old mans profit and its gone on for a long time. my heros saw and understood the pain in the world and there songs express that all i can hope is that mine do the same.

Well, clearly what we have here is a difference in taste. It takes considerable talent to sing as strongly, as clearly, and as WELL as Mr. Kristofferson (I don't have the talent, and I doubt you do, seeing as you have spent a good amount of time engaging in flame wars on RU-vid instead of being talented), but some people still prefer other sorts of music. I can respect that.

A living legend. Sadly, I just start listening to him (at 38). My mom would'a been a groupie if my pop didn't make her come home after his shows. She saw him a whole buncha times & ending up going backstage. When I was a tot, she told me that she would leave my father him. Ha ha... but true. I knew he wrote "Me & Bobbie McGee", but I've just recently discovered "Sunday Morning Coming Down", "To Beat the Devil", etc. It is sad to see him age, but he's packed a whole lot of living in' already!

We are only here for a little while. We were strong and assured in our youth, but what we have gained in wisdom can only be obtained by putting in the time. Though this body we inhabit becomes weathered and worn, and our souls bear the scars of a sometimes callous and crooked world, yet Eternity beckons us all. Therefore, live this life with a kind and gentle bearing, knowing that we only get so many heartbeats and steps.
